Hmm, I can only speak from experience, but I think you will find the powerband quite enjoyable. I love mine, and my only caveat is the chin fairing. I wasn't able to run mine with the Micron. Not a super big deal, but it would be nice. YMMV.

My '04 12R had a Micron and the chin. It sounded very nice but I bought it with it on there so I didn't have that before and after experience.

Froggy,

My new Micron is being jet coated. I should be getting it back around July 8, and then the bike goes under the knife. I have Al's ECM map and the open air box conversion.....man I hope after I am done, that this puppy will lift the front wheel in second gear no clutch, as to justify the $1300 plus invested in it........
Can you share some of your instal findings..

I am not the one installing it. My dealer gave me a discount on it, so am having them do the installation.

The bike should lift the front wheel no clutch even while stock. Doing the exhaust isn't going to make a huge difference with power, but perhaps that extra 5 or 10hp it gets will help.

I just bought a Micron system as well. I was thinking about performing the installation myself. Does anyone know if the whole process can be done with the bike on the kickstand? All I've got is a cherry picker at the moment... haven't invested in a front or rear stand yet.

Yes it can!
With nimble fingers and swivel sockets I installed mine with no engine rotation.

No engine rotation!?! My hats off to you sir. Well, perhaps it CAN be done, but these ham fist I have certainly would'nt allow it.

I did mine in the garage. No rear lift, only a floor jack (to support motor) and kickstand. Even with that a universal and wobble extensions were crucial. DON'T OVER TIGHTEN!!!! Also, double nut if you can, our motors are vibratin' SOB's.

DAMHIK, but you don't want to be buying a Jims Tool.

Swivel sockets? I've got a whole bunch of SAE sockets, but no metric. Is the bike mostly metric or SAE fasteners? I'm stoked... can't wait to do this tomorrow afternoon.

I've never heard a Micron before.
In the Exhaust Shootout, Al compared the Micron exhaust to a Chevy small block with open headers.
That sounds awesome!

From a D&D to Micron let me tell you, I wish I would have done it on my second bike instead of waiting. The system is freakin' sweet!

I've run into a few hiccups while installing my Micron system on my '08 XB12Ss. Fully assembled, the front of the muffler is touching the front of the sump and the right side exhaust tip is awfully close to the swingarm (like 2mm or so). Although I could come up with a way to use the provided heat insulation square, the instructions don't say how to use it. Also, there's got to be a better way of dealing with the exhaust cable.

Anyone know about how close to the swingarm and sump the Micron muffler is supposed to be? Mine's too close for comfort... not running the bike yet.

my exhaust tip is about 2cm from the belt so if i had a guard there it would likely be very close. its not close at all to the swing arm... i cant imagine how it could be?

Sorry, my mistake. It was very close to the belt cover. And it's touching the front of the sump. My friend helped me make some spacers out of exhaust wrap material for the rear and we put a few strips of the stuff under the front sump as well. Works fine and it runs very good too. The driveability issues I was expecting without tuning the bike are non-existent. Again, I've got an '08 XB12Ss and it runs fine without a tune and the Micron. I think the upper midrange and top end WOT needs some tuning, though.

I did mine in my garage also with hand tools and a floor jack.I used jack stands under the swing arm to stand the bike up strait.Worked out good until I stripped the isolator bolt.A bit of advice i can give.Lift the motor up to the frame before you put the bolt in,then tighten it.I have race ecm and I get a big smile whenever i ride.

Man, I love the sound of the bike now. It's completely changed the character of it and made it far more enjoyable to drive. However, I can tell it needs a tune. I guess I'll be waiting to hear back from Gunter about when ECMSpy will truly support the '08 models.

My (2007 Firebolt) belt guard needed to be cut away a bit to fit. Ss and other longer wheel base don't seem to need that.

I took the drop on an R1 on a corner from the lights. Next lights he lifted his lid and said man that thing sounds awesome (and it does).

It runs from lower revs (like down to 1600) and pulls right through. It is terrible unless mapped. I have an American Sport Bike map and it is good.

I have alloy ceramic coated headers and a black ceramic coated muffler. Looks.

I work in the same building as the state police HQ. I have a parking space there. I may be on borrowed time for an EPA. Something to think about when you get a performance muffler.

Hey guys, i will get some pics up soon, my web album software has been funky. Anyway, it sounds great. Both it and the Drummer sound great, so its hard to pick a winner. It feels a bit smoother with the micron, but it could be my imagination. Even with the Race ECM i am getting popping on decel above 3k, but that will be no issue to tune out. : )

Wow, you would think that the Drummer was made of gold, everyone wants it! Its already spoken for. I mentioned to my cousin about me getting possibly getting a Micron, and he pretty much bought the Drummer off me right there. I still haven't heard from him, he needs to come get it : )

I had interference with the belt cover as well, but I simply spaced the muffler out so I didn't have to touch the cover. Wasn't interested in cutting my brand new bike just yet. It does look like the '08 ECM is doing a decent job of trimming the fuel as the bike runs pretty good without any tuning. At this stage, there's no option for tuning it yourself anyhow.

I also stripped the motor mount due to the isolator bolt. It took me a time to get it off.
Suggestion: Bolt up the front and rear down pipes. Snug them, but allow enough play to rotate them as you piece together the remaining header. Once you have everything in place and adjusted proper tolerances, tighten her up. Thats what I do. Being a multi piece header, it is paramount to get all the pieces lined correctly. If not, and a piece is under stress or tension, it will surely vibrate out.

DAMHIK, but it will startle you at first when a piece of the header comes loose from a down pipe!! I was OH SO tempted to ride around for a while in its new condition, but I figured it would play hell on my AFV.

(OK, so I guess you know how I know now)

Flames shooting from the front downpipe are sick!

Sounds very mean!

I mounted the chin fairing back on my '08 and it fits well with the new exhaust. What's the minimum suggested clearance between the pipes and the plastic?
