I just bought this and the previous owner had HD put in a new trans. already...The bike has 16,500 miles on it...When I`m stopped at a light and get ready to leave the light sometime it feels like the trans. jumps just after letting the clutch out..It only does it in 1st..New Mobile one 20/50 in the gear box and the same in the motor....Stock except for a K&N,stock exh. mod. and a new 140/70x16 tire...I`m getting it ready for my 25yo son who live about 100 miles away and I don`t want him to have any issues riding it back and forth to work...
Any info would be a great help...stuartracing@att.net

Usually this problem is only on the first start off or 2 when cold. Shifter pawl adjustment and subsequent proper clutch adjustment after reassembly. Sadly it should have been addressed after the trans was done and even more likely it was the reason the trans was done!!!

Very common and not usually a big deal riding when you expect it.

Wow,thanks for the reply Gearheadrico....I`m getting this ready for my son who`s 100miles away working...I`ll look up the shifter pawl adj. and see if it helps..
I just put brake pads on front and rear...
Since I`m a motorcycle drag racer for 25 years when I feel a transmission do this it brings me back to tearing down my motors to fix the trans. by back cutting the dogs ect.ect...
I`ll relay this message to my Son and what to expect...
Thanks alot brother...

I brought his Blast down to him today...Got it out of the trailer and he starts it up to wark it up...I explain to him about the 1st gear jump when the clutch comes out....
He rides it for a good 20 mins and I ask him how it went....He says it was GREAT and NO 1ST GEAR JUMP....Excellent....
He loves it and thanks a lot guys for all the help and idea`s....
