I'm sure some folk at NASA predicted the obvious result of rocks bouncing off an asteroid when it got smacked with a probe, since stuff just sitting on the surface is held down with a very tiny amount of gravity. And it's very good to know that a tiny impact changes a ( metaphor, but accurate ) bullet flying through space into a "buck and ball" spread of rocks. In the Bruce Willis movie, because the rock was detected late and the technology to reach it far away isn't built yet, they had to blow up the big piece of the shotgun blast of the gods to prevent total destruction. The movie doesn't get into the additional "minor" impacts like it leads off with, but... My 2 concerns about kinetic doom are practical ( we need to build the infrastructure to put diverter rockets up early enough to nudge an asteroid aside in time ) and political. ( the government decides to conceal and deny onrushing Armageddon to prevent panic and hide they cut the funding to save the planet. Probably the greatest invention of this last few thousand years is sewer systems. This is fairly fringe stuff. But the date at which human habitation, above the hunter gatherer stage, just got pushed back nearly? 10,000? years by the discovery of multiple megalithic sites in Turkey. ( megalithic = big rocks moved to make a "temple" like Stonehenge, or housing like the Pueblo cliff dwellers ) btw, Archaeologists tend to lump everything they find that's not obviously an ax or comb into the category of "religious object". I assume so they don't seem stupid by using the more accurate phrase, BTFOM. Personally, I'm not a believer in psychic or alien powers building ancient human structures, because I've done simple easy things like help build trebuchets, using logs, ropes, and enthusiastic college students, plus Boy Scout rope bridges, and historical camping. The folk thousands of years ago weren't stupid, they just didn't have iPhones. Arguably, they were, on average, smarter, since without massive civilization, and the excess wealth to protect the stupid, natural selection was still in play. ( while the old, wise, folk did get some protection, so they could teach skills to the young. ) My suggestion is to be skeptical, but there's some probable truths here. It's absolutely true that the Science Establishment, especially in people studies, are rigid dogmatic defenders of the status quo. That doesn't mean that every crackpot notion is a Forbidden Truth the Establishment ignores & denies. I'd guess only a tiny fraction of one percent fit that notion. In answer to your intelligent question, yes. I'm considering organizing a steam roller race for "oil protesters" to glue themselves in front of. Oh, not to crush them under weighted steel rollers! Just get them immobilized so they can be left there while the crowds laugh and then attend, or avoid, a 24 hour K-pop marathon on the stadium grounds. Better yet, a Grand Demolition Derby fake out to draw in the ego-glue showoffs, which would actually be a country music charity concert for the victims of tyranny. Better than waterboarding.  Alternatively I've got ideas involving Roller Derby. A close friend is an avid player. In ancient castles, there's often a dual purpose open area behind the first gate & wall. In peace time, it's a marketplace and safe space for entertainment and public life. In war, it's a killing ground that invaders pour into after breaching the gate, where the defenders can shoot and throw various destruction on the most aggressive enemies. Just thinking aloud...
