A note on torque and loctite: If you torque it to the correct torque, yet you neglect the loctite, it doesn't count for very long. Any questions? | ||

Hey Michigan thumpers, I saw a red Blast ride through town like a week or so ago with another bike. Wondering if it was any of you lurking around Manchester without giving a shout out.  That was the first Blast I've seen out on the mean streets of SE Michigan. | ||

What I read once was that red is if you probably won't remove it again, and blue is if you know you'll remove it again. That front bolt I replaced is sticking out about 1/2 an inch, and my rocker cover is starting to leak oil. I'm debating between just tightening and waiting for winter, or pulling things apart now. | ||

Loctite is in 3 basic formulas (for our use). Blue, red & green. Blue:low strength. Red: medium strength. Green: High strength. Or it could even listed be low torque, medium torque or high torque as a guide. Green is the stuff you use if your never going to take it apart (bearing or other sleeves is a common app). Loctite has many different formulas for a wide variety of applications, but blue and red is what we use. | ||

Not sure where on this section of the board to post this... As many of you remember I had to rebuild the carb on my niece's Blast due to the previous owner letting it rot in his shed for three years with fuel in it. Got the thing running, seemed to work fine here. But she complained that it would die quite a bit. I decided I should probably look at it again. Besides, I had a order a throttle control cable since while adjusting the original one, it fell apart in my hands (the plastic part). I disassembled the throttle housing pulled the cable off, pulled the carb off, and while taking the carb apart, somehow, somewhere lost the spring. How you loose a part that big in a garage is beyond me. I'm sure now that I've ordered a new one, I'll find it. But since it had been a few days between parts, and the service manual is useless in this area, I'm hoping somebody can refresh my memory. What positions do the cables go on in both the throttle housing and on the carb? I know I don't have them set right because there is way too much slack in one of the cables that I can't get out and I know I must have the throttle in the wrong position. I really find it hard to believe the manual doesn't have this listed. I even looked in my Uly service manual since the throttle is similar to see if I could see if I've got the cables routed correctly inside the housing. I figure worst case, I'll pull apart my Uly tonight and see how they routed those cables. I'm sure if I can find a picture, I'll be able to get things set correctly again. She died at just under 3,000.... Another badweather biker, Xb12mel, thankfully stopped and helped me push it to a parking lot. So it starts and idles fine. I can give it a very small bit of throttle but anything more than that and it dies. Gas tank was low and I refilled but it had the same issue. The oil lamp was not on. I'm going to do an oil change this weekend anyway, but if anyone has any ideas, please throw them my way! Thanks!!!! | ||

It sounds like you were riding it when it happens, so I would guess it's a carb issue. If it dies when you give it gas in neutral, that would be another sign. I would check the diaphragm in the top of the carb. It's listed as a vacuum piston in the service manual. Another possibility would be the neutral safety switch. Darisb, I was riding when it died. It was acting up a smidge but I thought it was due to the low gas so I switched it to reserve. Got a few hundred feet from the stop light and it died. I just went out to check on it and it idles rough. Kickstand was down and bike was in neutral and by giving it some gas it died. Just hit 3,000 - in fact it's at 3,002 now. I'll have to read up on the manual and figure where the parts are  (Message edited by felicita on August 19, 2009) | ||

So looks like I need to eat some crow (or however that saying goes). He was unable to drain the gas (the fuel hose wasn't moving) so he put new gas in the tank. 10 minutes later and I had it up in gear. Felicita, Great to hear from you and you're still Blastin! I'm not sure I understand exactly what happened, but this is what happened to me: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/401589.html#POST1306195 I never did figure out what was wrong (and I've swapped gas tanks and petcocks), but it acts normal now  If its the same problem I wouldnt run it to reserve anymore, for a while! | ||

Hey Erik! I am still riding the Blast but on the other side of the country (VA). Your bike started right up with no issue after you filled it up? I may have been the issue. I had a friend take me home and grabbed a gas can with gas already in it. Well, apparently it was VERY old gas. We ended up putting almost 2 gallons in it and ~10 minutes of trying to get the new gas through the line. Learned a lesson. | ||

Yep! Once I got it pushed to the gas station it took 2 gallons and started right up. I've since run it to 50 miles past reserve without a problem. Doesnt make any sense, but I'm not the only one who has had this problem. | ||
