Minor low seat mod, simplified:
Remove staples with a knife or thin screwdriver. Careful not to cut the cover.
Pull back cover.
Cut foam on seat to desired profile. An electric carving knife works well, as well as the appropriate 'hot knife'. I used common hack and wood saws.
Replace cover. I used an electric Arrow brand stapler from Home depot with 1/4" staples. 25% of the staples wont hit home.

The other seat I did was a tall seat where I removed about 4" of foam and replaced in with heavy duty carpet pad for a much much firmer seat. I used duck tape to hold it in place and crush down the remaining soft foam rubber. No pictures: (
My guess is others here will display their own ingenuity. This should help get you started.

I'm half-way thru doing mine, will get pics and full description when I'm done. I'm using Sargent's foam, they'll sell for DIY. Also replacing the vinyl, found some "carbon-fiber" vinyl in a dark grey.

I tend to ride pretty far forward on mine. Anyone added anything to the foam on theirs to make it more comfortable?

I did the exact same mod to a spare low seat I had...it still ended up shoving me up to the tank because there isn't enough foam in the front of the seat...but yours looks better than mine did...I think one of the problems is that the stock foam is too soft...

I'm looking to buy one of the low Blast seats, and see there is one selling on eBay. Someone has placed a bid of $65 and I do not wish to against a member of this site. Anybody care to claim that bid?

PS $65 is top dollar for a low seat, $100 is the price, new. Often, people cant give low seats away!

Thanks for the offer, Harry, but I just ran down to the HD in Bloomington and picked up a new one (had a $25 off coupon burning a hole in my wallet). Looking forward to trying it out later today!

Does one of the stock seats show off the vertical body work (back end of tank)? My seat currently covers this up, but I really like the look where it is exposed.

Low seat. Tall seat wraps around the tank.

How much lower is the low seat? I'm about six feet tall, using the stock bars and rear sets. Will I be all cramped up with the low seat?

Yes, you will be cramped, of course that may depend on which style of rear sets. Street style or race style? Street style the pegs are the same height as stock. Race style they are 2-3inches higher (those will definitely be cramped).
The seat mod pictured above would help and I do know there are some tall guys running the low seat, but I'm not so sure with rearsets (Badweb member 'Naustin' might have).
You could get a low seat made taller .
Rear sets and stock bars. That makes me think really cramped.

I believe I have the stock rear sets. The way it's set up now I really don't feel that bunched up, but my last bike was really small, so maybe it's just relative.

Thanks

Any possibility of just cutting off the front end of the high seat to expose the tank back end?

I'm a 5'4" woman. I have the Crossroads engine-mount rearsets on my Blast. I tried using the low seat, and it was way too low and cramped for me. I can touch the ground ok with the normal seat anyway, but it would have been nice to have the extra leg leverage of the low seat. It's just not practical with the rearsets, though, even for a little thing like me!

I agree, rearsets and low seat is tough, I'm doing it now. Have homebrewed rearsets, about 1" higher than stock. I am in the middle of reupholstering my high seat so I threw the low seat on. However, if you sit on the back part of the low seat, works great with rear sets.

Ylwblast: I dont see any reason why you cant cut off the front of the seat. Both seat pans are almost identical except for the wrap around part and the 'fabric' is easily stapled back on.

My tall seat is on its way to the racetrack: ) so I cant compare the two at the moment to see any possible problems.

I think I might try to modify the high seat. I mean, if I really screw it up it's only about $100 for a new one, right? See below for my MS Paint mock-up. (MS Paint, only the best!)

Okay, so i finally got some time to play with my bike and decided to modify my stock high seat like i had mentioned above. The pictures below basically tell the story, but here's a brief summary. First, I undid the staples along the front and front sides of the seat and pulled back the fabric. Next, I cut the "wings" off the seat sing a small hand saw. As I was doing the second side I realized that cutting flush with the main underbody of the seat is the easiest way to get it right. Next i used an electric knife to make rough cuts of the foam and drywall sanding screens to contour and smooth out the foam. A metal file was used to smooth out the plastic of the seat pan where I cut and make sure it was a straight line. After applying a little spray adhesive I put it all back together.

After the first cuts
After the first cuts

All buttoned up and ready to go

Looks like a completely different seat

On the bike - Sweet!

A view from above - the hardest part was getting those side contours to match the bike

Some random instructions for installing a "gel pad'. Might be helpful for seat modifications not necessarily installing a gel pad.
http://knoplace.com/Gel_Pad_Installation.html

My experience is that a "gel pad" makes a real difference on a very hard seat (such as a lowered or 'race' seat). I dont think it would make much difference on a soft seat.

I'll dye it black, water proof it and seal it, when the dye arrives, no biggie - right now I'm pimping - lol, and I hear snake skin is tough!
Need to modify it to fit better as well, but I know those tricks! - got it for a mega low price - to me a good deal, and giving that poor Corbin a home and a make over is no problem!

Sure just like black snakeskin boots - why? - you guys actually like it in white? Perhaps a mistake on my part? - lol - I figured folks would think it was gay looking cause it's white on a black bike, now if I had a white Blast - lol, it would be fine!
