ylwblast03: All you need to change is valve springs if you want more rpms out of your valvetrain. B50 or ProSeries cams are the only cams that will work with the stock valve guide clearance. Stock lifters are reported good to 7500rpm and anything beyond that will require better cams than the B50's.
Of course you'll need to get a new ignition module.
There are also cheap and expensive ways to go about what you want to accomplish (and are covered at length elsewhere on Badweb, fwiw).

Thanks all, I'm loving the Blast so far & find myself itching to ride it when I get home from work, it's so much fun (but you already know this).

I'm looking forward to modding the bike and bouncing some questions of you guys, definitely glad I stumbled on this site; crackhead already saved me a few bucks on some new tires, right on.

...and thank you Kirby, your post made my g/f blush, haha

See Mxa, there's your problem. You are waiting till you get HOME to ride. If you rode to and from work as well, the addiction would be that much more soothed, hehe.

LoL, and you can tell her shes welcome, I was just stating fact anyways

--EDIT: Ugh, last time I procrastinate hitting the post button. I'm at work and minimize as the boss strolls by, so of course I'm beat to the punch by Rainman.

baby steps, my friends, baby steps...

but you're right, it'd be awesome to ride to work (weather permitting). it's a 30 mile trek, mostly highway though. i'm scheduled for the motorcycle safety class next week, pretty pumped for that, and should get my license afterwards. I only have a permit as of yet, and in PA you're restricted to ride in daylight only...

Gr, same law in ND. WTF, I mean really, I can understand not being allowed a passenger with a permit due to lack of experience, but riding after dark? We do that just fine in our cars, and I coulda sworn that's why they put headlights on motorcycles, but maybe it's just me.

Good luck with the safety course. Great idea! Since you are in the same vicinity as I am, feel free to hit me up for help or advice with any mods. Or we can just go for a ride or something.

I rode to work for about two weeks (12 miles round trip a day) and checked the oil and it stayed the same level. Then on Sunday, I went for a 40 mile ride and checked the oil today and it was just a guarter of an inch on the stick. Is there a reason my oil consumption would vary.

As everyone knows winter is just around the bend. For alot of us in the northern states, that means hanging up the gear and storing our beloved two-wheelers. This year though, I had a different idea. I love my Blast, but it hasn't been getting the love it used to since buying my XB. I have major plans for the XB this winter and a few odds and ends on the Blast, but considering that it's about time for new tires anyways, I was thinking something along the lines of this -

http://www.aerostich.com/a-to-b-utilities/tire-stu ds/self-tapping-carbide-tire-studs.html

My girlfriend's family has a big cabin on a lake about a half hour from where I live, and while it's a year round cabin as alot of them are, nobody in her family or really the rest of the lake is there in the winter. Is it just me, or would it be a blast (sorry ) to thump around the lake all winter. Any thoughts or opinions would be great, as my mouse is hovering over "Add to Cart"

LoL, why thank you ya Crackhead. It's sorta the studs job to try and prevent that from happening. Ive crashed the Blast alot harder and faster than I will (not) on the ice, PLUS, I'll have the added benefit of being dressed like the Michelin Man . Studded ice riding is just something I've always wanted to try, and right now I actually have the ability and resources to maybe do it for real.

Has anyone else ever ice-raced? I have a general idea of it all, but any tips or pointers would be much appreciated!

I'm not really sure where to post this or how, but I own a 2003 buell blast and took the main jet out of the carburetor including the female piece that the main jet screws into. When I pulled that out of the carb another tiny metal piece came with it, but it came out too fast for me to see which side was up because of how I had to get it out...

Long story short, this little piece goes in before the female piece and the main jet go in, but my question is... Does the longer part on the little piece go in first or does the smaller part on it. I realize this is a little vague, but it goes in both ways and I can only assume there has to be a 'legit' way to put it back in. Instead of assembling it and testing it only to find out it's in backwards would be a pain and i would like to avoid that if necessary.

Any thoughts or would I need a pic?

Indy - in all honesty - I'm still braking her in - she is a dedicated weekend toy. I would not be foolish enough to ride her to work, and leave in a public parking lot, even if lot security is only a 100 yards away - half the time they aren't there. In a blue moon maybe, but not while so shiny new. By the weekends end though I will have a report.

Mike 2587: Welcome!
I know the piece you write about and I took apart a carb just to find out which way it went for somebody else here. They never posted the answer and I didnt think to post it for them either: ( It is common to fall out, maybe those recent to have it happen remember.
I still wont be near any Blast parts, manuals etc. until Tuesday, so if you can wait until then........

KustomKlassix: Post your question over at the twin racing threads. You'll get a better response there (if any). I have seen posts by ex ice rider/racers, but I dont remember who they are.

I Want to remember today - 9/11 - today is a day remembered that America found their brothers standing beside them, there was no doubt, and a common enemy raised its deadly head. To this very second my soul still cries out for justice - unfulfilled. I shall not forget! That moment defined us, and showed our inner strength in dealing with adversity. I hope we never forget what we found that day, and the innocence lost in the finding. The heart of America, our brotherhood needs to remember that day - a day where brothers and sisters where lost, and finally found.

Actually - look in the parts manual and do the opposite - we both discovered that that was the case. The hand drawn pic shows short side up, and it should be long side up. It will only fully install one way as well.

Howdy guys,

Buddy of mine has a 2001 Blast for his kids. About 2,500 miles on it and it starts running poorly, crappy, then not at all. Turns out part of a valve broke off and got nailed by the piston, or something like that.

The bike had run well for years with no problem. Any idea what would cause a valve to go?

Over revving the motor, the rev limiter only works on the way up, not if you downshift to a really low gear while going fast.

Now if it was just a piece of valve, it might have run too hot, like a intake boot, or too lean a fuel mixture.

I was able to drain the gas out of my tank, not very easily thought. But when I shake the tank I hear some clanging noise and I'm not sure what it is... Would there be anything inside the tank that would be making noise when I shook it short of the gas itself?

Mine does the same thing, when I lean it over on the kick stand I can hear something roll to the side. Only thing I can think of is maybe it's bubbles coming out of the straws?
