Txkblast: Sorry you're getting in a little late in the game. There are literally hundreds of posts on this.
The Blast is now the bike formally known as Buell. Buell no longer claims the Blast, but it will still be made for the Riders Edge programs and (allegedly-though I've heard otherwise) will be available for purchase by the general public. It will not be badged as a Buell.

I still haven't heard whether parts will only be available at Buell/HD dealers, Buell/HD dealers that sponsor Riders Edge or (hopefully) all HD dealers since Buell no longer claims the Blast, but they are still being made.

Roysbuell: I think there are better ways to go than JB Weld and its not going to earn you any points when/if you go to sell it.
Zip ties, safety wire or a stiffening bracket would probably be better.
There may be other options too.

update on the jardine rt-one quiet module insert: after a ride today i was curious as to how it was held in place and noticed that it's held in place on one side only by an allen screw and there's an o-ring in there that supposedly heats up and makes the whole thing expand enough to attenuate sound. however, it's possible to install the qmi off kilter, or not completely parallel to the opening of the tip, making one side slightly higher than the other. i think that was causing the weird humming noise. also, for fun i took the QMI out and revved the bike. it's noticeably quieter with the QMI in, but i wouldn't say that it's worth the 30 bucks i paid for it.

on an unrelated note, i was blaspheming EB by waving to another motorcyclist as he was merging onto the same interstate i was riding on. he waved back. then he shifted gears and left me in his kawasaki zx14 dust.

seriously. if there were a cash for clunkers program for bikes, he might just qualify based on a sliding scale.

Check out my new favorite road sign. I've found 2 of these scenic drives within 15 miles of my house. I'm on the hunt for more!

The Blast LOVES this road. Apparently it's very scenic. I wouldn't know though, too busy watching the road.

Heading out to the burbs to get a dealer to replace the rocker box gasket today. I barely have the tools and no space to work on it so I have to pay for it to get done. Really tired of it spitting out oil on every ride.

When that road becomes a part of you, where you know every twist, turn, and dip - thats when the fun starts, and it is also when the scenery will really start to stand out. In the meantime - just enjoy the ride!

once I get my new speed sensor I am going to be making a ride out your way. I have a mapped ride through irish hills and back downriver. Probably next weekend if weather works out. If you want I can keep you updated on it.

Going on a mini vacation - today through sunday I'll be soaking in some hot springs and reading a book, and thinking about motorcycles, and my next buy, and what upgrades to Vader I can afford - have to contact a machinist and get a price on back cutting the gears, Baker drum, new shift forks, bearings, should I replace the main bearings as well, then I would have to buy a press, but then I would upgrade to ceramic, lighten the flywheel a bit - allowing it to rev a bit faster - probably I'll buy the press - they are not that much.

Yow, that's too much thinking. I think I'll think about riding....

Just got back from a 70-mile one-way trip into the Virginia sticks to interview some folks and the 70-mile trip back to the office. The Blast keeps running better and better with every mile.

Jugallo,
Yeah, keep me posted. Next weekend is pretty much my last free weekend before I go back to school and a good ride would help me stay positive. I just rode through the Irish Hills a few days ago. It was nice. It's a mess out there this weekend because of the nascar race in Brooklyn. The roads are jammed with about a million RV's but next weekend should be good if the weather is nice.

Let me know which way you're coming, and we can meet somewhere. Let's posse up and REPRESENT! Any other locals interested?

I am gonna post up in the storm fronts and see if I can get the other local buellers on the ride to. Might have some cruisers along also. I will check the map tonight. Its a route that I found on madmaps that I received a few years ago from the motorcycle show. Looks like its about 188 miles round trip that they have plotted.

My header bolts came loose, what are torque specs? Should I use anti-seize, locktite or plain and dry?

6 ftlbs - 8 ftlbs
Torque lower nut first (after snugging both nuts up).

Best case scenario (imho).
Replace the nuts with Nylock nuts.
Use anti-seize on the inner threads, leaving the last few threads (3/16") bare (the part that will extend through the nut).
Apply red loctite to the nut threads closest to the nylock plastic part. Or you can even put red Loctite on the threads after you have torqued the nut down.

*If in doubt, dont use the red Loctite and DO NOT use the red loctite on the whole stud.
*Anti-seize without the use of any locknut may hasten it backing off.
*Do Not overtorque.

My post is gone!

Anyways.....
Check your wiring to the oil sender. Check the oil sender itself, it operates at very low pressure, so its possible that the sending unit is bad, but.....don't discount an oilpump drive gear that is giving up the gears. Get an oil pressure gauge and check what the pressure is when the light comes on.

Original post:Posted by Swampy on Saturday, August 15, 2009 - 10:45 pm:

Check your wires to the sender. Make sure the sender is healthy, like
a good connection and the terminal stud isn't loose in the sender.

CHECK your oil pressure!

Get a mechanical gauge of some sort and plumb it in and find out if
the pressure is actually going down to the point of triggering the
sending unit. Ooor.... you could just remove the oil pump and check
the oil pump drive gear on the crankshaft. I had an oil pump drive
gear go bad on the Big Kids Blast....that was a 2001 also...

I do not know why several posts have disappeared, but there's the original

OK thanks Swampy, I think one of my posts disappeared the other day too. I couldn't remember if I hit the "post message" button, lol. I think I'll check the wiring first cause a few days ago I swapped to a different tail light and in the middle of re-wiring the tail and blinkers I turned on the on switch without the light's plugged into the wire harness connector. It blew the speedo system fuse, after that I think is when it started acting up.
