Ok here is the story. Just a few minutes ago i left to go out to a local bike meet. We have this every thursday. So I am head riding in rush hour traffic, taking it nice an easy for about 10 minutes till i get to my on-ramp. To celebrate my new found freedom from the gridlock i give it a little gas and roar up the on-ramp (but not floored or anything) I stop accelerating at about 50 mph and i am cruising up, when i hit a little bump. Nothin major, just a little dip and rise in the road (whooop). As i come out of this bump my toe nicks the gear lever up a bit and WAM, big time rough running. At this point it think "oh great, what did i just do", and pull in the clutch and coast to the top off the on-ramp. At the top i think, "ok, maybe is was just kinda between gears, i'll try again." Put it in first an inch forward. "No problems so far". So i start to take off, and its back, big time vibrations. I keep the revs low as this seems to lessen the vibrations and pull over after about 200 yards. After fiddling around in a parking lot a bit i figure out that its the engine thats causing the vibration, not the trans. So i limp the bike home and post this. I am getting ready to head out into the garage and check things out. It seam like the timing is way off. Any suggestions?

Check your motor mounts to the frame - bad bushing/busted bolt? Sounds like that may be the real culprit.

Ha, the goddamn aluminum support bracket that holds the engine up (the one on the top end, right by the exhaust outlet) snapped right in half!! Piece of crap. The could have taken me right off the road. How much money am i looking at to get a new one? I will try to get pics for you guys tomarrow (if only my camera phone did email!).

And i have figured out what cause it to break. One of the 2 bolts that hold the engine to the mount is missing, an appears to have been missing for quite a while. Needless to say i am not happy.

Can anyone tell me what size the Allen bolt is that shoots through the middle of the engine bracket is? If i remove that, can i get the bracket off the isolator mount and order a new one, or will i have to order an entirely new isolator mount assembly? How difficult is it to replace the assembly?

Thanks in advance

Replace them - I'd say its time - lol - sucks though for that to happen - haven't a clue to why it would - any guesses - but thats all they would be - at least its a fixable problem and you get to spend a little quality time with the bike - lol - if you have warrentee I would persue it, if not then just fix it. Geez - I'm still trying to figure out how that would happen - outside of a crash of some type - got me

I had this happen on my blast twice. Once it was the bolt, and the other time the mount cracked. Both times it was fixed under warrantee. I don't wheelie or hop curbs. I do monitor the engine mounts regularly when I am airing up the tires. Keep an eye on them, they do break occasionally.

I'll see if I can find part numbers on my service reciepts.Best of luck fixing your ride.

Thanks for the help guys. I dont hop over any curbs either, but i have been known to wheelie from time to time. How hard is this to do? Am i going to need any special tools?

Torque wrench - floor jack, tools - high temp red locktight, - and parts - bracketl0149.t, bolt on left/rt aa0718.1czb, top bolt aa0614.1caz - might want to check your isolator bushings as well.

Ignore the top bolt you won't need it - you'll also need washer ba0714.2z. Make sure the bolt isn't broken in the head - ez out if it is, and be more carefull on those wheelie landings - lol

BTW, as long as i have my exhaust off, what is the best way to clean that up. Its lost it finish and is starting to get covered in rust. Is there a paint I can use? Its a Kerker exhaust if that helps at all.

Black flat BBQ paint or flat black ceramic header paint - both work.

I have gone through 3 bolts on the front left mount! So often, I find myself at a red light leaning forward to see if it is broken again, but I realize it's the normal vibration I'm feeling.

BBQ paint worked for me, too.
