last week i finished the EZ air stack and filter, along with 45 slow jet and 170 main jet.

The blast use to pull all the way up to 100mph no problem, and at that time there were two people on it.

Yesterday i was on the interstate for a change (by myself) and figured i would stretch the blast out for a change.

Once I reached 5th gear I held it at full throttle for a good 2 miles and about 75 the speedo just started creeping it finally topped itself out about 82mph and that was all she had in her.

Any good explanations or ideas?

95 is your top speed without changing the gearing to a 2000 Blast which can go to 100.
Primary a tad tight is the usual suspect, did you recently adjust the primary? also winter gas or low octane gas will leave you struggling, steep grades will also slow you down - cold winter days give plenty of oxygen for top speed runs, hot days not so much. Pick a nice level area, make sure the fuel is fresh and your primary is a tad loose - then give it a go.

to be honest the primary still has the factory adjustment plug in it.

The "05 Blast engine that was put in the bike only had 200 miles on it, and i was informed that the plug should stay until the first service. Is this correct in your experience?

Now that i think about it the weather was alot cooler the day that me and my wife were on it and it pulled to 98mph, i dont have any kind of corrector on the speedo, so im not sure what the margin of error is in the stock speedos.

My Vtx had anywhere from a 5% to 10% variance in actual speed versus speedo reading.

thanks for the response EZ

p.s. - does your bike mist a little bit fuel back through the carb on w.o.t. runs? I didn't notice anything until i got home and i saw an oily looking spot on the side of the seat, it was fuel that i can only imagine came from going w.o.t.

That could also be oil - a bad grommet - check that line that used to go to the air-box and follow it, that filter would pool the gas and then it would slow leak out - learned from fixing the float - lol - the only fuel I ever get is the chuff/honk on shut off.

Adjust the chain for sure.
Remove the stack filter and see what happens.
Far too often people have problems with the stack filter set up because they used the wrong filter (whether they ordered the right one or not, they have gotten the wrong one). Also people have modified the stack filter or used more than one, therefore causing more problems. If you remove the stack filter an the problem goes away, you know what the problem was.
You might also be a little on the lean side with the 170 and no shims on the needle (imagine me saying too lean-LOL!).

Lastly-Where's your knee? Everybody's knee hits in a different spot and for some its directly over the stack (or air inlet opening). That will cause problems.

Make sure you were in 5th not 4th....the rev limiter is a really smooth let off in 4th and you think wow, something is wrong.

I guess i forgot to mention i did shim the needle with 2, #4 washers from radio shack washer assortment pack.

My knee has hit the filter quite a few times, and caused the bike to fall on its face, so i did make sure i had my leg pulled away from the carb when the bike stopped pulling.

I was actually looking at it thinking i might put some kind of visor on the stack, via the hose clamp, just to have a reference that my knee is too close.

Let me know what happens when you pull the stack filter off.

I will do it tomorrow morning and then take it for a ride.

I've been on the big buell the past couple of days, so the blast has been put up.

I was sitting here at work and i remembered i have a pic of the stack filter, and you can see directly through it. Not sure if this helps your idea any, but here is a pic of it.

Yupper - yet filters .025 - keeps the junk out, and though gas will leak out, you'll see it pooled up behind the filter as well - the other types filter .005, however, those are too restrictive for a Blast.

pulled filter off, ran the bike and there is no change.

Guess i will have to rethink passing on the interstate with the blast, but it is great for around town.

I do need some drop pegs though.
both my self and my wife feel very cramped in the legs when either of us ride it.

thanks for the suggestions to the top speed issue.
