I dunno - one diode more on the dash would have been guessing work gone, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Doesn't make sense to replace the speedo for a signal problem.

Hi All

Looking for some suggestions, advice, thoughts.
I have an old Vetter Rooster Fairing that looks like it will fit on the blast but the turn signals, speedo and probably the ignition switch need to be moved. The Turn signals will be easy but... has anyone here moved the switch and speedo? Are there any problems I might create by trying this? Any suggestions on where I could relocate them too?

Both come off easy, your only limitation will be the length of the wiring.

Hi guys!
Before you staart replacing things you need to find out what is wrong.
The Blast charging circuit is easy.
Start by fully charging the battery. It should be 12.75 volts or more, whatever the voltage is that is your base line voltage. Now start the bike and check the DC voltage at the battery, if it is more than the base voltage by a volt or more you are OK, it is probably your battery connections or an open or short someplace else.
If you have less than the base line voltage when the bike is running, disconnect the stator connector(two heavy wire connector by starter) then start bike, check the AC voltage at the two leads. It should be in the range of 28 volts. If the AC voltage is less than 26-27 volts, you have a bad stator.
If the AC voltage is 27 or more and the DC voltage is the same or less than static voltage it is your regulator.

Thats all....EZ Peazy

You rock Swampy (of course it still might be the regulator, but better to check).

Hey guys, I got tired of the stock mount speedo mount cracking from the vibration (since I don't have my front fairing on). So I rigged up a new one, it was super easy and came out solid. Also, don't mind the hose clamps on the clutch lever, I had one cable break, bought a new one, and broke the hollow aluminum threading that goes into the crank case, so I rigged up the two to create one that will suffice until my new one gets here.

Anybody know anything about speedo's?
Putting a wrecked 2001 back together. Original speedo was missing so off to ebay we go. The replacement does NOTHING but the high beam indicator.Did I get a bad one, or something else?
Any help would be great.

It's possible, but. Does the bike run? Was the wiring damaged in the accident?
Does the speedo do anything else, high/low beam, does the needle move when you turn the key on?

Yea the bike runs GREAT. I was surprised how well it did run after a few repairs. No visible damage to the harness. The original speedo was smashed up and the kid we got the bike from just took it off.
As far as doing anything, nothing but the hi beam light. No needle bounce when the key on. The wiring diagram is not easy to plow thru, so I'm kinda at a loss....

My guess is bad speedo. I would contact the speedo seller first to see if they knew if it had a problem or if they even saw it work. Yes, ebay honesty is long shot, but worth a try.
Take a test light to the speedo connector and see if it has power (and ground) in various wires. If only one wire is good, then it's probably in the wiring. But definitely take a close look at the harness, especially the other connectors.
Do you have any other electrical problems?
Know any other Blast owners close by? Speedo swap is easy, try theirs (or they try yours).

After a few SNOWY days in North Carolina, my volt meter, big ass heater and I were able to trace the speedo and a newly discovered tail lite issue to a faulty ground in the harness.

Making for a very happy wife.

Thanks guys

Pabst Blue Ribbon.....I see a part number that American does not carry. Must be a super seeded part. Val is doing the New Rider course this week so she will be at a dealer. I bet they let her out to buy parts.

Thanks. You guys are a lot of help.
