Hey all, haven't been around too much lately, but I've been looking into dropping the stock air box and installing a velocity stack and I was just curious if anyone knows were I could find a reasonable priced velocity stack. My google skills are either failing me, or there aren't many options for a 40mm CV Carb for less than $150. I've found 1 for a 2.5inch, CV carb for $50, so I'm not sure why the few 40mm stacks I've found are over $100.

Doh!! Thanks Gearheaderiko...should've searched around here a bit more. Any idea where I can get the filter. I've checked outerwears.com like EZ suggested on the form, but can not find the 12-2528 filter he recommends.

Well i finely found some one i can get some aluminum elbows from the size i needed.
I been saying for along time i was going to make another intake for the rearsets.
Well i took a ride an it's like it's not even there!
Please don't make the post into a classified add i'm just show what i'm doing.
This is my first one doing some r&d on it first i only order one elbow to make sure it was going to workout for me.
It turned out sweet!

does you knee hit is when you are stretched out on the passenger pegs?

Is there enough space to add a second elbow to put the filter behind the cylinder for rain protection?

it look nice!

Thanks for the comps!
Your knee hit on the passenger pegs but not bad this wasn't an option on my other intake it has your knee sticking way out there.
Getting the filter behind the cylinder would be a tuff one but K&N sells raincovers you can carry under your seat for when you need it.
Check out my light aluminum elbow to the heavy plastic pro series has a 2" inside diameter an mine has a 2 1/4"i.d.
In the 2nd pic you can see the flange on the pro series is 2 1/4" but then go's to 2" right after the flange.

That is awesome, Dan! Mind if I ask what your source is for the tubing? Is it local or online?

You might want a rain cover if you leave the bike siting outside while its raining. You dont really need one if all you're doing is riding in the rain. Your knee should do a pretty good job of blocking most of the rain anyway!

Thanks for the info, I believe I found an elbow joint that will work, and I've been looking at filters and was wondering if there are any benefits to flipping the elbow around the other way and putting one of those cone shaped filters on so that it is directly in the air stream when driving down the road? or would that just be too much air and make rejetting a royal pain?

Also, what would be a good starting point for rejetting with a setup like this? I'm currently running a D&D exhaust with the stock air box and with a 45 primary and 175 main. I know it may take some tweaking to get right but I am just looking for a recommendation for sizes to start from.

Ram air usually doesn't kick into usefulness until around 80 mph, and that would be extra stress on the intake support. Not really worth the Hassle on a Blast, been done - Force intakes and Euro CF versions of Force intakes have been put on Blasts, and rip goes the coupler when cruising at 75 to 80 - if your knee doesn't do it first - lol -

If you don't mind your knee sticking out it's going to be in the way turned forwards with rearsets or stock pegs.
That's why i did it like the pro series to get it out of the way.
An i'd just go up on the low side to a 48 that's what i run with my setup 175/48.

I put my new filter on that i'm going to be using for this setup.
It flows 50cfm more then my xstream top filter does that i had on there an it's longer an thinner tucks in alittle better.

Which filter is that? I was looking at picking up this guy: http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod= RU-2420 I'm guessing that's just the same round K&N filter on the 4" or 5" version?

Dummkauf what are you mounting it on that has a 3" i.d. on the flange an it's 5" outside diameter you would have to trim the tank cover to make it fit.

I am picking up tall velocity stack from americansportsbike.com and a generic elbow intake with a 3" diameter along with a rubber coupler to attach the elbow to the velocity stack, and the filter would then get attached to the other end of the elbow.

I know you didn't want to turn this into a classifieds ad, but, here's what I have on order so far:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BPUTPU/ref=ox _ya_oh_product

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008G5G4G/ref=ox _ya_oh_product

And now I'm just looking for a filter to attach to it.

Should hopefully look similar to this when I'm done:
http://www.buellforums.com/forum/attachment.php?at tachmentid=770&d=1234053517

I am looking for a K&N, as opposed to the spectre in that pic, since I'm running K&N's in all my other vehicles, and I have a friend that works at NAPA who gets the filters about 50% off with the employee discount : )

That is Captain Davids - If you want the original write up on how to do that and parts, etc. Email me and I'll send you a link - though it looks like you found it - that is one heavy puppy though and you'll definitely need Dans coupler.

Thanks EZ, but as you guessed I found the article, which was what turned me on to that elbow.

The shipping weight is 5.6 ounces, is that really that heavy for something like this? I wasn't thinking that was much at all, though I am still going to implement the spring hookup you mentioned somewhere else on this forum for a little extra support.

Now I just need to find a filter, which hasn't been ordered yet, and since it just snowed here my Blast isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so I have time to hook up the elbow and do some measurements prior to getting the filter.

Oh, and one more ?

"Dan's coupler", would that be the same spectre coupler I linked to above or is that a replacement for "das boot!"

"Dan's coupler is the replacement for "das boot!"
AKA: SuperBoot is my clamp! That spectre is not going to work to replace the das boot.

Thanks Thumpe, I may be bugging you for a super boot in a couple weeks. Right now I want to get the stack and elbow hooked up before I start ordering anymore parts so I need to wait for them to show up first. Plus it just started snowing and they are predicting more snow to come, so I'm not too worried about the bike being out of commission for a bit.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Ok, the americansportbike.com velocity stack is 3 3/8" in diameter, which means my 3" coupler won't fit. I've been searching the webs and so far all I can find are 3" and 3 1/2" couplers, neither of which will fit.

Anyone know where I can find a coupler and elbow that will fit this stack or is my only option left to just find a filter and attach it directly to the stack?
