Im seriously considering selling this blast. I love the way it has handled when I have it on the road. The only problem is I have had it for almost 3 months now and its been on the road maybe 2 hours. The rest of the time it has been in the garage BROKEN! Im not trying to bash the Blast. Just this particular one. It wont get up to speed I have tried to adjust everything that I can and still nothing changes. It will run around town great but on the highway it tops at 55 mph. And today the clutch cable broke when i was reinstalling it. It broke the threads off in the case. I didnt even tighen it hard. I would love to just trade it for a different blast, one that works.

Sounds like the clutch was way too tight - wasn't your bike a basket case when you got it? LOL - a 2000 just needs all the bugs worked out, and a patient owner to do it, sounds like you still have issues with timing as well.

Its not the clutch I did get that straightened out properly its good. The primary adjustment Isnt doing anything either way I turn It. Its still making the same noises. The timing is easy enough to trial and error it into adjustment and I have it to where it doesnt sputter or kackle back through the exhast. That leaves the carburator and the spark plug. It may need a new spark plug even though the other one doesnt looked fouled. My suspision lies with the fuel system. A good healthy cleaning Is what I think it needs. It is the only thing that didnt get taken apart and inspected. I am a pretty good mechanic when it comes to following the manual and getting it back to stock but I tend to get impatient when its my stuff. The post at the top of the page was me venting lol... and I appologize. Everything in the primary appears in good running order except for the occational noises but the occasional noises are coupled with a temparary loss in power so I think that once I go through the Fuel system It will be resolved. At least I hope.

A spark plug is $6 for an oem replacement and you can probably find a better one for slightly more.

I had a neighbor do some work on my wife's blast while I was tied up with work and school. He wanted me to replace the ignition module and coil for $200+.

First the plug was bad. Once that was replaced I could keep it running long enough to see the needle jet was missing. The timing was adjusted an unknowing amount but with a little trial/error, I got it running like a champ (after adding the missing carb parts).

If you are going to replace parts, I always recommend starting with the most economical first.

Don't give up b/c once it is running, you will be extremely proud of your accomplishments, not to mention it will make all the regular maintenance easy.

Good luck,
Robert

That's too bad. On mine, not many miles, all I've had to do is slightly adjust the clutch cable, and it's smooth as butter at highway speeds with lots left in the throttle. I think you should stick it out, get everything straight, and you'll be a happy owner. A friend of mine has a 650 twin Jap bike and it is outdone by my Blast on the highway.

If I had more funds Id love to go with a Buell Lightning, or 1125 or any of the other bigger buells. Or a Ducati Monster but with my price range its a Blast or a 250 Ninja. Ya you can clearly see the better choice. Something about a screaming 250 in my ear thats not as comfortable and has about the same top speed just doesnt turn me on. lol... After I calmed down from my frustrations the other day, I realized its not that bad... lol

Alright I have updates. I purchesed the NGK Iridium plug for my blast to replace the stock one and I sent my carburator off to a harley carb expert in my home town. He informed me that the slow jet was 60% clogged. While he was in there I told him that I had an old blown out Kerker exhaust. He told me that that in itself would cause the bike to run lean with the stock jet. That coupled with the clog and theres no wonder why the bike wouldnt get up to speed and would sputter. So we put the 45 jet in as a replacement. I wont know until I get the carburator back. But for once I have a good feeling about this bike that has been an absolute nightmare.

When you buy a basket case, you have to go in knowing that there is a lot of work ahead of you, and that there is a learning curve as well. Basket cases are only for folks who have time and other means of transportation - lol - sounds to me though that you'll be riding soon enough! Just be careful our there.

Uhg. I know a lot of people like to modify theirs, and that is a hobby, but as for me I think it best to keep any vehicle stock stock stock, unless the mods themselves are your hobby. Most people have plenty of other time vampire hobbies. Working on a modified vehicle reminds me of this bit from The Onion:

Keep up my friend - he bought a stock basket case, put it together, still had issues. He may be an engineer, but not a carb expert. - lol

That's still some funny stuff though - gotta get me a Sony POS - sounds like the in thing!

Thanks EZ for the support. I have bought basket cases before and im pretty good with a quadrajet or an elderbrock carb but that little Harley carb was a different story... lol... I'll keep yall posted on whether the bike works or more shop time is required. Also I posted a picture of her on here in my profile. Check out my $30 custom paint job and tell me what ya think. Thanks again everyone.

Hey - nice bike paint job. That Kerker is killing you - but you can modify it later to actually perform. Relax - just saying you can't be a pro at everything, but otherwise your doing a damn fine job!
