Thanks Homies. My experience here on the Thumper Forum has been fantastic.

I bought the bike after a ton of research into the best first bike to buy. The Blast was the clear winner for what I wanted (even before I discovered the BadWeb). I'm not a black leather and chrome HD guy, I find the term "jap bike" pretty offensive (it's the 21st century people), but I'm not really a million RPM inline 4 sportbike guy either. I like simplicity, reliability, and fun. The uniqueness of the Blast really appeals to me as well. I wanted a reliable, easy to maintain, inexpensive and fun as hell bike to ride on my 60 mile round trip commute through Michigan farm country that would help me build my skills and gain confidence on a mc. I don't have to tell you guys that the Blast fits these requirements to a T. After reading the posts here I know you ride Blasts for the same reasons.

So, we bought the bike, I discovered the BadWeb and felt confident in my decision. Then I took the RE course, rode a Blast all weekend and felt even MORE confident. Then I logged on this morning, saw the posts and immediately went to Buell.com and saw the Blast crushing video and felt like the cool secret club I just joined shut down before I even learned the secret handshake. What a downer.

But, you guys are right. The bike is the same as it was last week and I shouldn't let all the hype get me worked up. I guess the secret club just got a little more exclusive.

Thanks again BadWebbers!!

I still feel the same way about my bike - I like it. My attitude about Buell though is under evaluation - I thought he was a lot smarter than this - I guess not.

Help 2001 P3 Blast 5600 Miles.
Problem: Surges while cruising (not under a load). While excellerating, no problem. I have a Denso IR plug (new), V&H pipe, rejet, just added a K&N air filter, don't know what the surging is caused by. Thanks for your input!

Welcome Frogbuster!

Do the simple stuff first, check your fuel tank vent, make sure you are getting a sufficient flow of fuel to the carb. What carburetor jetting are you using, stock? If it is stock jetting get a larger primary jet and main jet. I'm thinkin' 48 primary and 170 main.
If it is still "surging" like all of a sudden it feels like something gets tight, I would suspect the ignition module. The 2001 Blasts show a bit of a pattern failure.
Also, as a matter of housekeeping, there is the Thumper Forum Knowledge Vault that has covered this question, asked and answered many times over, so check there first and it will keep Gearheaderiko or Ezblast from moving it there.
But "we" are collectivly speaking, glad you posted instead of just lurking, and welcome to the madness!

For anyone else who feels like they just got kicked in the nads-you are not alone (especially Blastronomer-I cant imagine how that feels, Oh wait...I can).
Normally, there's quite a few of theses posts I'd pull (for language, etc.), but not today.
For a few (or many) of us it does feel like " I'm on Jerry Springer and I just found out that my girlfriend is really a man and that everyone knew it, and has been laughing behind my back" and we've been mocked on this site for doing so: ( Some of us have spent a lot of time and money not only on our own Blasts, but others Blasts and have spent time trying to sell others on "The Cube" and Buells in general. Yeah, we do take it personally when we're told "thanks for nothing". If anybody doesnt understand what we're saying (and many not at the Thumper side dont) we have fully expected the Blast to end for several years now, culminating with the end of production or a very serious update or redesign. Its just that it was done in an offensive manner. I dont see anywhere that hints "we're going to a make a significantly slower and smaller bike than the rest of our models, for those who want an entry level or small displacement sportbike". That doesnt seem to be in the marketing plan.
"Move up or move on" thats the message I get.

FWIW: I took that long ride sunday morning on (insert non-Buell motorcycle here). Throttle therapy, good stuff! Clears the mind.

I read on a thread somewhere that the Blast is still going to be produced for MY 2010 to support RE courses, but that the main "Buell" logo and badge will not be present. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Blastronomer, you mentioned that the graphic was different on the one you saw in the showroom - was there the complete absence of a Buell logo altogether?

Yup, Blast is still made for RE courses and you can still buy one on the showroom in some places. Just doesn't say Buell.

Still a great bike.

