Also getting doner bikes in a country that doesnt sell them would certainly drive up the price!
Thankfully EZ is "in the loop". I'm sure they'll let you know.

I saw something involving a different engine - I think it was a liquid cooled 250. Didn't look anywhere near as awesome as the Blast motor does in those frames...

Speaking of Blasts...

Playing with jetting, I think I was really very rich with the 48 primary. I am at 5k ft... I finally got around to drilling out the idle screw blocker plate, and discovered that I was idling stupid-rich - I got best idle at one turn out. o.O

Put the 45 in, and best idle is between 2 and 2.5 turns out. That's a whole lot better. The bike pulls more smoothly up to redline as well - I'm not sure if it's actually quicker, but at least it's more consistent.

And at Dan's advice, I went to a shimmed stock needle, about 0.48" - about the same as the XLH needle, but possibly slightly better in the midrange. Nothing significant, though.

I'm taking it to get dynoed in Santa Fe (7k ft), so I'll see what they come up with. It *might* benefit from a slightly richer pilot jet - a 46 seems like it could be perfect. I'm still not sure my 175 is the best main, but it certainly works well. The A/F ratios will be interesting to see, both with what I have now & what they end up with.

Definitely outside my area of expertise... though at least rejetting is a 5 minute matter with the aftermarket intake!

FWIW: Make sure the dyno guy has a selection of jets. If not, bring your own.The "Big Twin" jets will be too rich, but Sportster 883 jets will be closer. But it'll be real frustrating to have it on the dyno and not be able to dial it in because of lack of proper jets (and shims). Been there. Thankfully they didnt charge me for the time it took looking to find jets. Luckily I was able to do my own dynotuning after that: )

Yes, leaner jets for higher altitudes.
Jet sizes: Slow-42,44,45,46,48. Main-145,150,155, 160,165,170,175. I doubt you'll need anything richer than a 175 and not having ever tuned a Blast a 5000/7000 feet, I dont know if you'll really need the lean mains.

Well, it was 44 stock. I've got a 44 (stock), a 45 (in the bike), and a 48 (laying around/came with Dan's kit, though I apparently misplaced it). I'll see about getting a 46 tomorrow from a local chopper/custom shop (old guys, quite awesome, just look at me funny when I show up on an 1125 & don't actually give me any shit for it). There's no 47?

As for mains, I've got a 170, 175, and 180. The 175 is in the bike right now and feels pretty good. I doubt I'll need leaner than 170 with how it's flowing right now.

I've got a few spare brass washers of the 0.024" thick range. I'll bring those with too.

Really, if I had a wideband (I keep think about buying a wideband & a controller), I could just clip it into the exhaust stream at the muffler exhaust & figure it out myself. :-/

hey guys, problem:

while cruising on the highway at 70+ usually around 80...

i keep getting a big MISS a few missing thumps i should say. where the bike abruptly starts slowing (engine braking) and then i get a LOUD backfire (with flame) through the exhaust and then it keeps going.

its doing it more and more often now.

what should i check? seems ignition related since im obviously getting fuel during the no-fire bc its burning as a flame when it backfires through the muffler.

Mileage?

Mileage since last changing the spark plug?

Plug is my first, easy guess.

My old cx500 would start dropping a cylinder at wot when it wanted new plugs.

Fortunately, Blast spark plug changes are easy!

You have disconnected the evap charcol canister correct?

My first thoughts are (besides fifth gear-thanks EZ) is the kickstand switch and the ignition module. "More and more often" is classic ignition module failure, (but first bypass the kickstand switch).

Also make sure the plug wire isnt grounding against anything, its tight on the plug and that the spark plug tip (nipple) is still attached to the plug.

What air filter are you running?

Have you done anything (anything) recently to the bike?

Will it do it in any other gear?

And I've had iridium plugs fail in far less than 4000 miles!

Haven't decided to sell. It was just a passing thought. I didn't ride at all last year, and I don't think I put more than 1000 miles this year. I'm about to move to Alaska, and everything I own has to fit in a Jeep Cherokee and the biggest U-Haul trailer.

On a side note, Thanksgiving morning, I pulled out from a stop sign, and took a very aggressive left turn. I've done it thousands of times before, but that day was different. It was a cool morning, and so were my tires. Front tire decided it wanted to go in a direction contrary to normal operation. You guys know the rest. Bruised left arm at the shoulder, bruised rib, broken turn signal, scraped windshield, foot peg broken off the shift lever. I blame it on not riding enough.

I think you'd be lucky to get $1200. I picked up an 02 with 3k for $1000 last year.

And cold tires suck. : ( Which turn signal? I may have some spares soon.

Front left. All my signals have been taking a beating lately. Things got left on my seat last year, and even a small amount of weight on those signals for a long time breaks the stem. I have electrical tape and piece of a plastic spoon holding the rear right straight. Time to redo my LEDs, too. Seems I had them running right at maximum rating, so they've been burning out. Got a new circuit that'll make them last for a decade or 3...

You got me there, Gear. I LOVE doing the mods, just hate payin' for 'em! lol

The Blast has been an awesome project. Nothing cooler to me than seeing this diamond in the rough with all its potential just waiting to be unlocked.

Wait. Am I starting to wax poetic about a discontinued thumper? Yes. Yes I am. : )

Well.....It snowed....big time snow.....wet heavy snow....tree breaking snow

I'm hoping the Little Kid starts making some money with his tree business....

On the way home from work I saw a red Buell 1125R parked infront of a bar with snow on it, I'm thinking that guy is gonna have a little suprise when he steps out the front door of the bar. This snow came down hard and fast and is still falling.
