my only question is this, could by chance my opening up both the intake and exhaust sides (easier breath, though only slightly) create a situation where the ECM is adapting fuel values to keep the A/F mixture at the optimum level? I remember my Mustang days we would run them a little rich when initially changing head/cam/intake & exhaust...

My AFVs are both sitting (and apparently stuck on) 105 for both and my bike is surging annoyingly. The values IMPLY a rich condition. What should the O2 values be for stoichiometric perfection?

Arillious, if they can't get it to take the re-flash what are the chances of getting it dynoed pre reflash. Then once you find a competent dealer and get it dynoed post re-flash (same dyno of course.)

That would invaluable information--hopefully it will confirm that there is no change to the power curve.

I plan on getting it dynoed as soon as i get it back and get some extra cash/find a decent place around here in minneapolis to dyno it.

Then I have to attempt to find a better dealer to flash it. Though i think i might just try and get a new ecm that allready has the update. My guess with how my bike has been running and the fact that my bike wont take the relfash is that i more then likely have ecm issues anyways.

Just need to see if they dealership would opt for a new ecm for me either that if buell cs would send me one out.

I have a question to anyone who has had the re-flash done. Did any of the Dealers mention the bike having to be totally cooled down before the re-flash could be done? My Dealer insisted on me leaving the bike overnight and doing it the next morning. Then I called a second Dealer and
they said just drop it by and they would do
it in about a half hour. I'm confused about this. Can anyone give me some feed back on this? Thanks.

I rode up and they did mine. No problems. Sounds like they were just busy and needed time.

Yes, there was a change to the procedure they got from BMC. Apparently the bike has to be totally cooled down.

I rode back roads for several hours then ran it to the dealer. They had it done in 20min or so.
Only difference I have noticed is lower MPG.

I'd like to know the skinny of this third ecu burn as well.

After the "new" reflash a month ago, I called and finally got to a BMC tech via customer service.

After a very long and often silent conversation, he assured me that there was NO plans and or reason for a new/or another update to the current program, then.

With that said, again, I'd love to hear the VERIFICATION AND SPECIFICS of this latest and alleged, burn.

Please do not be vague in your(s) post, be sure and factual with enough information that won't leave us with questions remaining.

I believe the loyal owners of the current 11 deserve nothing less.

Thank you Slypiranna for your suggestions on how I should construct my posts. The 1125 owners are lucky to have you speak on their behalf. Having said that, our dealership's owner asked me how my bike was running after the reflash. I told him that the bike seemed to be running worse in the 3 to 4 thou range. He then told me that he had talked to our regional manager and that he had said there was another reflash on the way. So, I believe there is a high level of credibility in this information. I will try to stop at the dealership today to get more info. The conversation with the dealerships owner took place as I was sitting on my bike getting ready to leave, after working almost 13 hours. So, when I got home, I was excited about spreading the news. (hence the rather vague post)

I was at the Dealer last night, and have spoken with the DM also. Both have verbally confirmed what Teach said - Buell will have a new calibration as soon as they can get it through the proper channels (EPA certification). The Dealer Owner said they will not perform any more of the current (2nd) calibrations, waiting on the new (third) one.

The explanation I got was the current calibration's focus was on the charging/battery issues, and it unexpectedly and indirectly affected the 3-4k drivability issues and made that worse.

Personally, I gotta wonder how they are testing these calibrations. In the real world, and I can only speak for my experience, both calibrations have totally sucked for street use. Completely unacceptable for a production motorcycle and a disgrace for an otherwise exceptional motorcycle.

I sure hope the third time is the charm. I've about had it. I've been patient so far but my patience is running thin.

Mine ran rough as a popcorn machine for almost a thousand miles after the flash.
She finally smoothed out less than a week ago.
Riding is a pleasure again, huge grin last night, even after dealing with rush-hour slow-crawl.

When she runs right, it's like being on an I-4 with torque.
I think I'll pass on any new flashes for a while.