Buell has been sending out emails with the following in the text...

"SITTING IS NOT A SPORT. There is no World Champion of Sitting. No governing body to ensure that when two people try to out sit each other, they do it by the rules. Because sitting is not a sport. Unfortunately, most people who buy sportbikes do just that. They hit the starter button, raise the kickstand, gently release the clutch, and sit their asses off. There's nothing wrong with these people. They just bought the wrong bike.
Buell. Ruthless Engineering."

By Erik Buell's misguided thinking they should be selling no street bikes at all and only selling track bikes. No bike should be sport driven and pushed to it's limits on the street. Easily over 98% of all high-performance motorcycles are driven the way that Mr Buell criticizes Blast riders of driving and never see a minute of track time. Back up your statements, EB, and stop selling ANY motorcycles with turn signals, speedometers, headlights and license plate brackets. Only track bikes should be ridden the way you claim a real sport bike should be ridden. And when you do that, we will watch with amusement while your company goes bankrupt from it's sales drying up quicker than Paris Hilton's cooch when she finds out her date has no money.

While you are laughing at your crushed Blasts and lamenting the fact that you ever made them, I will be quietly debadging my P3 to make it unrecognizable as a Buell and lamenting the fact that Buell had anything to do with what I consider to be a fine, capable, sporting, single-cylinder motorbike.

Hey Erik... F-you.

Who's got Thump? I DO!!!!! Here's a short summary of my day.

1. Woke up early (too excited to stay in bed any longer)
2. Went to Secretary of State office and passed the written test (100% BTW)
3. Drove to American HD in Ann Arbor
4. Informed the sales staff and manager of the Blast crushing video (they were totally unaware and shocked)
5. Checked out the 2010 Blast in the showroom (andychang: the tank and flyscreen now say Blast only, no Buell)
6. Took possession of my 2009 Blast
7. Rode 106 miles on that mother!!! Hell yes!

My mood has just improved dramatically. My face hurts from the stupid grin that's plastered across it. In fact, I'm so happy right now I don't give damn what EB did. If my rear end didn't hurt so bad right now I'd still be riding.

THUMP ON BLASTARDS!!

Do you think Erik had this reaction in mind when "crush the BaLlAST" was hatched?

Do we know all there is to know right now or is the (b)last part of the 2010 lineup going to be announced later?

LAUGH! Since I only have 13 machines, with almost a 50/50 split- 20yrs older/newer- I see no concern about my BLAST or my 1125R. I recommend y'all just need to ride more and inter-web less. I'm going to ride. Blastronomer has the idea- GO!

I don't give a crap about him crushing Blasts. I love mine and will continue to ride the hell out of it as I do now. The insult to Blast owners is in acting like it was an embarrassment to have made it. We all expected it to be retired eventually and all of us were hoping that he would redo it into a bike that was even more capable and moddable than the original.

Who designed the Blast? Erik of course. Who is to blame if it was a lame bike? Erik of course. For next to no extra cost in design and manufacture he could have done things to it that would have allowed it to be upgraded/modded a lot more readily and allowed it to fit into his idea of a sport bike.

Those who have owned a Blast and who know how to ride a bike are aware of just how great handling a bike it is. A capable rider on a stock blast can embarrass most sport bike riders on their 600cc-1100cc bikes. I have no problem keeping up with my buddy on his GSXR1000 on back roads with my slightly modified Blast. In a straight line he would annihilate me but toss in a few curves and his advantage is gone. Many of the Blasters on this board have embarrassed riders on their 600's - 600's that would embarrass guys from this site that run XB9's and XB12's. Is the Blast the most sporting bike Buell makes? Hell no! It's the LEAST sporting but it IS sporting! It's this that makes the way he canned the Blast so offensive, not the crushing, but the way it was dismissed as a mistake that never should have carried the name of Buell.

Now that the Blast is gone you XB9 riders are now gonna be the whipping boys around here. Welcome to low man status, you piss-ant wanna-be's! Why don't you get a real Buell??
