One of my car club (WRXs) guys is selling his blast, and I am thinking of picking it up for the lady as a first bike. He is looking to pick up a firebolt or lightening.

Ad details:
As you can see from the images, this is no longer your standard Buell Blast. I cut off the rear seat, painted an actual Streetfighter on the tank (Hadoken!) and removed the front/rear fenders. There are other small things that can all be seen below. It has an aftermarket intake and exhaust, has drag bars (comes with original bars.), has an integrated tail light. It also comes with a box'o stuff that is a mixed bag of the original parts. I have a jet kit for the carb., but i haven't even opened it; it comes with the bike. This bike was a learner bike, it is a 500cc single cylinder and I have outgrown it. The bike is far from perfect, but starts and runs on the first push of the starter every time. Has approx. 16,000 miles on it. This bike is not for everyone and the price is negotiable. Has brand new oil, oil filter, rear tire and spark plug. This bike is absolutely loads of fun to ride, I get plenty of questions/comments on it when I'm out, it is the easiest thing to ride and is an excellent first motorcycle.

So, I am XB12R guy, therefore, what do you think I should look for when taking a look at this bike tonight? It looks pretty sharp, obviously not a typical blast. The lady likes it. Price seems great ($1000)

I dont see what year it is. That will tell more what to look for and if $1000 is really a good price.
It has good parts on it, but a motorcycle is only as reliable as the last person that worked on it. If you're capable, then consider it. If you're not, look for a bone stock Blast with low miles.
When it rains and even when it stops, she's going to get a good soaking on that bike!!!
You can look to see if the headlights are cracked (usually in the middle where they join). All the stuff I usually look for as telltale signs of problems are gone!!!
Look to see if the muffler is hammered on the bottom.
The headlight is also a straight plug in. Make sure it isnt all badly wired.
The other stuff like jetting and primary chain adjustment you'll go through after buying it.
What tires are on it? Dunlops are bad: (

....Did I mention she's going to get soaked if it rains?

Oh - another thing, it has a stainless steel braided front break line - that means either get a fork brace or revert it back to the rubber line - otherwise the front and back may want to switch sides braking in the rain. Put a fender on and make sure it idles, starts, stops, breaks and goes, and no oil leaks.
Have fun!

Sorry you missed out, but then again I think you're better off. There are plenty of low mileage (under 5000 miles), stock Blasts still out there. A few probably still on showroom floors (in the corner)!
