So I just bought a 2000 Blast about a month ago and have been riding since with no major problems. But there is one thing that concerns me. I've noticed that there is what looks to be oil leaking out of the air box. I opened up the air box and it looks like some oil, or whatever it is, got on the air filter too and there is some in the box too. The only other peculiar thing that I notice on occasion is that sometimes I can feel some type of a pop coming from the air box. I'm not sure what it is or what it's from but that's the best i can explain it. So basically I'm just wondering where the oil or whatever it is is coming from and how to stop it if it's a problem? Maybe it's just an overflow from when I topped off the oil but it seems to come even when I haven't added any oil.

Any help would be awesome.

Welcome Munchtime!
Normal! The airbox will fill up with a small amount of fluid (gas/oil/condensation). There are a few remedies, but its normal.
The 2000 model runs lean so the carb jets should be changed to 45 slow/170 main. If it still continues to "pop" after that you'll need to look at some other minor things.

From the "just in case you didnt know" file:
*Check the oil when hot and only add a little at a time (4 ounces or less). Between the lines is good enough. Checking when cold will make you think you're very low on oil, but it may be full.
*The popping may be caused by a leaking intake boot ("Das Boot") and it may also cause a leaking intake boot. "Das Boot" is the Blasts Achilles' heel. So keep an ear out for any signs of overheating (knock & ping or run-on, etc) until the popping is fixed or the boot is checked.

PS "Swampy" is your local Blast expert', but I dont really know how close in MI he is too you!

Alright thanks a lot for the input. I've been reading a lot about that intake boot and it sounds like its the cause of most problems. I've read a lot about re-jetting too and that sounds like where I start I've just been hesitant to start because I've never done any carb work before but it looks like I should be able to find enough guidance here.

Welcome to the Thumper forum Munchtime!
I am in Lansing, not too far from Kzoo.

What Gearheaderiko has told you is right about the oil buildup in the air box and lean running Blasts. If you need help let me know.

Hey thanks for the welcome and the info!

What is sounds like what I am going to do is replace the boot anyway because its a ten year old bike and I have no idea if its been changed. And I'm going to tackle the jet issue as soon as I get the time. I also want to get the breather tubes (that's what I think they are called) away from the airbox somehow because they are getting cut into. And I've checked the links posted here in a couple spots but can't seem to find the tutorials...

I also read somewhere about that "epa" thing in the airbox, the nozzle that sucks for some reason? What are the benefits of spinning that around?
