Irony . It was not lost on me today.

I know of a pretty decent BBQ spot with a nice deck on a fairly large pond that happens to be located on the same property of a HD dealership. We decided to meet the son there for lunch.

Also on the same property the HD Rider’s Edge training course was taking place. Pretty cool to see the students being put through their paces on a Buell Blast. I was smiling and thinking to myself the thrill and excitement that must have been present on that pavement as a rider completed a task, knowing that every step was a step towards endorsement. Soon they would know the thrill of the open road.

That’s when it hit me, the irony. Obviously the powers that be acknowledged that the Blast was a great bike to learn on and still is, yet it was not good enough to continue making available for purchase, they had to kill it. I know I’m beating a dead horse and I don’t want to stir up the pot again, but it just kind ticks me off that the red headed step child is good enough to show off out back while they make money from the endorsement class but was not good enough for the showroom floor. Every single time I take that bike out, at least once I smile to myself and think about how much I love it and so even now I still find myself wondering why and knowing it’s a shame that others will not have the chance to know and love the Blast like we do. That is unless they find that used gem out there.

The other crazy thing about all this is I went to the Non-Buell, H-D(spit) dealer, you know the one, they would not give you the time of day, no such thing as a Buell dealer? I went in there on an empty Saturday afternoon to see if they would not match up a fuel pump connector wire end. I knew it was a long shot, I was just expecting them to tell me no, and I was planning on begging and asking if they could match it up to a Road Couch with fuel injection, I was figuring it was a long shot and probably fruitless and a waste of my time but I had already went to a bunch of auto parts stores with no luck.
Anyways I walk in and one of the motorclothes girls yells "HI, HOW YOU DOING?" I'm shocked...I head to the parts counter and no one is there, so one of the motorclothes girls runs out back and returns with a parts guy. I start my shpiel and he askes for what bike and I tell him it's for a Buell, I know you don't have parts for them but maybe you could match it up to a H-D(spit). He just looks at me and says what year? I apologeticly tell him it is a 2008 but you don't have Buell parts, he asks what model? I tell him a Ulysses, he looks at the computer and asks what part was it? Now I am really confused, I'm thinking to my self this guy is going to tell me sorry find a Buell dealer, but no, he walks to the parts room and comes back with a box of electrical connector pins, and it's what I want? He only had one side and ordered the other side I pay, and then the next week lo and behold the guy calls me and tells me the parts are in?

I am now like WTF? WTMF? When Buell was in business, you guys wouldn't give me the time of day, wouldn't even admit there was such a thing as a Buell and now you can get any little part ever made? This is the best thing that could have ever happened to Erik Buell closing the Buell American Motorcycle Company, and unleash the Elves to do what they do best, to give them an opportunity to set up a real parts and service dealership network and allow him to be sucessful! We get the added benefit of now having the parts network that wasn't available when Buell American Motorcycles was actually in business.

My question is WHY? Why the hell didn't H-D(spit)(FU) do this in the first place? Why? What a bunch of ignorant bastards, self inflicted hurting bastards!

When you H-D(spit) start importing you Road Couches from India, and your "Core" customers catches wind to it, you are going to be doomed to oblivion, good luck, I hope you stupid bastards are progressive enough to sell the parts distribution network back to EBR Racing for a buck like you did for MV Agusta.

I have noticed better parts counter service for the Blast as well. I wounder if the dealerships are starting to take care of their RE the Blasts since they can't get any more and we are experiencing the a little trickle over.

Adamecs HD/Buell, Jacksonville, FL: I've had the Blast for the better part of 3 years, the X1 for two (sadly, now sold) & the Uly for 6 weeks. Adamecs have always had (or ordered) what I have needed & their service dep't is, IMHO, first rate. I haven't dealt with any other HD store but Adamecs have always come through for me.

We used to use the term "trained monkey" versus a "real" parts person.

My brother is a car/truck guy and he remembers part numbers like no one I've ever met. It was common for someone to bring in some off the wall part and he'd glance at it, look through a few catalogs to cross reference, and return with a part.

We've only had our Buells a year but worked on the Blast a lot in the beginning. It was hit or miss at the parts counter but most of the time they at least tried to help.
