The book he's talking about is the "Book of Buell" accessible through the front page of the Buell website.

I've been infatuated with Buells since before I even thought about riding my own bike,(funny grammar but oh well, I am french canadian)
I was so freaking proud when I got my Blast its hard to describe... was already picturing myself on a hero blue XB9 maybe next summer...
now I think I've read enough disrespectful material coming from Buell that I'm done.

Like I said before the ONLY brand I've been loyal too is Jeep and looks like I wont be adding Buell to my list.

so since I am not enough of a rider, I am only planning on sitting on my bikes for the next couple of decades, which makes me unworthy of owning a Buell, I'll see if maybe Triumph is interested in my money...

OK I just read the book of Buell... Whoever wrote that is a F'n Di*do. P.S. when I wave to someone and they don't wave back, It's because they think they're too special. I always wave early, so that way if they don't reciprocate they get the finger. I really don't like the no friends attitude Buell has all the sudden, and that new pegasus looks like it should be silk screened on someone's flag football jersey. It's sad, I really like those XB9's. The bike I saw that made me really want to ride was an XB9, Buell the company is really turning me off to their bikes...

Hmmm, The Book of Buell. That was an interesting read. Where to begin? First of all I think it's safe to say that we all think Buells are sweet bikes. However, many of us, myself included, didn't want to begin riding with a balls to the walls, this is too much bike for me but I won't admit it, motorcycle. Even though I'm a new rider, I've always admired Buells. But if not for the Blast, my first bike would have certainly been something of the asian persuasion. If that had been the case, would I have eventually moved into one of EB's ruthless Buells? I don't know.

Second, I understand where he's coming from. He wants to build killer bikes and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. It's just that this new ad campaign seems to be alienating new sportbike enthusiasts rather than cultivating them. Wouldn't it be smart to welcome new riders (aka new customers) to the Buell family in a less "ruthless" way?

But, alas, I'm no engineer or marketing exec, just a humble science teacher. So ask me something about minerals and I'll get back to you when I'm done THUMPIN' BOYEE!

PS: The highlight of my first day on my Blast was giving the low left hand motorcycle wave to other bikers. Hondas, Harleys, whatever. If it's on two wheels then they're feeling what I'm feeling. If they choose not to reciprocate, then it's back to the grips.

PSS: 150 miles on day one! I'm hooked! I can't stop! Help me! And by "help me" I mean I need gas money for my new habit. LOL

Garlic, why you gotta play me like that? I already got the Pegasus tatooed on my calf cause I ride STRAIGHT SPORTSBIKE HP on my 1125 cafe racer.

Blastronomer, you need to hustle your students for your gas money. Usually takes me right around 5 - 6 bucks to fill up at 1.8 - 1.9 gallons (main tank only) with premium here in Chicago.

Your new exercise program next year can be: take money away from the kids that are getting just a little pudgy and use it to fill up your Blast. Win-Win situation: you get to keep thumping, and they get to lose weight. A lot of my good friends are teachers who don't have the luxury of working for the albatross known as Chicago Public Schools, so I feel the pain on the gas part.

BOB is just so much bs - lol - I ride the bikes, not brand hype, or bloated ego ramblings, I still like the bikes, but this marketing strategy sucks, I'm an accountant for 3 successful advertising firms, with multiple offices through the States - our artist could have come up with better slants than that drivel - some one got paid way too much - obviously - phew - talk about stinking up the joint - an insult to advertising agencies everywhere.

Andy,
This is a total noob question but you mentioned "main tank only". Can you explain? And you also mentioned premium. Do you really put premium in the Blast?

...He wants to build killer bikes ...

Heh, t-boning a Honda Civic while on my XB9S could have made the Buell a "killer" bike! After an accident like that I usually read the quoted line above with an alternate meaning.

Time for me to read the post "book" of Buell.

You really want the blind leading the blind, Blastronomer? ;o) Look on the left hand side of your bike, and there's a valve that says "on", "off", and "reserve." "On" = main tank and it holds somewhere around 2 gallons if you fill it up to the lip of where the top of the gas tank is. "Reserve" holds .8 gallons.

Yup, I use premium. Didn't start out using it, but my bike was a Rider's Edge bike so there was some gunk buildup in the carb that went away after 2 full tanks of premium and about 4 - 6 ounces of STP fuel additive cleaner in those 2 tanks.

