The transmission takes 1 quart. They must however give you a fill line reference point (like if you have a leaky trans), so thats what the book gives you. But it takes 1 quart, exactly, as long as you fully drain it. I tested this out when Swampy (I think, years ago) originally posted this and I rechecked it a couple months ago. Takes one quart! The level is also checked with the bike standing straight up.
It can take a long time to fill though (since it hasnt a way to vent as you fill through the vent hole-though it can vent through the clutch cable). Your choice- wait or wrestle the Y-frame!}

PS on trans fluid: If it doesnt say synthetic on the bottle, it had better say XL/Sportster/Buell or Sportrans transmission fluid. If it doesnt say synthetic, make sure its the right stuff.

I'm running the superbike bars and like them, but still really wanting the rear-sets to get the final fit, but can't part with 500 bones to get it done. Does anyone have any photos of a Blast with Clubman bars? I curious if they look good/ ride well. Also needing a chrome bezel for a headlamp if anyone has one around they will sell and ship me.

-Edward.

Concur on the safety switches! Clutch and kickstand.

Any 7" headlight should work. Its a fairly standard size and J & P Cycles carries one that should fit. The Tourmaster TB 17 tank bag should fit nicely. I have an older model which is slightly bigger and just fits.

Swampy,
Well hell, Hell's not far at all! I imagine it's a real nice ride from here to Hell and back. Ha!

Blastronomer: USE YOUR HORN! They'll teach you many things in the MSF course, but do not be afraid to use your horn. You are invisible and never, ever assume they can or do see you. They will look right through you. Better to risk a finger thrown at you, than to have them use that same finger to dial for your ambulance (if they even stick around). Seriously.

As far as the Blast-just ride it! We all have varied opinions, but its yours that counts. Ride it and see how it feels. We can then help you assess what might work better for you.

PS Welcome!

Check the photo section for Blasts with Clubmans. They are a very radical riding position, but look cool!

I tried the Dennis Kirk front isolator - made by Drag Race Specialties (DK p/n H14-462). It isn't a drop-in fit. The (stock) bolt that runs through the center of the mount is too small for this isolator. I needed the bike back together and running to get to work tomorrow, so here is what I did:

I took 2 aluminium cans (6 oz. Long Island Ice Tea), and cut them into strips 4.5mm wide, and the length of the can around. I coiled 3 of these around the screw, and slide them into the isolator. They fit tight with the bolt, and I was able to put the whole thing back together without any more difficulty. If I have any problems, I'll post about it. I paid $20 for the mount.

Or owners manuals? These p3's seem to be the same from year to year. I'm going to need one of each and I just wanted to know if it mattered much.

All Blasts and all factory owner manuals and repair manuals are virtually identical.

I'm running Supertech Synthetic 75W-90 in the tranny.
You guys are recommending using 20W-50 motor oil?
Wouldn't that be a little thin for the primary?

I'm running 75W-90, different brand, in my XB9S for over a year now and no problems.

Many of the haploid gear oils contain sulfur, and that slowly deteriorates the Stator wiring - got me once. Note 75-90 is equal in weight/viscosity to 15/50 or 20/50 engine oil. Many Buell riders use just 15/50 Mobil oil in their primary and engine.

You're probably fine, but you might want to check with the oil manufacturer. I've been using Redline 75w-90 synthetic for many years now.

Haploid? Hypoid? Man, I'm confused. If it smells like sulphur-dont use it!

I believe a haploid is a cell with a single set of unpaired chromosomes as compared to a diploid. Of course all I know about oil is that it's slippery.

You guys are cracking me up. I'm finally getting some time later tomorrow to take care of the rust problem on my pro-series exhaust. Picked up some sand paper, various spray cans with some ceramic glossy black coating. Will post pics when complete.

Not sure if any Blast people have missed this but you've got to check out what's going on in the "2010 Blast" thread on the quick board.
I'm speechless.

Wow! Great Ad! Thank you for cauterizing the wound and removing every remnant of my respect for the Buell organization!

I bet all the squids on liter bikes, who will never be caught dead on a Buell anyway, will think that ad is funny as hell.

Bizarre ad, I don't get it. Something is up, just not sure what. Maybe there is a 2010 Blast coming that is going to blow our minds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Honestly, the stock Blast isn't that great. The potential all of us have released by modding the hell out of our bikes is what makes the Blast a great bike. Maybe the factory is going to start building in the mods we all have done. If an all new Super Blast is coming, I'd be tempted to buy one.

If it is air-cooled (non-Rotax?) and fuel injected (a certainty) and not too weird looking (sorry, I don't like the 1125 look), I'll likely rejoin the Buell family. Does official news come out Saturday or Sunday?

Unfortunately, the ad appears to be real. It's appeared in both Rider and Cycle World and it's been pretty much confirmed as real. Apparently there's a new bike to replace the Blast, making our mounts worthy of ... compaction?

Glad there's a new bike. I can't afford squat in this economy so it really doesn't matter to me, personally. I am, however, already tired of the furniture jokes I'm getting on mine.
