So the story goes like this. Cory takes the bike out for a ride to see what it sounds like, I'm wanting to get video of it anyway, so off we go. Got 2 passes in, one good video. Back to the garage, pull in, get the bike back up on the rear wheel stand. Let it cool for a few minutes, started taking off the muffler, it's pretty warm, even with gloves on. Crap, won't come apart easy, pulled the whole thing off. Still won't separate, hit it with the red mallet. Finally I get it apart and go to put the other one on. Broke a clamp, just about put an eye out (not mine either) and finally get it (the RT-1) all back on again.

Mind you, I normally do all the work myself, but at this point, I've got this over-enthusiastic assistant, so I'm only working on the right side of the bike. I get my side buttoned up, leaving one bolt and nut for Cory to deal with on his side. Everything is going great at this point, exhaust is back on and things look good.
One last look over the bike, everything is in place, bolted down, clamped or whatever it needs. I turn on the key, flip the kill switch to run, hit the button and I get NOTHING. It didn't even try. Weird. Flipped the kill switch again, thumb the starter, still dead, no joy. Key off, back on again, same crap. WTF. Ok, battery seems good, voltage is 12.8 or so. Try once more, still nothing. Tore apart the switch housing, start testing wires. Hmm, plenty of juice at the switch, even changes state when you push the button. Very odd. Ok, pull out the manual, start looking for what's in the circuit. Key, kill switch, button, 3 relays. Trace stuff down, no blown fuses, power everywhere it should be, but still no joy from that damn button. Hey, I think this happened once before, maybe a year ago, nope, button was stuck on, not inoperable. Grrr. Ok, one last part, starter solenoid. Got juice there, but never gets power through the green wire to fire it. WTF again. Ok, this was the funny part, apparently Cory's never started a vehicle by shorting over the terminals on a solenoid. I was laughing my butt off when he jumped up and back from the sparks. His eyes looked like coffee cup saucers. OMG, wth did you do that for? Well, the engine spun over, so that part is good, I hit it again just to see for sure what I thought I saw. Yup, rear wheel moved some. Smack the forehead! Looked at the instrument cluster again. Damnit, it's NOT IN NEUTRAL!

Somewhere along the line, the kickstand got put up (it was on the rear stand) and the shifter must have accidentally gotten pushed down some, dropping it into 1st gear. Lesson learned, don't over-analyze these small problems. I don't know how we both missed the neutral light not being on, but we did and blew about 1/2 an hour looking for why the bike wouldn't fire. Never once tried pulling the clutch in and didn't see the light wasn't on. We both got a good laugh out of it though. Anyway, it fired up just fine once it was out of gear.

Some days you just miss the little stuff.

Got my RT-3 in on Monday, sounds amazing.
Super loud but the tone is awesome. I couldn't be happier the pipe and my Erik Buell Racing ecm are by far the best mods yet. It feels like a completely different bike.

put my k&n and Erik Buell Racing race ECM on and went for a ride today. WOW what a nice smooth power curve. The bike did surge a little at idle and idled between 21-2200. Now it idles smooth at a constant 1500 rpms. I need to get to a dyno and get some numbers.

Got my RT-3 today! Looks great Dean. Well done. I'm taking it to a buddy to get polished. He is running behind some, but should be done by next Tuesday... Pics will be up then!

Thanks Dean. I'm also considering sending you my Stocker so you can do the MT-1 magic on it!

well they are $550 new. I have mine polished which I'm sure you've seen. The pipe has maybe 200 miles. I would do $550 shipped. Only thing is I would want to keep my RT-3 until Dean is able to send me my pipe.

$550 new pipe
$175 what Dean charges for a polish job
$725 for what I have new
or
mine with low miles for $550 to your door

Xb9er,
Thanks for the post. I'm sure you'll have no problem selling the exhaust, Dean does some nice work.
