Another EBR thought I had this morning- included in LAP's recent press release was an announcement that they'll be auctioning off excess equipment from the factory starting March 18. I saw some posts on Facebook suggesting this means EBR will not be in business for long; they'll just assemble the remaining parts into bikes and shut down if a deep-pocket buyer/investor doesn't come along.

THEN I stumbled across an older post-shutdown quote from Steve Anderson where he mentioned that EBR had a much larger design staff than Buell ever had. Most of these people were apparently working on Hero projects. People read "excess equipment" and think factory machinery but I'm thinking it's more likely computers and associated equipment used for the Hero design effort. Even long-term, EBR won't have need of a huge design staff so they won't have need of much of this equipment. Every piece of equipment that gets sold takes pressure off of LAP as far as recovering their investment in EBR.

I'm still very hopeful for EBR's long-term prospects.

There are too many big / key names appearing on staff for me to go to this thought so easily

There's a Facebook group called "Jay Leno, please help us save EBR". Nothing posted there since August.

Just received the April issue of Cycle Word. In an article about Polaris history, it said they recently recruited "displaced EBR employees". They hired John Fox, who ran testing and analysis and is now head of Indian Motorcycle Engineering.

Michael Richter's LinkedIn profile lists his current employer as Polaris, so he'd be another one. OTOH, he's made several posts on Facebook regarding current happenings at EBR recently , so I'm betting he's returned to EBR.

I want to see an organic, internal growth this time, even if that means slow.
The 49% investment share, influence, debacle has not worked well.

Speaking of potential investors.
Someone should try contacting
Marcus Lemonis.

Willmrx, those guys are into cruisers. I'd think Matt LeBlanc or Tom Cruise might be more likely to invest in a sportbike startup.

Seriously? Twenty percent is a heck of a break. You want to get one cheaper buy used. There is a nice one in Florida, go get it.

Donald Trump is slipping in the polls in Wisconsin. He should hold a press conference and announce he is buying EBR and plans to seriously compete worldwide. The cost of EBR would be pennies on the dollar compared to the press coverage he would get. He has plenty of business experts that could handle the business side of EBR.

That would be great! Pump the motor up a bit to dominate WSB while they are at it. Show what American ingenuity can do.

it would be great if some of these high profile motorcycle enthusiasts would jump on the band wagon, even if totally silent partners.

the above article was pretty good, talking about the future.

there are a lot of Buell EBR fans out there, that would love to support another bike. Possibly not the current platform high performance bikes.

good reliable, good handling, good powered street bikes. sport touring bikes, hot rod bikes like the S1, etc.

and as mentioned in the article, lower priced, smaller bikes. Some of the new bikes out there are fantastic bikes at good prices. The new yamaha twins and triples, hondas twins, kawasakis twins, the new ducati scramblers, the new triumph bonnevilles, moto guzzi v7 racers, etc. .

Just a thought. Erik needs to be moving bikes, and people standing in line to buy those bikes.

just a thought. Sales and movement of bikes is critical....

YOU need dealers to sell the bikes and right now that seems to be a major issue.

"Pump the motor up a bit to dominate WSB while they are at it."

I think what they learned at WSB was that the motor was at its limit. All the pumping they could do had been done. It's a great motor, no doubt, but 1 liter inline 4s that rev to the moon are going to make more power.

Hootowl,
No way is this motor at its optimum. The changes that were made for WSB were amateurish and low dollar. The problem was that there really was no available funds for the re-engineering of the cylinder head and cylinder. The changes required involve casting changes and they are expensive.

It is a great motor, but nowhere near its real potential.

^ You're pretty funny sometimes. "amateurish and low dollar." lol. I don't see YOU out there on the grid competing at that level.
