Never heard of Bubonic plague?

And you obviously are pretending to be ignorant about viruses. The only competition is for food. You. This doesn't count the residents in your body, the "friendly" bacteria and viruses that are often symbiotic in nature. It's a little explored part of our biology, but we're learning.

News?

Remdesivir shown to be not useful to hospitalized patients.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GQOGYi-yuzk

Not a "scientific study" if you're selling the drug, or have a political agenda.

I'm skeptical. I was skeptical about Remdesivir, which iirc is a failed drug for it's original goal.

https://www.prevention.com/health/a32343505/remdes ivir-coronavirus-drug/

To clarify, apparently it didn't work on anything. Ebola, SARS, MARS... But those were "screw it, it's deadly, what can it hurt?" diseases where you try drugs that might be unsafe, and Covid-19 is treated that way too. A doctor could be sued if he gave you Remdesivir for a cold. It's not approved for that. He wouldn't get arrested, prescribing drugs for other than label use is fairly common. But he's open to a lawsuit for experimenting on you, if it made you worse.

I'ts not hard to get an experimental, not in production, drug. If the company ( an established firm with a sales force and distribution ) wanted docs to get it, it would get dropped off. I'd expect waivers and reporting "requirements" that today is just a password to patient's data base, and a few text messages. In the event of plague etc. the FDA encourages a streamlined process. And were so instructed by the President.

Anyhoo, while Remdesivir didn't seem to work, it does have an interesting concept behind it, and might be effective to change the curves ( viral load vs. Immune response vs. System runaway crash ) on patients.

Remember, HCQ was found ineffective in some studies if they start it after you're already hospital and respirator sick. It's still possible Rem-darn-I'm-tired-of-spelling-that could be helpful if started early.

But I'm skeptical, for multiple reasons and ways.

However, don't buy the MEDIA hype on this. It's panic attack crap, a lot of it. It's one study & reported by morons. Not Captain Trips! We're no more or less doomed by this.

I think it would be totally ironic if Covid-19 is a cure for the flu.

It's not.

But it's a cure for every other *diagnosis*.

Motorcycle accident? Log it as coronavirus death. Looks like COVID, but you never tested the patient for the virus? Log it anyway. Get your grant money. Old age? Call it corona, collect your grant money and hazard pay, and get your PPE allocations increased. Heart/lung disease, diabetes, cancer? Call it COVID, so your hospital can reap the benefits.

And keep those case counts climbing, because the populace isn't browbeaten enough yet, they still won't submit...we must continue the beatings until morale improves, or until the sheeple simply submit and do what they're told.

As for the freebeacon article? Case counts, case counts, case counts. Blah. Cases up...but how's the mortality rate?

Still dropping, from what I can see.

But...that won't make news, because it doesn't feed the fear.

To Court's question? According to

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html

Canada:
Cases - 196,928
Recovered - 166,313
Fatalities - 9781

US:
Cases - 8,062,236
Recovered - 3,197,539
Fatalities - 218,766

So yes, Canada is doing much better overall than the USA. But I think it is more due to their population density (or lack thereof), and their border policies, than to the all-powerful "socialized medicine". Medicine would only come into play...if there WAS medicine for this thing. People not-catching it in the first place? Most likely due to tighter border control, and people not living on top of each other like NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, etc. If the virus can't get in...it can't spread around.

Note: those Hopkins numbers don't compute to me. 8M US cases with 218k fatalities should have 7.8M recovered...not 3.2M. Ditto the Canada numbers. I find it hard to believe we have 4.6M active cases...but I guess we might.

On the other hand, we already know that something is rotten in Denmark, so...even Hopkins could be subject to the numbers-tampering by now.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/10/t he_chinese_virus__why_we_panicked_and_why_weve_got _to_end_the_panic_now.html

Court, IF New York & California & the rest had cut off airline traffic from China & Europe, where by December it was growing rapidly in numbers, then our numbers would never have grown as fast and as many. But the WHO and CDC ( who foolishly believed the WHO Chinese bootlickers ) were not ready to push the panic button until later... I figure mid February was both the earliest the CDC could have made that call, and already too late to prevent pandemic levels.

Maybe a smart guess by someone with the clout to buck the China bribed/loving politicians might have taken place by mid January, but doubt earlier. China was in full lie mode by then. I wouldn't doubt someone at USAMRIID wrote a memo with her analysis that China has a real crisis brewing in January. But it wasn't enough to crank up the Executive for it, yet. Might not even been considered for a National Security briefing.

By March? The Chinese New Year returning vacationing Chinese had already spread it world wide.

Yes, politicians had been told there was a potential disaster coming, by Feb. and a few mocked the idea and urged going to big tourist money making events. That the same people just days later blamed Trump for racist panic & then more days later blamed all Pooh's Breath cases on Trump, is simply that they are lying scum. Shouldn't be a surprise to watch the "projection tactic" accusing their enemies of sins they committed. It's the New Normal for the Left.

To repeat ad nauseam... Pooh's Breath is a deadly disease. We needed to react. Afaik the Feds didn't do too bad a job, even in retrospect. The States however, where the actual POWER to shut businesses and violate Constitutional rights during a health emergency was, had varied responses.

I'm biased against Governor Cuomo, but even so he screwed a lot of folk, unnecessarily. Gotta admit he had great script writing for his daily free campaign press conference.

I'm constantly amazed that some don't comprehend that you can be concerned about the disease, and still worry about rights.

