K&N air filter just came in today, do I just drop it in and ride, or is something else required like bracing the carb?

.. I thought you need to rejet the carb if you use anything higher performance than the stock paper filter?

Welcome Zeroeffekt!
I dont think that was exactly the question. EZ's the expert, but I dont think its necessary for just that change. You only have 3 choices anyway: 170, 175 or 180 mains. Shimming the needle couldnt hurt and neither could actually tuning the carb rather than just go by recommendations. In other words: the recommendations get you close, maybe even spot on, but results may vary depending on other factors.
At minimum you should definitely be at a 45 slow, 170 main (170 is stock except 2000 model which is a lean 165)
