Hi Y'all- New to this part of the badweb, usually hang out in BB & D. Did a search here and did not find the exact info I was seeking, so decided to post here. Sorry if this is not the best place on the Thumper board. My neighbor has our old Blast, Buellah, an 05. When she was living with us, she unfortunately got ridden less and less as we added more bikes to the fleet. She has slightly more than 3000 miles. He has been using her as a daily commuter, thinks she is fun as hell, and loves the fuel economy. However, after she warms up and the auto enrichner drops the idle down, she will occasionally rev back up to auto enrichner rpm levels at stops. Sometimes the revs last for a while, sometimes they drop back immediately. Questions: 1. How would we troubleshoot to see if this component is faulty? Any other things that would cause this warm engine revving behavior? 2. I did read about this component failing and not being too expensive to replace yourself. Can someone please post some schematics? 3. Is there a fix that can be done without replacing the component? Thanks a bunch. BeLinda (former owner of Bright Blue Buellah) | ||

Thanks for the responses and for teaching me something new today. Should hang out here more often. Will give it a shot and will also try to get my neighbor to spend some more time here. He's lurked a couple times and was amazed at some of the modifications. And, wow, wonder how many Riders Edge bikes I've seen that could have run better if I'd known about das boot! Thanks again. Alright- Just back from the neighbors getting an overview of the teardown of Miss Buellah. The intake coupler appears to be in decent shape, neighbor still believes it is the enrichner that is faulty, but is willing to replace das boot. He is looking to buy a service manual but in the mean time is struggling to get the gas tank off in order to get a better look. He knows his way around a motorcycle, has had bikes most of his life and has worked in different jobs at shops and raced them back in the day. Is there an easy way to pull the gas tank off to get a better look at the carb? Thanks for your help! BeLinda | ||

remove seat, remove screw holding the tank cover down, removed dipstick and o ring remove tank cover turn off the gas and remove line remove both black rubber things at the front of the tank lift the rear of the tank first and then remove tank | ||

Remove rubber sleeves, and fuell line, tank cover - done - visa versa - lol! EZ | ||

Thanks for the info, all. Suspect his life will be much easier once he gets the shop manual. He has no internet access at his house at this time and is working some bizarre/inconsistent hours so this is a great help to him. This is prolly just the beginning of the work he wants to do on this bike. From the little time he has spent lurking here, he's developed a list of modification ideas. Personally I'm very excited and holding out hope that his knowledge with this bike will eventually be a big help to us when we have the time/budget to finally do a track day. My thoughts are another used Blast would be the best fit for us to set up for a track day. BeLinda. | ||

Happy to report the gas tank is off. Thanks! Das boot and enrichner out of stock at this dealer but on order with anticipated arrival date of Monday. Parts guy said there has been a run on da boots, eleven of them recently. None sold by that dealer for weeks, then BAM-high demand part. Wassup with that?!  . The dealership should know by now that every spring there is a run on Da Boots. The auto enricher is never going to be stocked bc it doesn't go bad that often. | ||

He also asked something like "how many of you (meaning Buell and or Blast riders) are there out there?" True, we are not as common as hog riders, but we are not that rare either. | ||

Ya I have seen a few Buells in my area. A lot of college students like them because of thier sporty look and deep throaty sound. Thats why I was drawn to them. When I went to pick up my parts they actually had a brand new buell blast sitting on the showroom floor. Its my first day of my new job and I got my blast for a commuter bike but its supposed to rain all week, BLAH! Good Luck with everything | ||

MotorcycleGear.com (formerly NewEnough) had some one piece rainsuits for $40. If you're commuting in an area that gets rain, a rainsuit is definitely worth the money. And "How many of you are there?" is a better response from a HD employee than the one I got about our Blast... "It's a nice toy... I mean, it has the power of a wet mouse fart, but it's a nice toy." He shut up after I said we'd put 2k miles on it in the last month and a half. I didn't feel the need to point out that, power to weight ratio-wise, it's actually not that far from some of the "Real Motorcycles" he sells... | ||

Uh, yeah. I've lent my Blast out to a friend whose 2009 1200 Sportster is in the shop. "man, this thing is quick" is what I believe he said. LOL! Not the first time I've heard that either!!! | ||

It doesnt rain that much throughout the summer in missouri. And i dont wanna carry too much with me to work. Its an hour one way. And to me an hour in the rain doesnt sound fun. But I will probably get some rain gear at some point. And the only place that I have had fun poked at the blast is when I got it inspected. The biggest guy in the shop pulled it in and they were making fun of the bikes size compared to him. But the harley dealership I deal with said only good things about the blast | ||

My dealership is tired of my students coming in after a Riders Edge class and asking if they have any new Blasts. When told no, they ask if there any used ones in stock. When told no, they sit on a Sportster and say, 'this doesn't feel as good. Better it won't do the box like the bike I practiced on.' | ||

Tried to steer them towards Harleys. And I understand that somewhat, given profit margins and all. But, give the people what they want, and you will make up for it in volume. Reminds me of when I wash shopping for new Frogg Toggs. Went to a booth at our local bikefest, tried on a few things. Liked one jacket, wanted to pair it with pants other than the ones from the set. The sales guy said "we have people asking all the time if we can mix and match". Well, if that is what the demand is, change the way you sell things and accommodate your customers. DUH! |
