The low voltage battery (12v) in my Tesla failed last week. Got in car and it said to schedule service to replace it. It had not failed completely, obviously. So I hopped on the Tesla app on my phone and set up an appointment. They came to my home and replaced the battery. Charged me a buck twenty. I am pretty happy with that.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/heres-a-million-mi le-tesla-model-s-owners-advice-for-ev-reliability/

$120 sounds high, except I've replaced batteries, (12 volt old style ) in my Caravan and lawn mower for about the same, so that's actually decent for a house call. Inflation.

I tend to run a quarter million miles in a car before it breaks from rust. The previous Caravan had the floor under the driver's seat collapse, the current one has the rear AC lines and the steel around the wheel well in disintegration mode.

We'll see how throwing $1200+ at "rust proofing" works on the Toyota, but the Caravan is slated as a donation/tax break and to be replaced next summer. ( I won't sell a rusted out car, liabilities too high, but the charities are setup to pull a profit off one by parting them out )

Volvo owners are typical high miles driven loons. Road warrior types, long distance commuters, and cross continent adventures types take extra care to get into the Million mile club.

What I really want is a van body on a Toyota Hilux third world "technical" to haul my stuff, but they don't sell them here. Combination of People's Republic of Kali pollution exploitation rules and perceived demand.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2023/12/i f_global_warmists_are_going_to_panic_about_somethi ng.html

A company like Tesla, selling premium cars and charging stations to fit them, was, & still is, competing with the other car makers for standards. What the plug will fit, and the software that allows charging without starting catastrophic fires.

By offering a product that is actually available, as opposed to the Billion$ spent on ??? ( I assume the offshore bank accounts of the rich guys that Bribed Biden* ) Tesla is becoming the standard by being functional.

Now, a battery swap system sounds great. You just need a car designed for it, battery swap stations, and viola! You've got either a short lived business failure, or a long term business failure since your one model car either will improve, making everything obsolete. Or freeze development, never to improve and becoming obsolete.

And if I was a Ford engineer, I wouldn't trust a GM battery to be safe in my E-Bronco easy swap edition. And especially I'd be sure my car refused to run on the Wuhan Institute of Bogus Battery packs. Product liability is a real challenge for your own battery not burning down the customer's house or dealership. One sold on EBay? Nope. All the nope.

Box of rocks? Darn, good thinking! it's more complex, you need to hack the onboard computer in the battery pack, but in a world of Information systems, that's inevitable. Strip out all but just enough cells to give the right voltage, and speedy Grand Theft Battery.

Recall is a pretty strong word for an over the air update that will make the car nag you harder than it already does.

A Tesla on autopilot is demonstrably safer than when it is being driven by a human. That does not relieve the driver of the responsibility of maintaining control of the vehicle, but it should give regulators pause when they make these sorts of decisions.

The article also conflates Autopilot with Full Self Driving. These two things are not the same, and this more nagging required update has zero to do with their development of level 5 autonomy.

The Tesla update/recall of software for an experimental autopilot system has spawned many different headlines, few with much connection to reality, as you'd expect from Russian Media. Or, in this case, the utter lack of real journalism in Democratic Socialist party media cheerleaders.

Gell- Mann amnesia!

I picked a fairly neutral take that at least had some facts under the click bait.

Some people should avoid hallucinogenic drugs. I don't care what Joe Rogan thinks... They can be powerful treatment for various mental issues, lead to greater understanding, ( marriage therapy ) and might be perfect for some. But people are highly variable in drug reactions, and the phrase "set & setting" from the old LSD days really comes to mind here.

A grief stricken guy probably shouldn't do drugs to cope after a close friend's funeral. Just as baseline advice. Alcohol, methamphetamine and mushrooms especially seem a bad idea. Each may only amplify the existing emotional state. Pot or other drugs might dull the pain temporarily, but it's a short term non solution.

Unfortunately, you're not going to know how you react to a drug ahead of time. I've walked with people tripping in different circumstances, from fun hikes in the woods ( I can be easily amused ) to all night helping an involuntary dosed victim of a not funny prank. ( if I knew the perpetrator, I'd aid prosecution ) Ethics forbid details, but decades of voluntary first aid work has given me a perspective on human idiocy that a smarter guy could novelize.

And I followed the FAA & military credo of 8 hours bottle to throttle in my flying hobby. I never wanted slowed or altered reaction time, no matter if it's piloting an airplane or jumping out of one in competition. ( hangovers optional, ymmv )

This is a career ending incident that might not deserve jail time, but if the guy is one prone to flashbacks I don't want him in the cockpit next time I take a flying bus.

And I've joked for years that they lied about the flashbacks and I want my money back. But that's just a joke! I don't really want to suddenly not trust that the deer that jumps out in front of me is real. ( where I live, sometimes multiple times a day, and easily every week. Real deer. Seriously. I just looked, 4 in my back yard )
