Hey All! I am new to the forum. I am living in Honduras and have 1 of 3 Blasts in the country.

Yesterday I went to leave school. The bike started and then shut off as if the key was turned off. Then the start switch would not work. I messed around a bit with the bike(switched gears, moved kicked stand up and down) and then it started. I drove it 100 yards in then it turned off again. This time it started right back up. I drove it about a half mile after this and then it died again. This time it took a few pushes of the starter button for it to start. I made it back home, popped the seat off and took a look at the fuses. There was a bit of gunk of the fuses so I cleaned them up and when to start the bike but again no power. I did the paper clip trick on the kickstand and clutch safety sensor and again the starter didn't turn over. There is no sound coming from starter or any where else when I click the starter button.
What am I missing? Being that were in a rain forest and humidity is high, I am going to check the grounds tonight for corrosion. Any other Ideas?

What kind of shape is the battery in? Any mods to the bike?

No mods and was told battery was new when I bought the bike 5 months ago. Just cleaned all grounds and still nothing. I switched the Diode to check the clutch sensor. Tried it and it turned over but when I stood up to try it again couldn't get it to turn over.

I'd definitely test the battery, if nothing has changed and it's all of a sudden not starting, it's a good bet it might be the battery.

Concur with EZ. Sounds like a common safety switch issue. Connect the 2 kickstand wires together and flip the clutch diode. If that doesn't solve your problem then it may be the BAS. But do those 2 first since that bypasses every safety switch except the BAS. Let us know your results!

PS pull off the points/timing cover and watch the LED light for flashing. No flash = no spark.

Some more developments last night...After I checked everything(except battery and LED), I put the bike back together. Tried the starter and nothing happened. I moved the handlebars and it worked. After some playing around, I found the starter only works while the handle bars are in a specific position. Must be a bad wire right?
Thanks for all the replies!

Yes. Broken wire, loose or bad connection.

The plug it plugs into is in the background with the grey and white wires. I ended up just cutting the 2 grey wires and splicing them together...In a few weeks I am going to bring it to the shop and have them "make it pretty."

Don't count on a shop to "make it pretty", you'll be disappointed. Do it yourself.

Here in Honduras they take workmanship serious. For around 5 bucks I will get a guy to put a new plug on(if they have it) or solder and shrink wrap it. He will probably even throw a warranty on it:-)

Since I have you two here(eriko and EZ) and I can't for the life of me figure out how the heck to start a new thread in suspension, What are your recommendations for me...Here there are speed bumps everywhere! I am constantly scrapping the exhaust and I often bottom out the suspension. I am either tearing through town and in between traffic or I am cruising at 65 through windy, sometimes bumpy, mountain roads. Is there a way to lift the bike a bit? What would you do differently to the front/rear?

Concur on the rear shock! The front depends on how much money you want to spend. Easy way is to shim the front up with 1" spacers (appx.) and slightly heavier fork oil (to compensate for the added pre-load). Beyond that is new springs and gold valves.
I would add shims beyond 1" until the suspension is fully extended without weight on it. The is a more scientific way to do it, but this way centers more in you not bottoming out.

DO NOT LOSE THE SNAP RINGS THAT HOLD THE FORK (spring) STOPS IN. They aren't avaialable from Buell and can be very difficult to match up if you don't have a good supplier AND VERY EASY TO Lose!!!!

Ez- Will that bolt right up? If I were in the states it might be easier to do customizing(I.E. a belt tensioner)

Eriko- Do you know where I can find a picture of what a spacer should look like?

I really appreciate the responses and owe you guys some cold ones!

You can use regular stacked washers or PVC pipe or metal pipe, stacked or cut to length. Nothing fancy. I don't have the diameter handy, but it just needs to be "about" the right size!

Belt tensioner isn't really a good idea with a ribbed belt.

Yeah - bolts right up - the extra parts are just 10 washers total - 5 for the top and 5 for the bottom 3 on one side 2 on the other - same sides top and bottom - not loose enough to need a tensioner -
