This bike looks awesome, even the weird exhaust somehow looks good on the bike. It makes me feel good to see that Erik is still producing great bikes.

Some of you really should get out more and stop reading what you want to hear. Seems nobody reads anymore.

BTW.. Some of you really should read Dave Guess's "spot on" rambling about price points.

People People People some of you have not been pricing motorcycles lately have you. This very day Triumph just released the price of the new 675R Daytona $12,999 that is for a 3 cylinder 600cc class bike. The days of the 10,000 dollar cutting edge bike are done and gone. Can I afford a 40,000 dollar bike not in this life time but I will find away to buy the 20,000 dollar Erik Buell Racing bike that will be for sale in a year of two.

Wrong. You could find both Suzukis and Hondas last year at the $10k price point...I know cause I looked. Dealers were desperate. MSRP is exactly that, suggested.

A Triumph is a bad example of "normal" price points. Though, most likely a good example of what Buells will be selling for in the future. $20k is just TOO much for a streetbike IMO and I wouldn't even try to own one. That's just not my bag.

I know its your opinion, but I will have to respectfully disagree with you there. $40k is probably too much for me to afford right now, but I've spent $25k buying a Buell once, and wouldn't mind doing it again. I am pretty much sold on buying a loaded Ducati Multistrada, and it would be a little shy of $30k once I left the dealer.

I understand not everyone is able to make that kind of purchase, but there are many that can. Personally I would rather have nice bikes than a nice car, or any car for that matter. I've been thinking of buying a house, but if it gets in the way of buying a new bike, I'll put the house on the back burner.

Now that I think about it, getting my 1125R for $6k was pretty awesome. : )

The $20K street bike has become commonplace at this point. RSV4, S1000RR, Even the 1198 is getting close. And these are the bikes that are increasing in sales, unlike the Japanese bikes.

$40k is targeted at a different market but it shouldn't take much to get that price down to something in the range of the Aprilia and at that point, it's an emotional decision. As we all know, Buell fans are an emotional lot.

Damn bikes' pure sex! If I won the Lotto, it would be in my garage - ASAP! Totally pimped with TOL stuff, engineered to go, with serious racing ability from the start! Is there a dampener on that puppy?

Froggy:

quote:

but I've spent $25k buying a Buell once

Uhhhh, what?

And I understand there are "many" who can make that purchase, but if you are completely honest with yourself, most of those who CAN who are in the sportbike market, aren't diehard Buell fans like we are. If I wasn't a diehard Buell guy, and I had $20k to blow on a bike, I'd get an S1000RR or a fully loaded '11 ZX6R for the track. AND I'd have money left over to buy a used bike to streetfighter or cafe.

Rats: How many RSV4, S1000RR and 1198/1098's do you see on the street? NOT MANY. They are not commonplace...and the S1000RR is much LESS than 20K...you could pre-order one for $13,800...and that thing is arguably the greatest liter bike ever made for mass consumption.

I'm not trying to argue about how awesome the 1190RS is...I'd fight someone to the death if the prize was the Carbon model...but the fact remains (in my eyes) that I will not be buying another NEW Buell until they are well south of $20K...and I think A LOT of people feel the same way.

P.S. Froggy, I'm with you on the whole car thing. However, I have a family who needs one. Sometimes priorities cause MANY people to spend money on the things the HAVE to spend it on, rather than what the WANT to spend it on.

Blake,

>>> the 1190RS is/was built to be used on the street

"Dead wrong. The Buell 1190RS was built to obtain homologation approval for racing in AMA Superbike. As such it must meet mandaotry government requirements for street bikes, but it is a racing machine, just as a Ducati 1198R is a racing machine. Yes, they are "street bikes", but without racing, they would not exist."

An understandable response if that is what I actually posted.

Here is my actual statement that I posted earlier:
>>>"And yes, the 1190RS is/was built to be used on the street, and supposedly will be marketed as such, as the 1125 "Erik Buell Racing Race ECM" was/is intended...LOL!"

