lesson in polishing....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZOac-YECpA

I use my 1 hp bench grinder without any troubles. I've done a fair share of polishing in the past. Sand with 600 grit, up to 1000 if needed. Start with black compound on a tight cotton wheel and work your way up to the green polish.

super easy.

Just a comparison, polished vs. not polished.

Those of you who have the RT-3 exhaust, how does it do as far as getting exhaust residue on your rear wheel? My Barker does a lot better than stock (which was pretty terrible about getting the rear wheel dirty) but there's still stuff to clean. It's just that now I clean it after several tanks of gas rather than having to do so after after each tank. (And it is admittedly a lot less work to clean than when the stock exhaust gunked it up.)

I'm wondering if the RT-3 would do even better given its higher, more-outward exit.

Beats me, I only hose my bikes off once in a while to get rid of the winter road salt.

Not yet, but it's in the works. After the one I'm working on right now, it's next in line. It will actually be a modified RT-1 but you'd never know unless you knew what to look for. : )

About one minute ago I ordered my EBR race ECM. Whenever it comes I'll try to get on a dyno and get some numbers. I'll have to get a k&N filter as well.

Has anybody else installed their new RT-3 yet?
I need to keep this thread moving, I am so pumped about my order and want to see the new installs as they come to help time pass as I wait for mine.

Show me your pipes!

I got my rt3 on friday and installed it yesterday. Easy install. Pipe looks awesome on the bike. Just need to polish it! Pipe has a really deep roar. Sounds awesome but is loud. Definitely need ear plugs. Have a EBR ECM as well. I installed it after I went for a little ride. The first thing I noticed it as soon as I started it is that it makes the exhaust quieter. I had them set the rpm at 1300. So I have to go for a ride. What smooth power. The low rpm problems pretty much gone. I could easily take my hand off the throttle and ride with just the clutch hand. Good smooth power throughout the rev range. Had it to redline in bottom 4 gears. I think around 215 kph. I couldn't really tell if the combo makes any more power. Really smooth through out. I only got to go for a short ride before it started snowing so I don't think the ecm had a chance to properly learn. Will hopefully get to go for a longer ride this afternoon. The rt3 has the slash tip at about 4 oclock. The ecm is a pump fuel, O2 on, BAS on, sidestand switch off, 1200-1300 rpm. I tried to post some pics but my puter is having issues. Pete you could post those pics I sent you.

Thanks for posting the pics Pete. Chris you don't have a sidestand switch. I think it goes by the kick stand where it looks like something is missing. I don't know where the BAS is. I just told them to leave it on. I asked zac4mac how to properly order an ecm and talked to Michael at EBR as well. I love my CR but I think I want a R for the track! I just put the clubman bars back on and I sure like them. They almost put you in tuck position and keep the wind from hitting you right in the chest. Bike handles alot better at speed too! Got to go fo a ride today. I think the ecm is learning. Its like riding a ROCKETSHIP! Its surprising how smooth the bike runs at low idle. It'll run at idle without chugging in any gear and pretty much pulls smoothly from there. Thanks Dean for designing and building such an awesome pipe! When I talked to Michael at EBR he said he'd like to have a pipe so he could put it on the dyno and tune it. That would be awesome, a custom EBR tune for a custom Keda-Design pipe!

If everything works out, I'll try to send them to EBR after the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout next month.

Hey Dean, send me an email and maybe I'd be willing to have you send my pipe over to EBR for testing. If they can get it to me in a reasonable time. I Already ordered my Ecm but maybe we all can work somthing out.

Pete

When I talked to Michael at EBR he said that if the tune changed after he got a pipe I could send them back the ecm and he would reflash it.

I was thinking of powder/ceramic coating my rt3 from the start of the midpipe where it hooks up to the header to the tip. Probably satin black like this exhaust. What do you guys think?

Hey.... I know that rider...

I didn't mean to crack it open that hard, but after one gear change I just couldn't help myself. : )

That and the temptation to show Dean how his bike looks on one wheel... decided to keep the front end down.

Today was the first time I was able to hear the RT-1 and RT-3 in person. As a previous D&D Owner, well the RT-3 has a MUCH better tone to it. I like it over the Jardine and the D&D. It removes much of the rachety "clacking" at idle and replaces it with more thump. Make no mistake though, the RT-3 is loud.

In the process of removing the RT-3 from his bike and installing the RT-1 so I could hear it before I left, I broke his bike...

I'll let him tell the story but needless to say... it's just one of those times when you get two gear heads to troubleshoot an issue that was an easy fix to begin with and the entire time we are both thinking the worse case scenario and look for the mechanical culprit.

About half an hour later the bike was put back together amidst laughter and she fired right back up...

The RT-1 sounds awesome... for me it would be the perfect sound.

After bouncing some ideas off Dean on a dual can setup to keep the volume down a little he might be getting into another prototype dual system in the future... that may be the one for me. I have high hopes for it.

Until next time... keep up the great work Dean! I was really impressed with the hard work and quality you are putting into these pipes!

What was really funny about the whole thing was the look on Cory's face when sparks started flying. Think "electro-shock therapy" and it's close. : D
