Excerpt from above site. Interbrand attributes Harley-Davidson’s decline to a weak economy for motorcycles, and missteps in the company’s image through selling MV Agusta, closing Buell, and hiring a non-riding CEO: Over the past three years, Harley-Davidson has seen a rapid decline in brand value as it becomes a less relevant purchase due to the recession. To deal with its losses, the brand has decided to restructure, exiting the sport bike market; it will discontinue its Buell product line and sell its MV Agusta unit, with the goal of focusing fully on the Harley-Davidson brand. However, unless it also invests into innovating, its product could become stale. This year, the brand also experienced some negative social media and press from an audience upset by the fact that the new, numbers-focused CEO does not ride a Harley. That about sums it up! |

Yeah, that is it in a nutshell! While other motorcycle companies are expanding their selection of bikes and selling them, HD is doing the opposite. Having worked for HD, it is typical HD logic. |

Yeah, well, who would want to buy a sportbike? (Don't tell BMW!) |

The dealerships must know this really well because have you seen the prices of used HD's lately? You might as well buy a new bike for about the same price. I think they are doing it so they can say hey if you buy a HD and sell it in 3 years you can sell it for $1,000 less than what you are buying it for today. Oh yeah, FUHD |

I attended an "open house" this weekend at the local dealership. They had some killer prices on left over models. The problem I heard a lot of guys complain about was they weren't taking trade-ins. |

why aren't H-D dealers taking trade-ins? well, while in Indy for MotoGP, my brother snagged a '07 12S demo from his local dealer & I rode his '99 M2 while @ dealer, salesman revealed they had 40[!] used H-Ds in their inventory |
