In my 45 years of riding my dozens of street machines ranged from a Honda S90 to a naked Gold Wing with a chopped '62 Panhead sprinkled in among the mostly 550-650 nakeds and 250-650 dual sports. I began testing Buells in the late 80s after I bought an 88 650 Hawk GT followed by a 2001 SV650. The next step up was my 19 day old '09 XB9SX[ after my wife got her first Buell{an '09 Blast}last July. ]

I traded in my '89 Kawasaki EX-500 (good starter bike) for a 1951 BMW R-25 when I caught a classic/restoration bug ... added the matching sidecar last year to haul the kids, but wanted something a little faster that could corner a little bit better (success!).

Nothing...first bike I owned is a '08xb12R and she's a beauty. I have ridden many though...dirt bikes, a ninja or two and 1098 ducati and just liked how the bike felt. (the duc was nice too!) Tracked the bike last year a few times and it was awesome.

It's not a MV Agusta, although it is an Italian 125 cc. Twin.

It's not an Aermacchi, even though it Italian and red.

Dinosaur is pretty close actually.

It is an early 1950's Moto Rumi 125 CC Junior. I bought one just like it in Perugia, Italy in 1958, beginning my love affair with saucy Italians:-).

Riding this thing was so much fun, and created quite a stir when I brought it back to Boston: no one had ever seen or heard anything like it.

It had about ten horse power and was light enough to pick up and carry into the house.

ss

Here's an easier one. The last new motorcycle I bought before my first Buell. Hint: Erik Buell was a fan of these too.

1972 Ossa 250
1979? RM125
1977 Yamaha 750 triple
1981 KZ1000
1998 HD SuperGlide
2005 XB12R

The_new_guy:

My KZ1000 was also a 1981. It started as an LTD and I ditched the goofy handlebars for a "superbike" bend and changed a couple of other cheesy cruiser parts.

Great bike for it's time, I loved it.

Before my Buell I owned these, and had access to a bunch of others not listed here.

Honda VFR800A (Still have this one.)
Sportster 1200s
Suzuki GSX1100F
Suzuki 750GS
Honda 750
Kawasaki 500 H1
Norton 750 Atlas
BSA 650 Spitfire
Ducati 200
Yamaha YDS250
BSA 250 C10
BSA 125 Bantam

Those are the street bikes, I also had a bunch of dirt bikes. Started riding on my own in 1962, before that I rode with my folks on their Harley's.
