I'd probably get my old '86 XL250 out of it's long time holding pattern and ride it like I stole it. Or retire from riding two wheels and get a fine late model Vette. |

I bought my M2 from a good friend that bought it new in 2000, so technically I've been riding it since new, just didn't own it until 2010. It is rather simple, pretty easy to maintain, and reliable. I like to think of it as my hot rod. Might not be super bike fast, but it sounds mean, and turns heads. I wanted a sport touring bike so I could ride further, more comfortably than my M2 provides. Traded my wife's ninja in on a Can Am Spyder RS so with a new seat and madstad shield that will likely become the touring machine. That makes my next bike a confusing decision. Might still be a sport tourer but more than likely a 1125r/cr or a 1190sx. Air conditioner became higher priority or I probably would have gotten one by now. I still want a Zero bike to play on and maybe commute to work. Just have to see how the career plans out the next few years to justify the investment. Other possibilities: * Guzzi grizo, norge * Mv Agusta brutale, stadale, turismo * Ducati monster, diavel * Triumph sprint * And for some odd reason, I did the old Honda CX500 (guess b/c the vtwin is different, like the guzzi). |

It's all Erik's fault!!! In the days I was working for Buell Motor Co., Inc. I did not ride. In the early days of Buell Motorcycle Company I did not ride. It wasn't until I graduated college that I bought a 1995 Buell S2 Thunderbolt as a graduation present for myself that I started riding. And, boy, what adventures it has taken me on and what doors it has opened to allow me to experience some pretty freakin' phenomenal things... But since there are no alternatives that match my criteria; American made, sportbike, ideally with a V-Twin... To answer: What would you be riding if not a Buell/EBR? I'd have to respond 'probably nothing'. I'd likely revert back to 4-wheeled vehicles and finally spend some time getting them back in prime condition. The DED SLD:
Unfortunately it doesn't look anywhere near as nice anymore. What was supposed to be my first project when I finished college (see mention of graduation present above...):
(internet pic, obviously not mine but nearly identical to the original equipment on mine) However, a week or so ago KTM popped into my head...not sure if I could get over the non-American made thing, but it's not like any other American manufacturer will make something sporty enough for my tastes. For the record, IMO the Motus is WAY too much coin and doesn't have any eye appeal. Risking Hybrid defecating in my corn flakes...here's hoping (holding out?) for a future of American motorcycling not devoid of Erik Buell's influence! 1313 |

Been riding this slightly modified Street Triple R for three years. It is simply the most fun of all the 20 or so motorcycles that I have owned for the last fifty years. Does everything the XB9 does, only better. Much better. And did I mention totally reliable?

Jon that is what I think a speed triple should look like. How much of a problem was it to change over the headlight to the single bulb? What else did you do that I am not noticing? Besides the exhaust. |

Given that I wanted, but couldn't get a Street Triple, and picked up the Buell as a runner up, I have no doubt that I would have waited a couple/few weeks to get the Street Triple. Hard to say if I would have kept it this long though. I might have moved into a Speed Triple, or Monster by now. Hard to say. |

Mike's S3 is a thing of beauty to behold, to me it's exactly what a Buell is supposed to look like. The headlight on that Street Triple looks the business, very much like the one on my Z1000. Easy swap, in answer to the above question. |

Before the S1 my dream bike was the original Ducati Monster 900. That as a long term daily rider would have been challenging, I'm sure. The Buell is far from perfect, but it's at least cheap and easy to fix. |

Gentleman_jon, I just picked up a 2010 Speed triple this weekend. What exhaust are you running? How does it sound? |