But as we approach a full year since the "bat eating / biowar release" ( your guess ) it's becoming increasingly clear that some policy changes are needed. ( locking the Governors of certain states into their own nursing homes isn't likely, but one can dream )

so...where's the outrage for this?

https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2020-10-15/ biden-harris-coronavirus-travel

When our President announced he tested positive, all hell broke loose - "how could he?"; "see what happens when you don't wear a mask?"; "see what happens when you keep going out and holding rallies?"

Now...someone on the Almighty's staff tested positive - where's THAT outrage?

Better yet, where's the commentary that "yea, it's a VIRUS, it's going to go where it goes and your stupid paper masks that are never properly sealed to your face, don't do dick for keeping virus particles from entering your system".

But, I guess that's anti-narrative and it'll never get out.

Still, the speculation that a block on travel from China and Europe before Chinese New Year in Feb would have saved lives seems true. I'm not sure on if the CDC could have so advised that early.

If I pitched a Sci-fi tv show where the world is ruled with an iron fist using the excuse of a real plague to go authoritarian, "for the children", it'd be a hard sell. Not because it's too incredible, but because it's too mundane.

And the plot twist, that the plague had long run it's course ( which is not yet true of Covid-19 ) or was really only a bad cold hyped into an excuse, ( argue amongst yourselves ; ) ) lies hidden from the public by a State Owned Media, would be utterly rejected as Hate Speech by the Media I would be trying to sell to.

Maybe if the hero is a transgender & Blame the Conspiracy on White cisgender males... Or Jews. That always sells well to leftists.

Good call on actually doing the math. I guess I'm guilty of what I'm sick of the MSM doing - focusing on case counts instead of the actual threat rate to people.

ALL THREE OF THEM RECOVERED EASILY FROM IT.

One of them is 91 year old cancer survivor.

OK... I now know three people directly who have had the Wuhan Virus.

Which goes to demonstrate "infection rate". We all know hundreds, if not thousands, of people in this world...knowing 3 people personally? That would be...what... a .3% infection rate, if you know 1000 people? Even if you only know 100 people ("closely" or "personally"), that's still a 3% rate.

Hardly society-killing.

Personally? I know four directly, two of whom have spouses who were also positive and who I have never met. So, even if I count all six people as "acquaintences", that puts me around a .6% infection rate.

I know a LOT of people. I'm not going by "close" friends, but by people I have direct contact with. I work with the public every day for my day job, and my side gig (live audio) brings me in contact with SCORES more people. Granted I'm not doing gigs these days, but those people are still in my pool of "people I know"...

ONE person out of the six, shows symptoms. She is mid-50s, with heart, thyroid, and blood pressure history. She says it is "like a bad flu" - tired, irritated, upset stomach, headaches. Her 19 year old got tested just out of proximity. Positive, with zero symptoms (and it didn't even slow her down - soccer, softball, dance, and cross-country athlete). All the others - age-contemporary, 30s through 50s - described "a couple days with goofy taste and smell", and a couple headaches.

All have recovered.

Yeah...this is the end of the world, alright...

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/10/cuomo _all_ny_covid19_deaths_are_trumps_fault.html

End? Heck no! It's a "never let a crisis go to waste" opportunities extravaganza! The Black Friday of tyranny! The Best Excuse For Anything!

Medically, not politically, the Wuhan Super Cold ( not influenza ) seems to be 25-50% worse, than the last bad flu in 2017. That's 25-50% more people died, so far.

I suspect that the total death cost of Pooh's Breath in the U.S. would have been about the same no matter the response and mask use, OVER A LONG...YEAR PLUS...TIME FRAME. In other words we flattened the curve but didn't change the totals. Why would delaying payment make it cheaper?

Eventually, everyone will be vaccinated, have acquired immunity from getting Covid-19 and recovering, die, or, after months of vaccinations and over a year of plague, be protected by herd immunity. Then there will just be outbreaks, breathlessly hyped, for a few years.

The only real difference between "bold action" ( Trump 2020) and "ignore bad news to avoid being associated with it" ( Obama 2017 ) is the time to get a vaccine in production and distribution, and the overall time anyone bothers to make diseases news stories. You can argue, but not really prove, that a few thousand might not have died if Barry had ordered the FDA to fast track, aka relax testing requirements, aka accept risk for speed, a vaccine for a really nasty flu that would burn out no matter what he did. Trump has so ordered. Months ago.

I think it's a mixed bag to Fast Track a vaccine. TANSTAAFL

Higher risk of bad reactions with less testing vs. Fewer deaths from the disease.

Remember the Swine flu vaccine debacle of 1976?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2020/05/01/ vaccine-swine-flu-coronavirus/

A Marine buddy got really sick from the vaccine, and recovered. A LOT of the U.S. military got mass vaccinated and got mass ill. While a big freaking real at the time, today that's just mentioned by conspiracy nuts and in disease control arguments. ; )

Just to jog your memory of ancient history.

we flattened the curve but didn't change the totals.

That's the key right there.

These school districts, with their "zero infections in 14 days" goals...are morons. You simply canNOT hit a zero mark with a virus. Period.

And, the MSM, and the Left, have completely forgotten (or are actively misleading the sheeple - you choose) that "flatten the curve" meant SLOW DOWN the spread...not eliminate it. But I guess that destroys the narrative so...

Exactly, and that was the point.

NOT, as the MSM would have us believe now, to STOP the virus...but to simply REGULATE the number of cases to a manageable rate and keep caretakers from being overwhelmed.

When I was a first grader, we all got smallpox vaccinations, a dime-sized scar on our deltoid.

I went into the Navy, August 1976. One of the many shots/inoculations we got was the experimental swine flu vaccine.
Very similar to the old smallpox vaccination, several guys in my company had very bad reactions with the vaccination site getting infected.

I’ll be ready for a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as the trials finish.