Teach, I did not mean to offend or discredit your post in any way what so ever. Please accept my apologies if that is the way it was interpreted.

Your input in this forum has always been helpful! : ) I hope we are good.

Back to the new flash, #3...seems others have heard of the same thing as posted above.

I will try to call BMC today and see whats up. If the dealers have stopped flash #2 then the information on flash #3 shouldn't be a secret.

Sly,

I'm sorry, I took your post the wrong way. The bad thing about electronic communication is that you are "guessing" the "tone" in which things are being presented. I guessed wrong.

Next,

I wasn't aware that they have stopped #2 flash until I read XB9's post. Pure speculation on my part, but perhaps this info is just being let out now. I know that our owner had just recently talked to the district manager in the last couple of days. XB9 brought up a good point about the EPA cert. You have to figure that any remapping would have to have EPA's stamp of approval.

Nobody has 'stopped' the #2 flash, the DEALER I spoke with has chosen not to recommend or perform the #2 flash. With his knowledge that there is a #3 in the works, and #2 has issues, why bother? Makes sense to me.

Thank you for the correction Xb9 about my last post concerning flash #2.

I just called my local dealer and BMC. Was told by both, no other reflash other than the one we currently have.

I guess we'll just have to continue to wait and see.

Hello all,

I have about 800 miles on my 1125r. I had the ECM update done at the 500 mile interval. It ran fairly well prior to the update, and even better after. I still feel some slight surging, but I am sure that will be fixed even if I have to go aftermarket at some point.

However, today while riding home from work I was doing about 4K RPM in second gear when I romped on the throttle. Normally that means hold on, but in this case the bike seemed to cough, not quite a backfire, and failed to accelerate at all. Of course, my first instinct was to drop throttle, which I did and the bike fell back to idle with no problems. I then rolled on once more and everything worked just fine. The rest of the trip home was fun with no issues. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Does anyone have any ideas of the cause? Is there anything I should do?

Keith, read this thread down to where Neil & Zac chime in: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/365999.html?1212496732

Sounds like you may be experiencing what's described there.

Post reflash.

Since having the latest flash done at sea level, in central florida well over a month ago and now bringing this example to central Ohio two weeks ago, on a trailer...

The AFV's have finally made a long awaited adjustment.

Compared to another bike in this state, we match now at 105 F, 100 R.

Wideband feedback clearly shows the results.

Prior to this change, the forward cylinder displayed a constant leaner condition than the rear within closed loop parameters. Both now are more in sync.

Another small positive improvement in the right direction.

This proves to me that while slow in learning, the current refrash is indeed, working on this particular 1125R.

Another much improved ECM update/reflash has just been released.

Per Anonymous as of September 16th...

The updates are live in the US, not something a dealer has to wait for, although many are not yet aware. As soon as a US dealer has his/her Digital Tech machine online (and many are permanently on-line), the download is automatic as of earlier today, and it is then available to whatever 1125R is hooked up to the machine.

Mixture is not richer, it's now correctly done at exactly the right time and the spark map is now right, which was the biggest issue. The bikes will not only run better, they will be cooler and the fuel mileage will be significantly better. ... It is a very good update. Just do it!

This is for the DTII update released on September 16, 2008. It only affects 2008 models (all 2008 Helicon models are eligible). The 2009 models ship from the factory with these corrections already in place. No word on this being a product program as of yet, so there may be labor charges to get this done. Shouldn't take more than 0.5 hour including test ride to set the AFV.

The 2009 models have a completely different set of calibrations due to the O2 sensor relocation and new fuel injectors.

I posted this on another thread, but just in case there's any questions:

This re-flash is not (so far) associated with a product program that can be referenced on h-dnet.com. Here's what the servicing dealer needs to do...

Update Digital Technician II to version 2.002.

From the first DTII screen, click on "What's New".

Scroll down to the "Re-flash" section, and it will show all the updated 1125 calibrations.

PM or call me if anyone has any questions.
