The standard answer for all problems Blast: check the boot.

Concur! lol!
Smoking is normal for it backfiring through the carb. Definitely check the boot. A bad boot will cause backfiring and backfiring will cause a bad boot!
You may have to take the boot completely off to see the crack.: (
Thats the place to start.

Okay I kept reading about the boot issues but wasn't sure if it affected all blasts or just older models. I have a 2006.
I guess I'll just replace it as I read it can be tricky to see the cracks and if they can be problematic it'll put me in the clear for the future.
I'm not sure where to get one though? A harley dealership? What about the ebay blast custom intake booth guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619&item=130450986281&vie witem=&category=35574#ht_500wt_1182
Anybody have experience with those?

Thanks for the help

A Harley/Buell dealership or the above Superboot. Quite few here run it (its made by Badweb member Dan aka "Thumpe").
If you're running a stock airbox the Superboot is a bit overkill, but it should certainly never fail!

Boot pt# 27443-00Y

All 2000-2010 Blasts are almost identical. Very few changes were made and 99.9% of the parts are interchangeable.

Good to know. I'll just go with the OEM boot then since it looks like this one is overkill.

I use rubber intercooler piping from something like an eclipse for my boot. works amazing, strong, and cost cheaper then dirt

Yes - and without the positive stops built in, it will sooner or latter - depending on the clamps - vibrate back off - look at the general design of the interior of a stock boot and you'll see whats missing from your piece of hose. However, if you don't mind checking and re-tightening your boot often, then it will work, always make sure the rubber you use is fuel resistant or you are sending rubber and other contaminants into your motor and carb.

Now i see what your saying EZ but the fact is that ive worked with turbo charged vehicles for a long time. ive had my intercooler hose on my blast for 2,000 miles without having to retighten it or having it back off at all. the lip thats on the manifold and the lip on the carb help hold it on even without a rubber lip. if your really nervous about it you can go down to napa and get 2 Tclamps and the rubber hose will never come off. in my eyes the stock boot is massivly over priced for what it is and no offense to anyone but the super boot is rediculously expensive. This is all my own opinion and how i see things. im sure this would probably be a different case if you have an aftermarket intake without any kind of support and your only counting on the boot to hold everything up

Hey guys, I just got a new belt for my Blast, I ordered the standard .01A7 belt, the box is labeled it, but the belt inside is much wider, like an XB belt, and it has no part number indicated on it. Is this how they are all coming now?

G0500.01A7 - is the correct number, and as far as I know - it hasn't changed.

Besides fuel build up reversions, its doable, flat track racers been doing it, but then they don't have too far to go - lol - but I have run the the turbo coupler sold by Laura and it did crack on me down the road, and it slipped out twice as well, so I went back to regular. The reason the Super boot costs so much is that first a new stock boot must be modified, then the clamp has to be trimmed and modified to fit - it does not come that size - I know - I've hunted for one myself - with the labor involved - that becomes a very good deal - though if your just running a stock intake, a regular boot and clamps should last at least 2 years before needing replacing.

Froggy. The part number is usually printed right on the belt. A wider belt wont fit on the front 'sprocket'.
Did you count the teeth?

My DSLR is charging, so this will have to do. There are 0 markings on this belt. I didn't count the teeth, but eyeballing this shows it to be the same size as my broken stocker.

I lied, I found a marking, its almost impossible to see, it is a HD logo, and "019Y"

135 teeth.

I guess I'd be stating the obvious, but its certainly not for any Blast. HD lists the pt#94019Y as a sprocket recall kit, but that doesnt do you any good either : (

Badweb sponsor Precision Harley. Eitehr post up on their section or send Tripp a PM.

My garage is freezing and my 1125R is only an inch away from my Blast, so I will have to dig it out later to see if this thing fits or not. I am afraid to open the box for the sprocket kit, it feels heavy for plastic!

I can assure you, it will not fit. Even if you cut the belt in half it would still need 139 teeth. Seal it up and send it back!

The Blast rear sprocket is metal. If that has a part number it should be: G0420.01A7

Be careful. There's some sort of oddity going on with part numbers. I ordered a belt and the part number that came back brought me a front belt sprocket. They sent it back and then the belt came.

The stock belt, by the way, is stupid-easy to put on. So easy a Rainman can do it.

Yea but it is kinda hard to put on if you can't find a T27 to remove the front pulley cover. I have 25 and 30, but my 27 is MIA. : (

Yep, the new sprocket is metal, and so is my old one. the plastic cover that goes over it threw me off.

well i discovered another problem with how i put the motor back together. The o rings at the top of the push rod tubes are not in the correct place and oil leaks down the cover. Is there a way to fix them without pulling the head?

I though about using some of the case sealant to seal between the push rod tube and the head.

I didn't know if pulled the push rods, if i could wiggle the tube out, without pulling the head. I could buy 1 set of collapsible push rod tubes and cut the oem tube out.

Cut it out and go with the collapsibles and you'll never make that mistake again!
I can see it being possible to wiggle it out, but you'd never get it back in (obvious).

PS I've never had the collapsibles leak and they are very tight!

Hey guys,

I only got one key when I bought the bike and almost lost it the other day, so I figured it was time to make some copies ; )
The locksmiths I went to couldn't do anything because they don't have the proper blanks. I saw somewhere on here that one option is to just get the blank off of ebay and go to the locksmith with it. I'm looking at this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buell-Motorcycle-Ke y-Blank-/310115588812?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accesso ries&hash=item4834545acc#ht_748wt_1167

Is that the way to go? Or is there another way like just going to a harley dealership for instance?

Cheers

You can order a pair of brand new keys from your dealer for something like $20, all they need is your VIN.
