Appropos to nothing in particular... Back when Nelson Rockefeller was Governor of New York, the geniuses in Albany passed a Drug Crime Bill that put the penalty for possession of over an ounce of narcotics higher than murder. I was taking a law class at the time, and we discussed the new law in detail. Our conclusion was that police were endangered by the law. If you are a criminal, and there's basically no difference in results between getting busted with a pocket full of drugs, and busted for murdering a cop, then you'd go for the option that offered the best possible outcome, i.e. You might get away with no jail time at all, if you shot your way out of the bust. Sure, we assumed utter lack of morality and concern for life, as well as horrible judgment skills. But we were discussing heroin dealers. We actually frightened the teacher. Not sure if it was the cynicism or bloodthirsty attitude but he got fairly upset with us. Then, over the next year, the murder rate for police officers in New York went up, iirc, >400%. Just a history lesson probably unrelated to this thread. | ||

He should take it one step further - any official locale (city, county, whatever) that officially endorses "defund the police", or BLM...shall be federally de-funded. No assistance. Period. Roads. Regarding the criticism of police throwing black men to the ground, look at how these officers stopped this white dad from attacking Larry Nassar, the gymnastics team doctor who will be let out of prison in 2069. While police shoot whites in higher numbers than blacks, percentage and absolute numbers, blacks get pulled over and are physically restrained in a higher percentage, according to at least one study. And yes, that actually DOES indicate systemic racism. But not the way the Marxists say. The correlation is political. If you live in a Democrat ruled zone your life is more dangerous no matter the color of your skin. If you travel through a D zone you are more likely to be pulled over. More likely to be manhandled by cops. Democrat regimes have been More racist since the Party began, with it's origins in the pre-Confederate South, the Confederacy, the Klan action wing, the Democrat Jim Crow racial segregation laws, the Urban vote Plantation, LBJ's Great Society Welfare rules, through to the really systemic everything is racism/white privilege propaganda campaign of the Twenty First Century. Statistics are brutally clear. If you are in a Democrat city ruled by the Party over a decade, you are: More likely to die from Covid-19. Ditto to be in poverty. Ditto to be murdered. Ditto to be miseducated. Ditto..... HOWEVER, much as I'd love to point the accusatory finger ONLY at the rich white politicians, and some people can argue that since it's the Party that encourages racism, it's the Primary Cause, it's not the whole story. The cultural degradation of attitudes towards women in Rap music and the hero worship of drug crime envy are complicated. The Rap music misogyny I don't feel qualified to properly address. Just not experienced enough. ( Don't listen to it. Or K-pop ) The high regard held for drug trafficking is however, a cultural phenomenon I can grasp. I grew up with Cheech & Chong. I watched as the Nixon drug treatment program to combat the narcoterrorism against U.S. troops in Vietnam and American cities was perverted by his political opponents, ( Democrats. Deja Vu ) into the War on Drugs ( and freedom ) and the rise of the Big Prison Industry. With it's enormous ( and I think bipartisan ) bribery and the bizarre combination spiral of harsher sentencing to keep the demand high, and high demand requires more prisons. To the levels in the Clinton administration ( last numbers available ) with more incarcerated Americans than any other nation??? So rebellion against unfair drug laws is perfectly understandable, with my perspective. And while I can equate the high esteem given to Professional Sports & Drug Dealers as peers that have escaped poverty and understand, I'm perhaps less invested in class envy than the victims of D Party schools. Or it could just be generational. | ||

I have old friends who think Trump is Hitler, and federal police are Nazi jackboots/stormtroopers. The media has poisoned their brains. Here's a good commentary on the affliction some have developed thanks to the Commie media. Yeah, I know they're not overt Communists, but useful idiots are all worthy of the title too. They actually think that the federal officers are to blame for provoking the violent mob trying to over-run and burn-down the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon. The hysteria over officers wisely using unmarked vehicles to arrest criminal suspects is just amazing. It's like people have lost their ability to think critically. Instead of "police arresting criminal suspects" they see "Nazis grabbing people off the streets." They don't get that if if were Nazis, the "protesters" would have all been ended or disappeared in the first week, almost two months ago, and half the news media would be disappeared, and the other half cowed to obey HitlerTrump.
