Nomar makes a home mechanic version of their tire changer, the cycle hill.
They even show the blast rear wheel on their changer.

Cool, will have to look Nomar. :-)

Side note, I put my order in for the Diablo's today, oddly enough I found the best prices through Amazon.com. How strange... :-)

Thanks for the jet info, EZ. I was being lazy and not doing the carb work, until I stopped at a rest stop a couple hundred miles from home. When I started the bike up, it backfired randomly and blew the freaking boot off the motor. Luckily, the superman boot appears to have escaped unscathed. I managed to get it back on enough to get the bike home.

Anyhow, I just put a 45 jet in, and drilled out the air mix screw and set it to 2 turns out like you suggested. The bike seems to be running a lot better now - it idled for 10 minutes in the garage after I reassembled it without popping once, idled nice and strong, and maybe it's all in my head, but the bike felt more peppy while riding it.

I do have one lingering question though. After the bike ran for a few minutes, I blipped the throttle a few times. If I opened it up, it seemed to hesitate in the midrange, almost like it missed once or twice, before it revved up more. It didn't do this once I drove the bike around and got it warmed up. Is this normal?

Thats just your choke shutting down and your carb adjusting accordingly, its a bit worse with the Yost tube, but its gone in short order, and lessens a lot if you let the bike warm up a minute or two.

Has anyone used anything besides the packing material from V&H to reach an SS2R exhaust? Is there any truth that steel wool can be used?

Never used steel wool, but any generic exhaust packing material will work, it doesnt have to be from V & H. I know some have used stove insulation.

Picking up a 2007 Blast P3 with 330 miles on her!

I'm driving 4.5 hours tomorrow to pick up a 4 year old bike(Blast P3) with 330 miles on her! Supposedly, dropped in the garage, so there is a scrap on her, but other than that, not even broke in.

I hope I can sleep tonight, it will be a long drive with a trailer!

I planned on changing both oils before even riding it, what do you guys think about a bike that has sat that long and factory oil?

The link for the manual is not working, can anyone point me to the manual(service hopefully)

330 miles? That sounds like Riders Edge mileage....

A full service, adjust the shifter pawl(Probably out of adjustment from being dropped)and a set of good tires and 5000 miles from now it will be broken in!

Welcome Daali!
Yes, changing both oils is a good idea BUT, wait until a) you have access to a repair manual b) start it up and ride it. Get it started, ride it and make sure nothing is wrong with it. Otherwise you wont know if you somehow messed something up when changing the oil. No, not complicated, but far too often people make the mistake of tearing into an unridden, unknown 'used' motorcycle and then finding a problem and not know where it came from.

Also, the oil should be changed when hot. It will also show bone dry on the dipstick (and in the frame) if the bike has sat for a long time (even a week). When in fact the oil may be full. USE CAUTION until you are sure it has oil. Just starting the bike should show oil in the frame, but only when the bike is fully (that means ridden a half hour at least) warmed up will it should the true oil level.

In short: start it up and put a few easy miles on it, 10 or 20 at least. If everything is okay, change the engine oil and filter.

There's two ways to change the transmission fluid. The repair manual way (which is a PIA) or "Swampy's way" which is much easier, but you will have to rely on trust in the the very simple instructions. BOTH are accurate.

FWIW: What usually happens with a bike that has sat that long is the pilot/slow jet gets clogged. If you have a problem, buy a new #45 jet (stock Harley slow jet on many Big Twins-should be in stock at the dealer) and replace it ($5-$10). Dont bother with trying to clean the old one as it needs to be replaced with a #45 anyway. So just in case there's a problem, dont panic! Its only got 330 miles on it, so there isnt much that can be wrong.
And please do not take the carb apart "to give it a good cleaning"!

Relax on the shifter pawl adjustment. He just got the bike. Tearing into the tranny on a new bike is just going to give him a bad feeling. I know many bikes that have been "dropped" multiple times and still shift just 'factory' fine.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the Thumper Forum Daali!

Gearheaderiko is correct, you can wait on the shifter pawl adjustment, you will find that the Blast does not shift anywhere near as precise as a Sportster, however you will find yourself riding it more often than the Sportster.

Tweak away then : )
Your Sportster friends will be saying "Wow, this thing really moves! How much horsepower does it have?"
The you can smile and say, 34.....
You might even get a convert or two!

PS Watch that front brake or you'll find yourself riding up on the tank!

Boy you guys are right on par with everything!

Title was bought with "New" from Dealership with 310miles, PO#1 24yo female, drove it 5 miles and quit. Sold to PO#2 who was supposed to take the MSF course, couple decided to divorce, it sat in garage. Hubby drove it 15 miles.

Would it be a rider's safety course bike and the dealer sell it as "New" on the title? or just a bunch of test rides before PO#1 picked it up not knowing any better.

Gas cap is stuck, had to take off the flange, and dremel it down a bit, the plastic has "swollen". Going to have to search posts and find the aftermarket, or fork over for a new one.

Gearheaderiko, almost lowsided in the grass right after I pulled it off the trailer with the front brake! lol I was lmao.

She is nimble, I need a different seating profile though, I feel like I am cannonballing!

That happens with the gas cap from sitting a long time. I pulled one apart to find the exact cause (and thus an easy remedy), but forgot what it is (but I think you'll find the fix). When stuck though, the 'locking' mechanism on top can strip out making it very difficult to get the cap off.

My first ride/test ride on a Blast I had just gotten off (literally) an AMF era Shovelhead. I smacked my nads on the tank pretty hard the first time I pulled the front brake!

Ditch the "baby ape" handlebars and she'll feel more like a real motorcycle and less like a scooter. Two stock seats are available. The tall and low seat. Used low seats are a dime a dozen, tall seats command a premium price. They are a little over $100 new though. Corbin is the way to go and coupled with a new set of handlebars the Blast feels like a 'big bike' !

This one has the low profile seat. Need to get the standard asap! Was riding on the passenger section on the way in this morning. lol. Nimble bike, makes my sportster feel like a monster.

Does anyone have a copy of the 2007 Service manual .pdf? HD took them down off the site =/

Thanks for the advice Gearheaderiko!

So the Harbor Freight wheels stands are on sale right now. $24.99. With the 20% coupon drops them down to $19.99.

The front fork adapter was also on clearance as well for $4.99. Not finding that online right now though. So for 25 you can get both. :-)

Odd, Concur with Milt. The repair manual will get you close, but since the bike bike has been abused, the "by ear" method will serve you better. If in doubt, go back to the manual and go to 12 flats. Or 16...
If the problem still persists, let us know. But the most likely cause is the chain is too tight.

I got my Blast Back up and running from my recent accident. All new (used) front end parts, forks, upper/lower tripple tree, axle, wheel bearings break rotor, handlebars. I put it back together with the best of my ability and today I took it out on a test ride. Below 20 mph there is a sway. Kind of a steady S pattern. Above 20 it goes away and everything feels fine. Also right turns feel a little strange at any speed but less at higher speeds. I am really really! hoping that the frame is not bent. It does not appear bent. My gut instinct says that there is an allignment issue on the front end. What can you guys tell me about this? For information on the wreck see the "From Blasted Heap to Blast" thread on the quick board. July 13

Check your tire pressures. Check your tires (esp' the front for any sidewall bulges)
Check your wheel alignment. (Use a board from front to back)
Check torque on front axle nut.
Did you put equal amounts of fork oil in each leg?
Check front brake pads aren't "binding" @ low speeds.
Check forks are aligned correctly in upper & lower triples.
That's all I've got!
