This to all you California riders, wondering if anyone has been to the Joshua Tree Inn on 29 Palms in Joshua Tree?

Just wondered if it was still even open for business and then what kind of "luxury" accommodations one might find.

Long range plans for possible journey next summer. The direction/destination still up in air but I've always wanted to visit this little place of the world.

Thanks for your thoughts/quips/analysis...

While I know I've been by it several times, I dont have any facts except what EZ has already pointed out.
But if you like the desert and lots of miles of no cars, you'll like it. Frankly, I LOVE it! The only reason I dont see it (the desert, Death Valley, etc.) more often is that it takes a commitment to go out there as you have to cover a lot of miles to see much (though there is plenty to see). Sometimes just finding a motel/hotel open is the only choice you'll have and if you happen to go by when someone has booked the ENTIRE motel, you are SOL and it may be another 50-100 miles before there other accommodations.
If you have the cruising range of a Blast, you must plan ahead. The is NO GAS IN AMBOY (those who've been there get that little joke)!
Again, some of the best roads are not close to any gas stations and just because a town is on the map, doesnt mean that there is anything there (of any use).

Thanks guys. I am very much into music. My brother in law has written several songs about Gram Parsons. The Joshua Tree Inn was Gram's favorite (and last as it turned out) place. Being a sometime drummer of sorts, I have played some of his music and I've always wanted to take a pilgrimage to the famous Joshua Tree Inn and stay in Room Number 8 or maybe 9.

I imagine myself after a long day of riding relaxing in the courtyard with a bourbon and just watching all the stars...I am a dreamer and out there among the desolate beauty there is no better place.

Thanks for tips, will plan well (an extra stash of gas can be a lifesaver). I've been through Death Valley and fell in love with the peaceful beauty, cold in am, hot just moments later, it was cool.

Still in early stages of my where to go...

Yes, the JT Inn is still there...you can just look it up online yourself. Nicer than many, depending on which room.

Actually, there is gasoline available in Amboy, despite the joke.

True that there are sometimes long stretches without services, though.

Then they must have reopened the gas station there because every time I've been through Amboy its a ghost town! Have you been there recently and actually bought gas?

Datsaxman - thanks for the info. I had looked at their web page but you just can't ever totally rely on what you find out in the WWW. I was close to that area about 10 years ago, stayed in Lone Pine and cut across Death Valley to the east. It was amazing. My one regret was not making to Joshua Tree Inn.

I appreciate your responding. Food for thought...