Just a personal preference though. I like to tell myself I get better mileage, but in reality, I get maybe 3 - 4 mpg more. Perfectly safe to use regular fuel in the tank. Most gas these days has been reformulated to burn cleaner while helping engine deposits (if used over time, of course), so you should be good.

I'm familiar with the fuel supply valve. I used it today when I ran out of gas. LOL Rookie mistake. But are you saying that you literally turn the valve from ON to RESERVE while filling up? I must be misreading.

Use premium fuel in it, the difference in price is not worth the chance of detonation which can ruin your engine very quickly.

The fuel tank is only one tank. When the fuel selector is in the "On" position, it is connected to a straw type of arrangement that will only use the top 1.2-1.5 gallons of fuel(I'm guessing on the size) When the selector is on the "RES" reserve position it will draw fuel from the bottom of the tank and use the remainder of the fuel inside the tank.

You can fill it up with the valve at reserve, you'll just fill it up to 2.8 gallons if totally dry instead of 2. After you fill it up, you'll want to turn the valve back to "on" so that the reserve is still there in case you need it, like you did today. Does that make sense?

Swampy explained it much better than I did. Oh yes, now I see how I could have been confusing. Sorry, I didn't mean "main tank" as opposed to "reserve tank." Should have written, "tank portion that does not include reserve" earlier.

(Cross posted)I think they could see value in ads in so far as they are distancing themselves from all of the negative stereotypes of the Blast. Which also is, er...was Buell's last bike in production from the old era that has nothing 'cutting edge' to offer.

As much as I want to believe there is something else "in the works", I just don't see it as a reality. Buell obviously could give a rats a** about us is how I feel. EB dissed some of the fundamental reasons I like my bike. He might as well have come out and said "You are a total tool for owning a Blast. In fact it is not even a real Buell, which is why I'm not making them anymore. Dork." I can't really visualize anything that would book end this and make me think ,"I see why they did that."

It does seem as if Buell takes itself wayyyyy to seriously though. The 'Buell' characteristics they espouse in the BOB are exactly the opposite of every real person I have ridden Buells with.

Well, I'm glad we're all finally having some 'fun' with this now, but I'm sure in the weeks to come we'll regularly get people in here that we haven't heard from in a while saying WTF?

Sadly, the opinion of Buell and Buell motorcycles will be forever changed with some, but after its all said and done, we'll go back to being Blastards, riding, racing and modifying the Blast. It'll go back to being the little bike nobody respects, nobody really cares about and nobody pays any attention to. And when a new Blaster shows up here looking for help, we'll do what we've always done. We'll help them.

And to those that like to say 'get over it', htfu, etc. Well its our bike. We get to vent. Long after you've smugly gone on your way after telling us how we should feel, we'll still be riding the Blast, just like we have for 10 years. But instead of the tired old B-last jokes we've heard over and over for the last decade, there'll be a new batch of jokes, courtesy of EB and BMC. They'll get old too and we'll shrug them off like we've always done. Because in the spirit of the New Buell, we dont give a dam what you think.

So I was browsing through the 2010 lineup and noted that there are no "new" bikes for next year. There are a couple new colors and a cooling scoop added to one of last year's models.
"Ruthless Engineering"?!? You've had a year to come up with new colors and add a new scoop. (really burning the midnight oil over AutoCad on that one!) Seems more like "Listless Engineering" to me...

EB must've had his whole staff working on the 'dis-the-Blast' campaign and was too busy to actually build any new bikes. -This, despite the fact that they're importing the engines for their flagship "American Sportbikes" from Austria.
WTF?!

Again, good luck with the racing program. I hope it's not too late when they find out the difference between a 'hobby' and a 'business'.

Howdy folks..............

Just wanted to steer this talk away from the BS of "BOB and the "Cube" for a second and get back to why we are here, our bikes. : )

Check out my latest mod to the Blast.

I have TUNES!!!

I got the idea from seeing a fellow BadWeB'r use this same setup on his Firebolt so I figured I could use it on the Blast and it worked out perfectly.

Top view:

Side view:

Here is where I put the amp:

Here it is hooked up to the Ipod:

I had to move the relay out of the way to fit the amp next to the battery but not that big of a deal I suppose. The sound is pretty good and I can hear it fine at highway speeds.

Here's a video of the sound.

The amp & speakers are for marine use so they are completely waterproof. I ran the wires underneath the gastank so everything is hidden quite well. I ordered 2 of these units and it cost me ~$120 shipped. ($60 each)

I had to drill out a hole on each bracket so they fit where they are but that was the only mod I had to do to this setup.

Here's where I bought them from:
