Damn, it's been awhile since i have done this test but i just did it when i seen you post.. I got 55.92 download and a 3.10 upload.. LOL. That is some pretty great upload, Matt. I never get more than 5 mbs up. I pay extra for "Boost Service" from Cablevision, (famous bunch of crooks), took them a couple of years before they could deliver the download over half the speed I was paying them for. I am working on a class action against them. This is about what I get now that they gave me a new modem, and fixed the cabling, all the while denying there was any problem.  I don't understand why I only get 22mbs download to my iPhone, which is working on the same modem, which is only two feet away, but connected wirelessly.  | ||

Because with wireless, the 54 Mbps you're connected at is actually half that. They're adding the speed for each direction in the full duplex connection. In terms of wired speed connections (10/100/1000) you're actually connected at 27 Mbps. And that's the "wire speed" not the actual throughput. I'd call 22 Mbps of actual throughout pretty good. | ||

Pwnzor, have you had the chance to play with Verizon's 4G LTE net yet? I assume you still have their ISP that is... I had fairly decent luck with Time Warner in Fort Bragg, NC for years. I had to pay for their premium package but it made gaming pleasant. My brother has some sort of ridiculous connection at his house in FT Worth, TX. He gets like 50 MBPS down and 10 MBPS up. He uses it though with all the torrents he goes through. | ||

I'm not switching to a 4G phone until the entire network is 4G. I have Verizon FiOS here in California as my ISP, but in Georgia it's Charter. They claim it's 8meg down/1.5meg up but it's more like 3meg down and 0.5meg up. Jon, if you read the fine print on most ISP service contracts, they generally don't guarantee any speed, and in some cases they don't even guarantee connectivity. The speed I posted in the original message is on Wi-fi. If I plug in a cable you can add about 10meg to the speed in each direction. FiOs is hands-down the best service I've seen. | ||