Champ, Thumper, thanks for the props. Here is the mod list on the Streety: Gray Lady Modification List: 2010 Triumph Street Triple R Modifications included in purchase 1. Exhaust: IXIL Extreme round. 2. Triumph Seat cowl 3. Rizzoma bar ends 4.GB Engine case covers kit 5.Gold swing arm spools 6.Adjustable clutch lever 7.Frame sliders 8.Clear alternatives threeway tail light 9.Triumph Rear lamp unit 10.Triumph OEM tank protector 11.Soupy Performance adjustable drag link 12.Soupy Performance adjustable sidestand New additions by JM 13. Black alloy rearsets Sato copy 14. Black adjustable brake levers, gold adjuster 15. Hyperpro RSC steering damper 16. Remove front reflector, replace with oem bolts 17. Install pig tail for Battery tender 18. Front fork sliders 19. Osram Xenon Nightbreakers + headlight bulb 20. Triumph OEM rear hugger 21. Gold Aprilia handlebar ends 22. LSL single headlight conversion 23. IXIL muffler dB Killers 24. Rizzoma black alloy brake reservoir 25. Dunlop Q 3 Tires 26. CRG black 3”round bar end mirror, modified bar end 27.Black and gold swing arm spools/sliders 28. Stainless steel sprocket bolts 29. Corbin Seat 30. Triumph OEM billet rear brake reservoir 31. Triumph OEM 1050 throttle tube 32. Remove stock radiator shrouds. The headlight conversion was harder and more expensive than it looks, in part because the instrument cluster must be moved, and the instructions are in German, not one of my languages. The exhaust is the Spanish IXIL, was too loud for my little village until I installed the db killers. Altogether, the bike weights about 400 lbs with a half full tank, and in my opinion, is better handling and more fun to ride than the Speed which weighs about 75 lb.s more stock. |

But Jon, how do you deal with that saddle. That alone would have driven me to the newer Speed Triple. I wonder what the 2016 Speed Triple will bring? Other than the saddle, the Street Triple is a fantastic bike! |

Given the closing of two suppport vendors, the increasingly cloudy future of EBR, I've been seriously considering jumping ship here. I had a triumph sprint st before, like it, but need sportier. Triumph 675R a thought, but too small. SO, Aprilia RSV4 is a serious thought. I could go BMW or Ducati, but they are both kind of common. I like the V engine, and like having something more unusual |

Sifo. Quite right, the OEM seat was not very nice, even though the R model has an upgraded gel seat. I replaced it with a Corbin. Number 29 on the mod.s list.
Big improvement over the stock seat, if a bit dear. Got this one on eBay. |

Sprint Aprilia's are very nice. If you like twins, you might want to take a look at the now discontinued Aprilia Tuono R. They also made a very nice Tuono R "Factory" model with Ohlins suspension from 2006 to 2010 - great bike if you can find one. They were very highly rated, normally being selected as the best streetfighter in comparative tests. I have a bit of experience with them, and I found them to be well made, reliable, great handling and good looking. A bit portly compared to the Streety, and a bit light in the front under heavy acceleration. Engine by Rotax, 60º twin. |

Missed #29! My wife had the Corbin on her Street Triple. She also tried the gel seat from the R. Only slightly better than the base seat is giving it the benefit of a doubt! The Corbin was tons better! Still, it never quite fit me right after a couple of hours. My wife was very happy with the Corbin though. It worked for her taking the long way to CA and back. |

Jon, did your headlight come from Wild Hair accessories? All my instructions were also in German and boy are they ever proud of it... Cost me damn near $425 for the brackets, bucket and bulb |

I'd just build something... Maybe like an 1199 engine with spoked ZTL brakes, tube swingarm... Kinda cafe style with some bobber mixed in but with modern geometry. |

Pwnzor - I bought it from Spiegler Performance, but it sounds like the same LSL set up. I was sort of surprised that I had to drill out the non removable screws that held in the ignition lock, to relocate the instruments. For the time and money I spent, I probably should have thought about fabricating it myself.

I have a KTM 1190 Adventure. Dynamically the best bike ever! It does everything with aplomb. Only trouble is most of my first season with the bike was spent with it in the shop working out a host of niggles. I think most of them are gone now and man is it a hoot to ride!!!!
