What would happen if I ran this in a stock 08? Could I mix a gallon of 100 with a tank of 93?

Is it leaded?

Assuming its unleaded, all you would do is waste your money. One gallon of 100 and four gallons of 93 would give you something like a 95 rating (I didn't do the math). Your bike is programmed to accept a minimum of 91, anything higher is just making your wallet lighter.

If it is lead based, you can damage your O2 sensors.

I don't know if it is leaded. It is labled "Race fuel" and over $5/gal.

I wouldn't. There would be no point and your bike would not run any better or faster.

Too high an octane can lose power.

If you have stock compression, there almost certainly WILL be a slight loss.

Lead is a no-no. One reason to take out the oxy sensor on the racebike is so you CAN run leaded (IF you need to and IF allowed in the rules by racing organization)

Slaughter is correct.
With the stock compression ratio...anything more than 93 is a waste of money.
Any "feeling"...of power is all on the pilots head.

This isn't new science ladies...this has been hashed out over YEARS of racing, cars, bikes, boats, etc.

Do some internet search/homework....stock compression ratio...93 works very well...higher works NO better...maybe worse.

I've run 89 in my R1 during the winter. Works just fine. NO signs of detonation, same perceptable power, exact same milage.

Airplanes make 75/80lbs of compression Compared to the 120+lbs of compression of the Buell. The race ECM tuned for race gas would run great with 100LL av gas or 100+ octane race fuel.

yeah lower compression but also lower oxy levels available so thus the need to bump the octane rating, thus making the fuel more resistant to detonation

True its high octane rating is what makes it run so nice in th Buell. But if its not tuned for it,its a waste of money.

As far as I know you can't quantify nice as far as how an engine runs. Do we use a special "nice" dyno that can show us a graph of smiley faces?.... Wow! this bike runs 10% nicer....

A given octane rating by itself absolutely will not make an engine produce more power. Its sole purpose is to prevent detonation. If an engine isn't detonating, then the higher octane does nothing. There may be other components in the fuel that make an engine produce more power, but the octane rating alone is by no means an indicator of performance.

Aviation gas is not good for your engine. It a dryer gas or something. My brother's flight school right now and said that. And higher octane in something that doesn't need it won't do shit except make your wallet lighter. C mon I thought you guys were smarter than that.

Reason I asked him is I was going to run it in one of my jetski's and throw some diff domes in for 200+ psi.

OK so how is it a wast of money when its about 3+ dollars a gallon and supper is about 3 or so dollars a gallon. I like to run it when it's cold out so the bike will make temperature.

octane = temp.of detonation
higher octane=higher temp.to fire
lower octane= lower temp.to fire

if there is anyone out there that seriously thinks higher octane is giving them more power, they need to wade back into the ocean with the rest of the squid.

People the lead content of 100LL will render your O2 sensor inop. Don't get fooled by the name 100LL it is not low in lead it is just lower in lead than the fuel it replaced 100-130. 100LL is the base fuel for most leaded racing fuels but things have to be added to bring down the reed vapor pressure rating.

I'm a voting member of ASTM Aviation Fuels committees which govern aviation fuels, including 100LL Avgas, and I'm also an engine engineer. Our archaic air-cooled aircraft engines require the higher octane (and the lead) for detonation margins and for lubricity.

As people on here correctly said, if your engine is not detonating, adding octane does nothing for you. And as was also stated, the "Low Lead" in 100LL is low compared to old aircraft fuels. But it has 4 times the lead of the old leaded automotive fuels. Besides screwing up your O2 sensors, you will not believe the nasty deposits that it leaves behind. Ask any aircraft mechanic.

100LL won't get anywhere near my 1125R.

it seems that there will always be the type out there to think that they are being forward thinking or creative by doing some of the stupid crap listed here, and if that's the case then, they'll get what they deserve.
if "airplane" fuel was meant to be used in a motorcycle, they would call it "motorcycle fuel"

i'm using shell v-power 100+ (euro 100 roz) ever since on my buell (xb12/1125) and they're just running smooth and w/o any issues.

mechanic told me not neccessary but it doesn't hurt anybody.

Well Howworkclutch,

You said nothing about racing and that your bike is stock. Regardless of the state of tune, if it isn't knocking then you don't need the higher octane.
If you are looking for more power, then there are race fuels that you can buy that make significantly more than pump gas, but I can tell you they cost more than $5.00 a gallon

I've just come back from a Buellers tour around Tasmania. While the others queued at the 98 pump I just filled with 91. I didn't find any difference with performance or consumption. My car mechanic tells me to run 1 tank in 4 on the 98 to stop deposits on valves. I do that but it probably isn't necessary.

VPower 100+ in Aus has ethanol. I find that I use more fuel with it.

There's no way around the lower mileage that you get with ethanol blends due to the lower btu output compared to straight gas. The usual 10% ethanol blend will yield about 3% less fuel mileage than 100% gas. Most places I've seen aren't giving you a 3% discount in the price to go along with the drop in mileage.

46Champ...

Nice airplane, BTW.

Avgas replacements are coming REAL slow. It looks like 94UL will be a replacement, which is 100LL without the lead. It will work in engines with less than 8.5-1 compression from a detonation standpoint, although I don't know about the specifics of your engine and how the valve seats will handle the lack of lead.

Other candidates are the Swift bio-fuel, which has promise but a long way off, and the other announced entrant is by the guys at GAMI but they are so secretive no one knows anything about what their proposed fuel is. Time will tell. Our next ASTM meeting is in June.

Pilotvtail thanks you just confirmed what little I had heard. My seats won't hold up at all without lead such is progress. Just something else to budget for right. Engine should need an overhaul by the time the new fuel is released.
So I would guess you have of fly a Bonanza nice airplane.

Pilotvtail & 46champ, my first plane was a 47 Champ with 85 HP. I loved it till the right gear came off landing on a gravel bar. Traded it to my oldman for 115 HP PA11 with tundra tires. That was a long time ago. Don't live in Alaska any more and plan to sell the homestead with airstrip this summer. Great memories. BTW neighbor used to land his Boananza onto our 1350' grass trip. What a sight!

Back when I was in school I had a buddy who co-owned a Tri-Pacer with his dad.
One day, we worked on it during class in the morning and flew it in the afternoon. Good times!
I'm still wanting to build my own someday.
