if they did get the 883's
1. I would quit
2. they would have to add "how to pick up your bike" as a range exercise
3. Instructor hiring requirement would be added, you must be able to pick up 500 pounds!

When possible, I try to show a class how to pick up a bike properly when one goes down...if I can do it without embarassing anyone.

I've had to surgeries from picking up bikes the wrong way, one every 10 years or so.

Ain't gonna do it wrong again!

Rainman you must be teaching a whole lot of years! I always get help from the student who drops the bike. I used to pick them up myself but not anymore.
Do you teach with Sylvia I bump into her at the DC cycle world show every year. This year she was working for the Motor Maids. I saw her at the last local MSF Learning seminar in Maryland too.
Next year will be my 13th year teaching MSF and 10th year for Rider's Edge K

when I took my MSF course, here in Greenville SC, they taught us on the Honda Rebel and the price of the 3 day class was around $250.

I've been teaching since 2000 MSF and 2006 RE. I know Sylvia well! She's a hoot and a hell of a rider. Owns a souped-up Blast besides her SVO Road Glide.

My first surgery came from picking up a dropped 1200 Sporty on a run. My second came picking up a totaled MSF bike.

No more hernias!

Doing it the right way since! No pain, no pain is my motto.

Aleutian Back in the late 1990's the class cost $50.00 for the basic class and $25.00 for the ERC!
Rainman only pain I get is my poor feet! walking all day on hard pavement. Then I get home and once I get on the couch I can't get up! I'm stuck there! Hazards of teaching MC safety! K

I wish we still had Blasts in the Minnesota program. I truely believe that they are the best bikes we had. I can demo the U-turn "limited space maneuver... ex10) with tons of room to spare and never touch the clutch, throttle or rear brake. Just idle through. The only exercise it suffers in is the one where you go from second tho third, I think thats ex6. I used to let the blast riders use first and second. Oh ya and maybe it got scary in the quick stops, nothing like a stoppie to put the fear of buell into a new rider. Though the dual sports (TT250s and such) do it a lot worse! At first I hated them, one of the other ridercoaches I worked with liked them and he was a Kaw rider. He insisted they were the best handling bike he ever rode, I didn't understand how to ride them I guess. But I forced myself to use them when I demoed and grew to love them. LOL.. so much so that I bought most of the blasts we had when Comprehensive Safety Systems quit running BRCs.

Here's an idea - if each member of this board chip in like $100,000 we could probably buy the rights for the Blast and maybe xB away from HD, and then start our own company as a small corporation. To keep away from legal problems we'll call it Bee-Yule or something. With our two bikes the BL45T and the EXBEE. Anybody else up for it? By the way, I'll need someone else to chip in about $98,000 of my money.

Good idea! Great minds think alike! Earlier, back when the cube first happened I had the same idea. The old Excelsior Henderson factory here in Minnesota is still sitting empty. Do you think Eric Buell could handle the commute to Belle Plaine MN? (yup thats how it's spelled)
I can't halp ya with the 98,000 I'll need help myself with the whole 100,000.00. Maybe instead of a few of us we should plan on a lot of us. Think we could get a million guys to all throw in a buck or two?

A million - huh - but I bet you could find a 100,000 or so willing to pop 10 or 20 or even a bit more - the trick would be arranging something like that to be taken seriously - the campaigning for something like that would be powerfully difficult - unless of course it was a Jerry Lewis style Telethon, to build the Erik Buell wall of thanks - each donators name on it, with Erik's in the middle. - I dunno - couldn't be too hard, a brat packer did it - lol

Did not Britten build his bike on a 20K budget. The motor he built was all off the shelf car parts he only made the crank case castings and outer most parts(heads).
How did he get 170HP out of it?

The real art was the weight and CF, most of the engine was still his design using available parts, but his genius. On the other hand we are talking about building 10,000 bikes a year - a bit different, more capital needed for that, and proof of what I said - such a campaign would be difficult.

Still looking for a good deal on rear-sets. I would love the Crossroads, or the Banke but will settle for the home cut ones. Anyone planning to cut some of those? I can take the pattern and have multiples cut to keep the price down at the CNC fabricator, but don't want to be stuck with a bunch of them. Also any advice on not tapping a hole in the primary cover for shifter linkage will make me feel better on the DYI rear-sets.

Edward 4130: Still not enough time for me to cut some yet.
As far as drilling the primary, I think I understand your concern; If you drill to deep, it can still be sealed and not leak. Someone I know has ripped his shifter out twice (by sliding the bike down the freeway), each time using a bigger bolt and retapping the case. Case is fine and it doesnt leak.
You can also use a reverse shifter for simplicity-no drilling,tapping or linkage- but you'll need to get used to reverse shifting (1 up,4 down).

You can use the later X1(tuber) linkage but you'll need to get the mounting bracket and I'm not sure it fits the Blast case. Or you can get some old style tuber linkage which means special drilling of you mounting plates. Or make your own mounting plate.

But the XB linkage is easier to find, cheaper and shifts really well.

Also read the "rearsets" section for other options and instructions.

Got into Wisconsin just before dark. Rode to the Italian resturant that was supposed to be the meeting place, no Buells, rode to Gus's, no Buells. Stopped and had a couple of Chicago Style coneys. Then rode to the factory for a couple of pictures. Rode back to the Italian Resturant and finally...other Buells!
Now the first Buell that catches my eye is a Blast, not just any Blast but one with an XB wheel up front and an XB swing arm and wheel on the back! Of course I steop on over and start pumping the guy, who just rode in from Minnesota about.
Here is some info I gathered:
Front XB wheel and brake on stock Blast forks and axle, just made up caliper mounting bracket that bolted to the mounting holes for the stock set up.
Rear swingaarm bolts right up. Flat steel was welded to the back bone after removing the stock seat support metal, incorporating a new seat support using a Yamaha seat. A CR1125 rear sprocket was used, a 125 tooth big belt was used and the front sprocket was widened.

Now the kicker.......

it is fuel injected using stock XB 9 fueling system!

Swampy, the XB wheeled Blast has had pics posted on here, buellforum, and buelletinboard. I think he calls it superblastard. There is even a video on youtube.

Can you fin out how much higher he raised the upper shock mount compated to OEM? i am thinking about doing the same thing but with the OEM tail section and maybe a microsquirt EFI controller.
