OK....RIDE REPORT!

I took the Uly...Sorry....but I have pictures!

What do you want to see first the Blast with the XB bits or the Factory tour?

OK, the XB outfitted Blast it is.

First off the guy who built is is from Minnie-soter...unfortunately in my old age I forgot his name, I am sure he will post here and scold me.

Ready?

Set?

OK here goes:

b

2

unfortunately is was night out so it was dark out...

And the guy that owns it, he's a machinist don't ya know?

3

Some particulars...
A CR rear pulley, the from pulley is stock and widened by cutting the outside flange and adding spacers, using an XB belt there is no way the belt would be over worked by the Blast.

Rainy daytime pictures at Hal's:

hal

fuel

OK, XB wiring harness, XB computer, XB fuell injection system, rear flange on the intake was welded shut, he's a machinist ya know? There is a metal box under the intake and injector, that houses the fuel pump, I believe it is an automotive style, so the real fuel tank fills the small supply tank and the fuell pump is inside the small metal tank to pressurise the fuel injector.

OK saved! now...things I didn't take pictures of... the CR pulley, worked up to fit on the rear wheel, the home made rearsets using a square tube mounted infront of the kickstand bracket.

5

You can see the pulley widened with a spacer, no extra teeth...LOL Still only stock but he is claiming 70 MPG or better riding it hard.
The upper shock mount was fabricated with flat stock welded to the side of the backbone, he just put it in there and mounted the shock at the same swingarm angle as his XB was. Also the seat was attached to the shock bracket as the flat stock was extended rearward for the seat. Why a motocross seat you might ask? Well he just yanked it off his Yamaha sitting in the garage before he left.

6

The fellow that owned it was allowing people to ride it, you know the old saying, "nobody will admit to doing it but it sure was fun"
The fuel injection mapping was fine, the handling was fine, it just needed a little more power as it was a stock motor(other than the XB injection system)and it felt very much like a Blast, it had the familiar rear vibration or bumpinb feeling just like a Blast. It was night out, I am deer paranoid so I didn't floog it but I did run it through the gears and I think I want to do something like that in the future...

OK, here's my story and I am sticking to it...

Hopefully others have posted the rest of the factory pictures, these are mine of the Blast assembly line. I was told by the guide they don't allow Blast line tours, nor do they allow anybody behind the yellow tour lines, however....on the 26th all the rules were.....so officially I broke the rules and security threw me to the curb. There are 4 people that work the Blast line, it is in towards the very back of the factory(Wouldn't you know) There is an area in the plant that is called the"Hospital" where reworks are done, you know, scratched parts are removed and replaced, things like that, when I went there there were no Blasts being assembled but the floor was filled with hospital bikes, they must have had the H1N1 that day!

line1

Me standing next to a rack of Blast fuel tanks

2

Me standing next to a rack of tail section covers

3

Me standing next to a bunch of boat anchors, they must do alot of fishing in East Troy. Notice I had my rain gear on, it was raining there you know?

4

And the 64 millin dollar question....what are these? Hint, the installation and removal tools are visible in the box...

5

And the absolute highlight of the day was meeting Erik Buell himself, what a genuine nice guy, signed on the X of my tee shirt, talked with me about my beautiful girlfriend and her Uly and the best I could do is muster up this stupid smile!

8

The bag laying on the table was a tee shirt I had made up for Erik, hopefully he remembered it.

The employees I talked to after work are just beside themselves about how great of a company it was to work for. They all were proud of what they contributed to the company and just genuinely loved what they did. One woman I talked to says she is taking time to go to Key West for a while. Others just don't know yet, it is like they are just numb, but not really bitter, just numb.

Muller clutch pull installation moved here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/165289.html
A brief write up of installation (easy, complicated, tools, etc) and use would be nice. Simple or elaborate if you have the time. Part #'s would be nice too!
Thanks Damnut!

for the superblastard,
i wounder if the baker 26tooth front pulley would reduce the final drive ratio to closer to the blasts and i think it is the correct width for his belt.

Thanks for the pics and story Swampy. Glad you could represent 'us', envious you got to go.

Dont feel bad, I've met Erik too. Couldnt do much more than smile either!!!

Telling Erik what great bikes he built is a little like telling Jimmy Page great guitar work. Words fall short of the truth.

Okay I just wanted the be the first to post on Nov. 1st. Hi Ya'll!! EZ since you have both, do you think the 1125CR headlight assembly would bolt on to the Blast? Just curious as to how it would look.

Looks like my earlier post did not go thru. EZ I was wondering if you think the CR Faring and Headlight assembly would fit the Blast?

If any one is interested in the "super-blastard" build it can be found here:
http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.ph p?t=9228

If anyone has any questions pm me or ask in that thread. I don't use this site much, I don't agree with a lot of the things that go on here.

Thanks Matt

Hi all, I have made up a map on Google Maps to list the dealers continuing to support Buell. The list is based entirely on reports from Buell riders. If your dealer is not listed and you know they are going to continue to provide parts and service, post below so they can be added. Anyway here is the map, be sure to bookmark it for future reference! : )

My blast has SE cams current xb head and the buell 984 piston stock pushrod. Compression is 120. Should I have went with xb pushrods? adjustable? Compression seems low to me.Thanks for any help!

That is low - near the bottom of acceptable, the XB and Blast pushrods are only a couple 1000s different in size - so that shouldn't be the problem. Where the piston rings sized properly? That would be my question and one of the most critical parts of a build.

Compression is super low. A good Blast can hit 175, with adequate about 140 psi. The XB should be hitting about 210psi max with a 175 minimum for good compression (my experience).
If the pushrods were causing that low of compression you'd probably hear a lot of noise. If you got them reversed (one is longer) then that may account for low compression, (too tight or too loose). But if you had them in the right spots that shouldnt make a difference.
Also the XB cams have a smaller 'base circe' than I think the SE cams have (as I think the SE are regular Sportster size like the Blast).
The stock lifter 9as EZ wrote) should have enough 'adjustment' to make up the difference in sizes.

Questions would be: How long since you did the top end? Stock size piston? Stock piston? New/used?

Lastly, imho, when going non stock top end its best to use the adjustable pushrods (and collapsible tubes) so if there is any kind of running problem you can easily check clearances. With the stock pushrod cover it means at least partial engine disassembly to check for tightness.

Do the oil test. Add 1/2 ounce of 30w oil to the cylinder and check the compression readings. If it doesnt change, then its valves or gaskets or cracks. If the compression goes up to normal, then its rings. And if that happens, thats where your compression should be.
