im just curious as to what a hot cam would do on a basically stock bore sized engine?

of course accompanied by the proper jets, k*n and custom pipe.

I cant tell you horsepower, but I can tell you it will move the powerband up to the higher rpms. You'll need an ignition as well because I dont think those cams produce peak hp until after the stock redline of 6500 rpm. Stock bore will still scream! You'll of course need headwork too to make those cams even fit.
I dont think that specifically answers your question though.

And better valve springs.

A wise friend of mine once asked rhetorically

quote:

Why do I spend so much time taking a nice bike and making it into an ill tempered, hot running, hard to start hand grenade?

BS - and contact Crane Cams - they are back in the ignition business.

However, there is a cam - one I plan on switching to that has great lower end is the SE530 cam - a tad less lift than the 550, however, better hp and torque in the bottom and mid-range - similar to the B70 but even more bottom, since it was a Sportster designed performance cam, with the top end peaking out around 7000. This cam with a few other goodies looks to be the best bet - the B70 similar but a tad more aggressive at top. I feel though that because the Blast is a single and that since its top end will never be superbike awesome, that the real benefits for the Blast would be to work on strengthening its bottom and mid-range so that it can get to its top end quickly - that explaining my reasoning for my choice of cams. Now with Crane Cams back in business with their Ratio Rockers - 1.75 and ignitions, making all the rest of their toys as well - options become even more interesting. Thank goodness for their investors recognizing a great group of products!

Ezblast is right on TUNING for where you ride ...

You can have a lot more "FUN" with your BLAST ...

On my BIG BUELL "i" dropped the RPM's 375 RPM's and got more HORSE POWER/"TORQUE" ...

When you leap away from someone coming out of a corner, IT IS IMPRESSIVE !!!}

The old SE Sportster/Buell 530 cam - a great cam, more power than the 550 - barely, but also delivering much healthier torque numbers - which makes it really impressive and there is room to run the ratio rockers to develop even more power - all bringing you to a little under the safe ceiling of a 580 lift cam with better aspect ratios than the various 580 cams that are all about top end.

The question about Crain is will they now continue to make ignitions for Blasts as they did in the Past?

thats what IIIIIIIIIIIII really want to know, because with better ignition and raised rpm limiter, cam options open significantly

Cometic wont fix that. Something went wrong with your assembly.

Let us know if Crain gives you an answer, especially if it is a "bolts right on" ignition : )

the dealership only had one gasket, and it had a crease in it, i was weary of using it but it was all i could get my hands on locally. it blew out right on the left side :/

sounded pretty funny tho, like a quacking duck that was getting prodded with a hot poker

Yes, it is a Sportster gasket: ) Part #16770-84F is the latest number I have, but a 16770-84D or 84E will work just fine too. Per the information I have the 84E & 84F does NOT use the dowel O-rings. The 84D definitely does.
The head gasket should include the O-rings if it needs them. American Sport Bike should know and I'd ask before they send they you the gaskets (just in case they arent included and should be).

The 84 at the end of the part number shows about what year the gasket was first used/designed. Its been around a long time! Its also the number you'll find listed for Blasts and XB's
