Lots of ignorance in the comment section.

Don’t want one? Don’t buy one. Too bad that won’t be possible for some folks soon. But then, they’re getting what they voted for. I’m all out of sympathy for self-inflicted wounds.

Funny, I didn't vote for them. So I should suffer because others are cucks for the WEF?

I get that I have to live with the half of people that are below average.

I don't get how I have to quietly get in the cattle car.

Hoot, $%&# the bozos that knock electric cars for political reasons.

I've got a short list of practical, real reasons converting to electric cars have real problems.

Pollution from sourcing materials from poor countries run by evil rich guys. Also a problem with oil.

The absolute requirement to increase power production and fortify the grid so you can charge cars without blackouts and rationing. Something that needs to be done even without E-vehicles in the mix, because that's the only way to retire the older legacy power plants.

But fires, quality control, etc. are normal issues with any learning curve on new technology, ...if it was flywheel power storage there'd be a whole litany of doomsayers. "It was a minor crash and the Toyota Top lost containment and carbon shards slaughtered 40 people in line to see Brokeback Mountain 2 !" ( with Margo Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence ; ) )

The fact that Joe's* script writers want to end fossil fuels and your freedom to ride a gasoline powered anything is a political problem, not because Teslas exist. My hybrid isn't the reason the richest men in the world at the WEF tell us we'll own nothing and like it.

Just for fun, search Orbital Skip Bomber.

Or Sanger Space Plane.

I've had many hours soaring a wing design once developed as a landing system for Gemini space capsules.

Historical perspective can be fun. Occasionally terrifying.

This article may be alarmist, but I am going to ask our daughter about her charger for her e-bike that she keeps in her (sprinklered) apartment.

Alarmist? Not completely.

I'd rant about Chinesium, that kills thousands a year. Concrete apartment buildings with crap, or no, rebar and concrete you can crumble with your bare hand.

And most E-bike stuff is Chinese, and QC? hah.

I've ranted before, Battery, gasoline, Hydrogen, antimatter, the higher the energy density, the more the risk. Lose containment on your 2 stroke gas can for your chainsaw, and a terrible fire can take place. ( gasoline soaked rags and wood can spontaneously catch fire )

ditto Lithium cells, the chemistry and risk varies, but toss a cheap unregulated charger on any of them, and it may overheat, leak, and burn. If you have poor quality control and bad choice in sourcing, an E-car can be a hazard too. GM? ( middle finger emoji here )

I was electric bike conversion kit shopping last night. Seriously. New bike, Want boost.

First, I chose a brand I know. That's not an option when you go to the local bike shop, or Walmart. You take the stuff they sell. And there's limited feedback on how truly cruddy they are. Most Youtube videos are glowing reports of the Latest Toy the distributer loaned for free to the reviewer. You have to seek out the guys who are able to test for a time to find the problems.

Second, since I'm DIY, the motor and battery are separate choices. I need compatible wiring and chips, so everything talks to each other, and it's a minefield. But There's also CHOICE. I can get the same plastic box with "2900" ( Chinese generic ) Panasonic, LG, and Samsung cells inside.

Each one, no matter the brand will slowly die and are good for a thousand charge cycles. Maybe a few more, or a few less. But they Will Die.

Will they catch fire? ( the generic, LG, Samsung, Panasonic cells are here listed from meh, to best. You pay for the better ones )

If I buy the better charger with automatic shut off? Probably not. If I buy the cheap charger, and use a separately purchased timer to shut it off after 2 hours? Probably not. If I buy the cheap charger, or buy a really generic cheaper charger, plug it in and ignore it for days? Darn good chance of a fire. Not 50/50, but better than 10-20%. probably.

Caveat Emptor. and educate yourself.

Meanwhile, the kid's e_scooter, "hoverboard" ( actually cheep Segway inspired balance board ) E-bike, all should be charged with the proper charger, and treated as the hazard they are with rational care. Don't leave them cooking.

Pay attention to your kid's toys.

Maybe put the charging stations out in a shed. ( you wanted a shed anyway to get the stuff out from underfoot, so try safety as an excuse to convince the SO to go for the expenditure. )

I'll point out I grew up in a different age.

The stuff I did would get my parents imprisoned today.

model rockets, flying stuff of all kinds, fireworks, riding bicycles dozens of miles far from supervision.

But my parents did insist I leave the nitromethane & alcohol in the garage, not under my bed. ( model airplanes )

I'll give them a pass on the hang gliding. : )
They thought it was a fad, and only saw the 15 feet altitude achieved in the neighborhood as moderately deadly. ( different age ) It was years before I made the mistake of asking Dad if he wanted to go flying with me, and he saw what I was really up to. ( Don't take your relatives to see you fly for the first time on an expert cliff launch site! )

Btw, the timer advice comes from the owner of a high end bicycle shop that sells multiple E-bike brands.

Good battery packs have circuitry that talks to the controller computer, so you can get a good read on battery power on your display. Cheaper ones just give you a voltage readout.

