EZ - Where can I get that iridium racing plug? American Sport Bike doesn't seem to carry it. They have the NGK, but I think I would rather run the Denso. I'm going to be doing some fluid changes this weekend, and was thinking about making the swap to the iridium plug as well. Any brick and mortar chains that may carry it?

Sparkplugs.com sells them and I got them pretty quick - here is the tech I answered in a regular KV thread on the product.

Whoa - you should have asked in the thumper section - lol - first NGK sells an Iridium plug, however, that number goes with the Denso racing iridium plug - best plug you can get your hands on for a Buell - so far - lol - that plug fits, should have red locktite on solenoid base just above ceramic, 1/8" leave rest of solenoid bare, screw on solenoid top, then install, do not use locktite on the threads, you can use anti-sieze - lol - do not gap - they come from the factory ready to install, and trying to check gap on them would probably screw them up - maybe - that would be 40 bucks blown - shipped from the factory in individual padded hard plastic cases - also the proper number is IXU01-27. It directly bolts in.

Syonyk - what handguards did you get? I don't have many cold riding days down here but hate wearing anything other than my usual gloves and they don't keep my hands too warm in winter. I'd rather just tough it out than use other gloves but handguards could be an option.

Themagster: I just put stock Lightning handguards. The ones I used were parts for an XB9SX, but I *think* the Uly handguards are the same. Either way, the Buell bits fit.

There's a PDF guide floating around here somewhere.

Well Twack, then you must go and tell me what I missed.

All my trips include Aerostitch gear: cover, dry bag, camera bags, computer bag, kick stand plate and most recently the addition of Kermit's Camping Chair.

Have fun and let us know how your trip was even if you don't make the garage sale.

Hi folks - needed to through this out there:
The New Gas has 10 to in a few states 30 percent alcohol in it now. What does this mean to you the Blast rider?

Just this - first forget regular gasoline, the bike is going to be harder to start with this gas, and on cold days it may not start at all. Stick to premium, it is necessary now just to preserve motor longevity. Second - expect you gas mileage to drop 5 to 10 miles per gallon, and that's for the ten percent gas/alcohol group, it gets worse as its alcohol percentage increases. Some of the old additives that worked in the pre-booze gas, do not work well with the booze type gas, it tells on your bike as a transient lean condition as a lack of power, most noticeable going up a hill - example the new Chevron primo with 10%booze good going up a hill in 5th gear, the Shell version of the same thing, different stations, had me down shifting, that's why I installed the DAJ. This new gas they are phasing in, is going to make it very hard on carburetor type vehicles - if nothing else - gas mileage is going to take a serious hit - be prepared.

"With the decreased fuel efficiency low-mid blends obtain in conventional and older vehicles, E15 may actually increase petroleum usage and cause unnecessary damage to gas-powered vehicles"

So will additives like Seafoam or Octane Boost be needed on a regular basis? If so how often? Every fill up, or every other?, or?....

From what I've read so far and experienced, gas mileage has dropped, its probably more noticeable on singles than the twins. The power the gas provides has dipped as well - according to some articles as much as a 20% loss, and we are talking about the 10% gas/booze mix, not the planned future of 15,20, 25, to 30% they have us aimed for in the future, the less mileage per gallon, the more they can sell - and screw the other affects the customer may experience because of the adulterated product they now sell. As long as your constantly running the bike on a constant basis, your ok - short term, but if your going to store the bike, add Seafoam to the last tank to clean the carb, and when almost empty drain the tank, line and carb. This boozy-gas is making a lot of gas powered machines difficult to operate as well. Carbs have a harder time because they have practically no compensation circuits happening compared to the FI folks, but when they step up the booze even more - that will have to probably be re-parametered as well.

Woo carb rejetting.

Bike appears stock - 170 main on a 2002.

I'm at 5000' with regular trips up to 7000-8000'.

The exhaust is stock, the intake is being ezblast modded.

44/165 still about right? This is for "Above 3500'" but I don't know for how far above.
