I'm pretty sure it's the 2 chamber design that is the actual limiting factor, so potential hp may (or may not) be lost due to me wanting to get a specific sound. Straight through is definitely louder, but that can is also smaller with less packing material. I got lucky today and heard an 1125 with a D&D on it right after mine. It is OBNOXIOUSLY loud compared to anything I've done. Easily 10 decibels louder, to the point of actually being painful. I don't know if the exhaust on that one was blown out or what, but it was f&^king loud. I guess I'm getting old, it was just too much.
I will investigate doing the oval muffler with an alternative design inside, but now I've been wondering, did it gain more hp in the last 2 weeks that I've been riding it? I swapped out to the RT 3 on Wednesday, so it's had time to learn, but I'm thinking that there's the possibility that the original design just took longer to learn and posted the same gains. I will schedule another dyno session in the next week or so. This is expensive when it comes out of your own pocket, but thats why I'm doing it.

I have not made a firm decision on sales of this one yet due to the repacking issue. I do not like the way it turned out for bolting it together. It could be riveted, but I've never liked how they look on an exhaust can. Just a personal preference really. That being said, if there's enough of a demand for this, I'll build it, but I'm still looking for a way to make it look right to me. I guess I'll go get a rivet tool and see how it looks. The holes are there already. The alternative is just to weld it closed and if it needs repacked, have the can sent back to me for repacking. Cut it open, repack, weld it closed again and ship it back. Kind of a hassle really, so that will be the last choice. I'm using what appears to be Spec 30 packing, although it's not labeled that way and it should last for up to possibly 20,000 miles. That was the estimate I was given, and compared to the automotive equivalent style muffler, those last for 30-40k miles with the same packing.

I just got to comparing the runs, I need to get the run files from Gateway HD, but it looks like at 9000 rpm, I gained fifteen horsepower with just this pipe!

Well done!

If I do them all welded then it would be cheaper initially, but they would need to be carefully cut open on one end to repack and then be welded up again. What's the typical charge to have a silencer repacked? I've always done my own stuff, so it's never mattered to me before. I'm looking for a reasonable amount to charge for doing the repack. I know it should last a long time, but throwing down $40-50 every year on a dirt bike sounded like a lot to me a long time ago. I got the cheapie packing ($12-15) that only lasted a single season.

For these, I bought the highest end packing I could find for temp and durability. I tested several and landed with the white e-glass packing. Depending on the mileage per year and how hard it gets run, theoretically one of these could last 2-3 years easily, if not longer. At any rate, for the repack options, either it will be riveted or welded. Bolting it together simply isn't a good option, I broke 5 of the 6 bolts trying to remove them. I guess they got softened up and just twisted off inside.
Post up which way you'd prefer. If it's welded, it will most likely be around $500 to make/sell them. Setting them up for rivets, maybe a little more.

www.keda-design.com when I get a chance to sort it all out. I think I'm going to have to upgrade my hosting package soon, I know there's a limit on the package I have for the number of items to sell. All the various options add up quickly and take the available slots. For the time being, shoot me a PM if you really do want one. I will reply back as quickly as possible, usually within 12 hours.

D adams your exhausts look great. Two slight changes that I would love to see are springs instead of clamps like many other companies use.For the tip, coming out straight and the angle created by two 22.5 degree cuts welded together, instead of a 45 degree cut right off of the can

Best one yet Dean and we know by now any loudness someone would be concerned about can be subdued without any appreciable loss in H.P. as I have seen before. Good job man. Also, if you want to consider it, and if its even needed, you could offer a repack/reweld for a nominal cost. Great effort and great workmanship. Bob

Dean !!!!

That looks awesome!

I am really enjoying watching you doing R&D here.
I'm jealous. : )

Hmmm maybe an oval where the round is, and chambered.
Quiet, but "thumpy" so nobody thinks it's an I-4.

Keep it up.

Would it be better if I set up a 24 hr web cam out there in the garage? Live feed for welding? Naaaaaaah, that would be too much of a tease.

Zack, thanks, much appreciated. I wouldn't mind doing an oval, but there really aren't a lot of places I can get stuff like that from. I can make what I have available shorter, but there's only a couple of real options for doing this. Two chambers in something like a smaller oval is harder to do. I may be doing the X-pipe setup sooner than I had thought, I had a guy come by today to see the work first hand. He's wanting the 3" dual cans with an outlet to each side and the crossover in front. I may try fabricating that one on my own dime just to do it pretty soon. I figure that if I do make it and he sees it, he'd probably buy it right there on the spot. Between him and the owners of the business he's at, there's potenitally 3 or 4 pipes sold just there alone.

Big thing is the dyno results though. Everybody wants good numbers and I'm seeing that 15+ hp gain at 9k rpm has even more guys leaning over the fence now. It's unreal seeing that large of a gain from just a pipe. I've been skeptical of all the claimed gains on various pipes, but seeing is believing and if I hadn't seen it, I probably wouldn't have believed it happened on mine either. Either way, the run files are at Gateway HD and they can verify it. Even the A/F mix stayed the same, still haven't done any tuning on this one yet, much less a race ecm, although I did email EBR and got a response back within 8 hours.

Me too, looks a bit like the FMF full system which a lot of people agree is the best looking exhaust available, and the gains are nice!

So, should I cut the tip and post a pic of it on the latest collector I made? I need to go get a rivet tool anyway, so I'll mess with it some today if I get time.

i'm liking the dual 3"can idea for sure.
I gotta agree with whoever talked about softening the 45 out the can. either the 2 22.5's or even a mandrel bent tip.
Dean, you are making a shit soup in my brain!! I really love the ebr full setup, but you are seriously making it next to impossible to justify that kind of coin. Now, especially thinking that you're seeing 15hp with the new pipe, I'm almost ready to fall off the fence. Post up those results when you can, and,............................Congratulations on catching your unicorn!!

There is absolutely no comparison between mine and the EBR full system. I don't weld day in and day out, although I've been doing it long enough to do a pretty decent job. I don't think I can get 3" cans, but I can get 3.5" and 4" at any time. Whenever I get around to actually making the dual setup, I'll end up with 2" outlets I think. I'll do stepping to get there, but it won't take much. The crossover part is the most expensive to do and get it right. I may buy something different just for that, but from Burns Stainless, that piece alone is about $300. I plan on shopping around some to see what I can find. I don't think the Megs collector would work efficiently in that application since there's a small lip on the inside once it's welded. The lip doesn't hurt the way I use it now, but reversing the direction probably won't flow well without a lot of work.
Personally I prefer a radiused outlet, but thats just me.
The results are both one page back and also in the dyno section. The average gain was at least 4-5 hp across the board, 15+ at 9k and 8.5 hp at peak. Torque was up 5 ft/lbs but I don't know what the largest spread is. Looks like it might be 10-12 ft/lbs at it's widest point. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I probably wouldn't have believed it.

On your dynochart I notice that with your pipe you are well into the 13:1 range on the afr, what was it with the stock pipe? Seems like you have modded the ECM to richen it up, most stock bikes are running up around 14:1

The ecm is untouched at this point. At best, it got to 13.3 or so with the RT Type 3 on the last set of runs. Average was maybe 13.5 or higher. I do not know why the changes, unless I've hit the magic spot for scavenging. With the stock pipe, it ran 14:1 every time. The only change I have ever made was a K&N filter and that was the 2nd week I had the bike. I'm sure that extra fueling would not hurt any, but I haven't done it yet. As it is, it makes plenty of power for me in stock form, but I wanted some serious thump. I got it and now it looks like I get me some freebie HP and torque.

If I was in the market for another, this would be my first choice.
