Sure! Show up eight at 9th ave and Irving - we'll have introductions and coffee and go! I have rooms reserved at a Travellodge at SLO so if you want one let me know - the final cut for how many rooms I keep is wensday - it would be great to have ya - and you'd get to meet some serious Blastards - including Dallas from Arizona - and enjoy a great ride! Let me know!

Thanks for the offer and I will tag along one of these times, but I have to pass on this one, as I only have six days to get the XB ready for the first AFM race of the year. Have fun, be safe, and keep the rubber side down and the painted side up. ... BDG

I'll be riding from Waterloo Ontario to Lexington Kentucky then end of April (for a horse show) and I am really hoping to take a scenic route. If anyone knows any primo destinations, or ride routes, please let me know. This is my first time taking my bike south of the border, and well, except for a ski trip, it will be my first time south of the border (sheltered i know). so I really hope to make the best of it.

Rode my bike about 250 miles round trip this weekend and it marked the 1st time I've taken it on a freeway in a major city. I was glad that I was only on the freeway for about 20 miles, and the rest was rural highway.

I had a great time on the way there, but the 125 miles to get home in 95 heat with a 20mph head wind, no wind sheild, and the stock seat left me exhausted and my leg is still cramped up as I'm limping around work today.

As a sidebar, I went skydiving. 14,000 feet, freefall to 5,000 in 60 seconds at 120mph terminal velocity, then float back down 5,000 to ground in 3-4 minutes.

If you've never been skydiving. Imagine flying your motorcycle at 120mph. It isn't scary, and actually feels like the wind is blowing up so strong that it is supporting you and you're floating weightless. The ground is so far below, that it barly looks like it is coming toward you. It was awesome.

Longest time I done on a blast saddle was Orlando to Sarasota & back the same day.
About 2hrs 45mins each way including gas stops, the intake boot tore at the beginning of the second leg(around Gibsonton)but managed to limp to orlando H-D & get it replaced during bike week in 20mins! I've gone on shorter trips to New Smyrna,& Daytona. I want to go back to Ocala sometime if I can get someone to ride along. Saturdays are usually good!(sometimes Fridays)

Sorry I don't sign in and post much - guess I just have too much on my "to do" list. I may not post lots, but read whenever I can. Thanks to ya'll out there - lots of good info in here.

My longest distance: On a single day, left Macon, Georgia on US 129, to US 60 outside of Suches, GA and north on GA 5, TN 68 eventually ending in Sweetwater, TN - this was about a 545 mile day for me.

Distance for trip: June 1 - June 19, Florida to Northern Michigan and back. 4,221 miles. Pics www.whereismaggiemae.com

I believe the Blast is an awesome machine. My bike is a 2005 with 19,875 miles on it as of this moment. Looking to get as many miles out of it as I possibly can. Any opinion on how may miles is possible?

The Buell Blast - Sport Tourer? Yep IMHO it functioned just perfectly. Already planning the next tour...

Happy Trails

On a stock seat? Wow! Man you never let your Blast get cold! Its no wonder you never post.

JProvo has 40,000+ on his 2002, but he did have a cracked cylinder head (or bad guide or ?) somewhere in there.

I dont see any reason why 50k+ isnt possible (without an engine or tranny teardown), but unfortunately everyone I know whose put any kind of mileage on their Blast, tends to ride it a little hard. So thats gonna cut the mileage down.
Sadly people also get a few miles on their Blast and decide its time to 'move up'. So by the time a Blast gets significant mileage, it may already have had multiple owners, again dropping the potential mileage down.

Keeping riding like you are and you'll be the one to tell us how many miles are possible!

Hey Gearheaderiko...thanks for comment on website. As you can see I am very passionate about riding and even more so about the Blast. I have had bigger bikes but just love the Blast so much I don't see me wanting to trade up.

Stock seat? Well, kinda. I had a gel-pad inserted before trip. It was better but by no means perfect. Even though I get sore, I am having so much fun I just deal with it. I have thought about a Mayer seat before next summer. 50K here I come!

Love the pic of your Blast - where was it taken? Also - how do you mount your tank bag? I had thought about getting one, but most are magnetic or you have to strap them down. I thought it would be a pain to remove every time I need to gas up. Any tips are appreciated.