Even cheaper electric toys have no display and no computer monitoring. Think RC cars.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2 022/11/06/are-lithium-ion-batteries-safe-in-the-ho me-n1643204

Many bike shops won't work on electric bikes they didn't sell. They don't have the plans or manuals for the wiring, or the facilities to even charge proprietary battery packs safely.

Most of the complaining I've heard is about Wal-Mart E bikes. Customers didn't want to spend the $1800-2500 for a professionally built bike shop model and while anyone with a modicum of talent can build a bicycle from the box, doing it right takes a few proprietary tools, common bike spanners, ( which any shop in 1907 should have, but today you can only get from specialty makers, or Chinesium knock offs that will probably hurt you and not work good enough to be safe. And that's before you get to the electric parts )

Things change. I repacked front wheel bearings on my vans myself on a regular basis. Today it's part of an assembly and not especially serviceable, oh, and don't kink the ABS sensor wire!

Today's bicycle uses a different head set bearing system, needing specialized tools, ditto bottom brackets, and wheel hubs? Multiple types and sizes.

The bearings now are usually sealed disposable, and overall are nice and strong and need less ( but not zero ) maintenance.

But I went shopping for a suspension fork for my 1990s bike with a 1" stem. One choice, Rockshox, ( that's a good brand with lots of support, good ) and out of stock until they get a big enough order to do another production run. Maybe. Don't hold your breath.

That's all Mechanical stuff. Throw umpteen different brands with no standardized anything, ( even though built in the same factory ) not wiring plugs or computer protocols, and it's worse than taking your Buick to a Ferrari shop. At least one of the mechanics probably has his own OBDII reader and app on his phone. They can get parts at NAPA.

And if you love your "Zong Huo" brand E bike, and the company vanishes, so will parts, and a replacement charger? Controller?

And these things are wired like your car, but cheaper. It's not just juice to spin a motor, it's a data bus like a Canbus... But not any standard from one to another. Orphans are to be expected, treated as pro hacker challenges, or utter unfixable junk.

Anecdote.

Just this last week, I test rode a wonderful riding E-thing. ( trike ) The motor company got purchased by a Chinese company and has no support. A different customer had her battery of this brand ( and there are 3, incompatible generations ) die, and bought a replacement from the former Canadian distributor. Now the only source for parts, as long as they still have any. Battery didn't work. Customer sent it to the recommended by the Canadian company, U.S. company, that "rewired the chip" to make it work. It works fine now. When it dies, the shop will have to junk the whole rig, motor, battery, controller and cables, and fit/setup a new, different drive train.

The electric retrofit kit, I'm looking at buying is last year's model, has a USB port to reprogram it, and is discontinued. This year's model has all new proprietary cables, plugs, and hardware. Incompatible and not easily hackable.

Why do I want the old one? So I can change the settings. While I've seen video on loons cranking up the power to over 1500 watts to go faster, ( in software! ) I just want to disable/change the speed limits from a Euro-spec too slow. ( speed limited for a variety of legal jurisdictions. ) short form, I want 30 mph, not 25 kph.

Never thought I'd want to hack a bicycle. ( ok, with a saw, sure... )

World Elite suffer for your sins with caviar, imported lobster, cocktails, and luxury you will never be allowed near.

I especially liked the lovely ladies who spent more on clothes than I made in 2021.

Good news is I bought a bicycle to fight waistline change. Bad news is now bicycle tires cost more than the bicycle I bought in High School. With money slinging burgers. And those tires will be outlawed by these Elite.

They contain carbon.

So do you.

Which brings up...

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/11/why -climate-models-dont-work.php

I was checking out a European paraglider design which has been refined by Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling. Tracking imaginary packets of air past an imaginary wing. That's the easy part. We've got decades of measurements of air flowing around solid objects. We can model that pretty effectively in speed and pressure and Reynold's Number ranges that are in the small airplanes to airliner sizes.

But a paraglider isn't a solid object. It's cloth and strings and shaped by tension and the air it moves . High tech cloth & strings, sure. It changes shape with speed and angles.

So they put sensors on the strings and cloth to get actual data to plug into the program. Lots of them. And flew in the real world hundreds of hours to get fine enough detail to model accurately.

On a planetary climate model we have scattered, not random, 19th century accuracy, at best, sensors to feed into the model.

And a huge set of assumptions about the interaction of a ridiculous number of variables, from actual solar output to atmospheric chemistry at the edge of space to the spin rate of a molten iron core.

So far, I haven't seen one that can predict the last 10 years based on all the input from the last half century. Plus historical records.

Even Saint Greta noticed that the Global Elite are hypocritical posers. And says so!

I doubt she's reached that self awareness, about her own life, and she's got a lot of brainwashing to overcome to see the truth about her religion being the most evil murderous cult in human history, but one enlightenment at a time is more than most can hope for.

I just hope she doesn't get... Oh, say, lost hiking in Iran promoting plant based diets... Or fall off a yacht.

Good luck, Greta.