It reads a bit different when the whole statement is quoted.

Dead wrong. The Buell 1190RS is pure sex, no excuses, no excess, definitely of superior racing heritage, that wet weight makes me drool for the CF - just woza! Who do ya gotta kill - wow! I'm pretty sure he could sell a hundred of those CF bikes without even bothering with a lessor model - however, I like the CF model - its raw and refined at the same time. Good to see Erik Buell Racing has a sense of self-humor in the keeping of the 1125R/CR style kickstand.

Over $20K its and exotic bike in my world. The cool thing with motorcycles is an exotic bike is well within anyone's reach. You can't say that for cars.

I would pay $20K for an 1190. I would rather pay $15K. I think the production bikes will be right in the middle of these two numbers.

The more detailed pictured we see , the more impressed we get.

For bikes like this , price is irrelevant.

20K they would sell. I couldn't buy one and that sucks but they would sell.I would have to wait for a good used one which I would gladly do for an 1190 CR or 1190X. I have other responsibilities which would prevent me from spending that amount of money, that being said there are many many people who could and would spend that money. Thank GOD too it's the only way I'll get one as a used bike!!!!

Now not to long ago I was looking a a ducati and there was 3 models a street one for 16,000 a street semi race for like 30-35,000 and a race ready that was all carbon fiber for 70,000. So I think if ne of you think that the "rumered" price is high your nuts. Ever hear of the Britten? They made like six before John Britten past and they sell for over a hundred grand. I'm not saying I'm getting one I wish I could maybe some of the bigger sponsors on here could order one, and help bring the price down for the average Buell enthusiasts.

im a little fuzzy on buells history but i would say hes got a huge jumpstart, considering how small his operation is. hes building a bike that will compete very well with or just straight beat down multiple companies with more engineers on one project and almost unlimited funding compared to ebr as a whole. that is truly amazing!

and if all this publicity, the 3yr amsoil sponsorship, and response to the release is any indication i have a bet they will be back up to speed sooner than ya think.

even though our bikes were built under the control of the overweight mothership it makes me a little more proud of mine to see this bike released.

VinB - false. There were more than six Brittens made.

$20k S1000RR is not true either, unless the dealer is just taking advantage of someone. BAD.

And someone mentioned it earlier and its true - the days of $10k sportbikes are behind us. Sure, you can find dealers selling for just a hair above their cost, but heck 600s are now MSRPing for over that figure. Liters are getting around 12.5/13
Prices are going up, so really the high price of this bike (1190RS) isnt THAT crazy considering the rarity of it, parts, performance etc

Oh, its far too much for me (though I think it'll get a powerball ticket today ; ) ), its not that much considering everything else on its level.

>>>There were more than six Brittens made.

Kind of. A friend has two and let's just say that it was "about 10".

There continues to this day a bit of controversy as Britten employed 2 numbering systems.

What has always amazed me, and serves to illustrate how damn tough it is to get from "having a great bike" to "being in the business" is that John Britten started out as a multi-millionaire (after that day his day signed the BritCo title over to him in the hotel room in Italy) and, even with millions of $$$, they struggled to make the small number of bikes that they did.

John was, as the diversity of recorded volumes illustrates, a unique person.

wait.... froggy what buell did you buy for $25K
Just not sure what buell would cost that much unless it was one of the early 100RR's or an XBRR.
Did you get a race bike from Erik Buell Racing?

Or did you spend $25K on a Buell, as in $12K for a 1125R + $13K in mods, maintence, ect?
Or have you spent $25K for Buells, as in several bikes?

Why is there always a parade of asshats that have to piss all over the good news? Can't we just be happy that Erik has got the ball rolling, in LESS THAN TWO YEARS even. Give it a rest!

For each of you that is bitching about the price, go build your own motorcycles and sell them. That way you can demonstrate your brilliance to all of us. When you are ready to ship bikes, come back and let us know.