The low seat is comfortable, but my legs cramp up after 100+ miles. The tall seat is just not comfortable (nuff said)! The Corbin-ahhhh. See if you can find someone to trade seats for a day.

That pic was taken at my favourite place, Death Valley (CA). Go there in August and hallucinate without the aid of drugs. You'll know why they call it Death Valley. Something to experience!

The tank bag is a Tour Master TB-18 and will strap on using the same straps as the Buell Blast tank bag. Works well and holds a lot. Low handlebars will occasionally hit the off button on u-turns.It doesnt seem to be that big a deal to me to unclip it for gas, but I've heard others say thats why they dont use a tank bag.
I actually like the bag, its like having a fairing without having a fairing!

PS Being 'on the road' is very addictive isnt it?

Yep being "on the road" is totally addictive. In fact we returned home from Michigan on a Tuesday and after 4,221 miles all I could think of was unloading old gear and heading out again. By Friday I was on the road. If I could only find a job that had something to do with riding....

Death Valley - shouldda known. Last summer we rode (not on my Blast) from Florida to Montana through Glacier National Park, over to CA & down HWY 1 to just north of San Fran, through Nappa Valley, over the Sierra Nevadas, down through Lone Pine, CA and then through Death Valley. It was intoxicating. My website has those pics under Florida to California. I can't wait to take the Blast out there. We did the Iron Butt heading out. Next summer I plan to do the Iron Butt on my own bike.

Sounds like Themagster and I have the same idea. I just got back from a 19 day trip from Chicago to Colorado and back via the Black Hills. I spent about a week riding around in Colorado. My longest day was 500+ mi from Steamboat Springs, CO to Deadwood, SD.
Only two problems. The timing cover came
off on I80 on the third day. Yesterday, at a gas stop off I90 I noticed that the pipe cracked as it meets the muffler. I had the dealer in Sioux Falls weld it, but it failed again this morning. Otherwise, I had no problems, unlike the guy riding with me. His BMW F650 Dakar was had to be repaired four times.

Tires: Avon Tyres - At 5,000 miles I changed from stock to Avons replacing both front and back. I again replaced rear just before leaving for Michigan, it had just about 9,000 miles on it. I have not yet had to replace the front, which means that tire has about 15,000 miles on it. It still doesn't look too bad. I am very happy with the way the Avons handle. Great tire.

Joe - I was in Deadwood, SD last summer. In fact when we normally stay in any given place just one night - we loved Deadwood so much, we stayed two days. Would love to go back to that area and spend more time. I just had a friend move to CO - so I am looking forward to ride time there in the near future also. Sorry to hear about your bike - I am holding my breath. How many miles do you have on it?

BTW - Joe - what kind of seat do you have? In fact, anyone out there who puts 500 mile days in - I would be interested in knowing about seat modifications. I tried to have memory foam put on my stock seat and the guy pretty much destroyed the seat. I purchased a new stock seat and had the gel pad placed, it was better, but could still use improvement.

That's insane mileage out of the Avon! You must weigh about 65 pounds. I'm 160 and I only got 3,500 miles out of my Rear Avon when it was down to the wear indicator! damnit.

I don't have one, but I've heard that the Corbin saddle is the ticket.

I have the stock seat with a "Butt Buster" on top. I don't really get that sore, but I also stop every 100 miles or so. On the highway, my neck and shoulders get stiff from any kind of cross wind. I have a small GIVI wind screen which helps.
I replaced both tires before I left at 6000 miles. I had the shop in Sioux Falls replace the rear when they welded the header. I was at 11360 miles by then. That is with the stock Dunlops.
To tell the truth, after spending a week riding in Colorado, the Black Hills were a let down. There are some amazing roads on the west side of the Rockies. Rt 141 between Whitewater and Gateway is spectacular. So is
Rt 92 on the North rim of the Black Canyon. Plus all the high passes. The best two were Red Mountain Pass on 550 and Monarch Pass on 50.
We also did Cottonwood Pass and Kebler Pass which lead out Crested Butte where we spent most nights. Those are both unpaved, but they were hard packed gravel when we did them.

Well, on the trip that tire was nearly bald. I was either going to change it or load the bike on a U-haul. It was way below safe.
The first tire was mostly commuting.
