I looked through the threads and I couldn't find one with my specific problem, so I see if anyone can help me with my problem.

I recently bought a 2005 Blast from a friend for $500. Great deal, only problem is the bike won't idle. It will start if you give it some throttle and will run with throttle, but as soon as you let off it dies, won't even think about idling.

I've replaced the intake boot and my dad went through and cleaned all the jets. Same results.

Any thoughts?

Throttle Position Sensor? Maybe it doesn't know it is supposed to be idling. Wiser minds than mine hopefull will chime in.

Did it run this way when you got it, before you did anything to it? Did anything you do change how it runs?

PS Welcome!

Did you try adjusting idle? Any backfire?

Thanks for the replies guys.

What would I do to fix a Throttle Position Sensor issue?

Yes, it ran this way when I got it. Changing the boot did nothing. When my dad took apart the carb he said the idle jet was loose and fell out, so I'm wondering if the guy I bought it from was messing with it (he claims he wasn't). My dad cleaned it and put it back together, then it started and idled for maybe 2 seconds after giving it some throttle and then died.

We tried adjusting the idle mixture screw, had it set at 2.5 turns to start with and adjusted from there, wouldn't idle after anything, would backfire with throttle. It won't even start now.

I'm thinking I'm going to replace the spark plug for sure since it has sat a while.

Did you try adjusting the idle itself - the screw with the spring at the top of the carb? A lot of times folks mess with that, when the boot goes bad or when re-jetting, or something goes dirty in the carb - water, etc. - if the boot is good and all the rest is stock and no popping on decel, then I would turn the idle up a bit.

I'll try adjusting the idle next time I get a chance to work on it, thanks

Update time. My dad cleaned out the carb again and this time he flushed out a bunch of junk. He said it looked like someone had put sealant around one of the gaskets or something and it had gotten into the fuel line or something like that. He also checked the spark plug and it wasn't hooked up properly, so he fixed that.

Anyway it runs now, although it does backfire a tad from time to time(not sure if that's normal.

Gotta say, this thing is a blast to ride! Thank you guys for your input, I'm sure I'll be hanging around this forum.

Adjust idle air screw found on carb bottom- 2 to 2 1/2 turns out from light bottom to stop backfire. Also only use premium.
