Crank- I had a bad experience dragging a boot. My foot came off the peg in an S-curve because my boot dragged, nearly lost my balance and low sided and now I'm... not nervous, but maybe overly cautious.

Swampy - Thanks so much for meeting up with us. I'm sorta the loner type and love just being with Thumper (my husband) but once you get me talking about the Blast just try to shut me up. It's hard to try and hook up with people when you have a lot of miles to cover but I truly appreciate the info I get from this site and could not pass on the opportunity to say thanks in person when I found out how close Swampy lived to my kinfolk where we planned to hang our helmets for a day.

It was awesome to meet Swampy and "the Little Kid" and Swampy's better half. Very cool to have two Blasts and the Uly all lined up...HD - eat your heart out!

We are on our way to cross the "big bridge" at Mackinaw and then into Wisconsin and Minnesota and eventually back towards Florida.

Gotta love this bike, still preachin the Gospel that is Blasting...

Hi Magster, Swampy,

Sorry I couldn't make it. They changed by big bro's orders to Afgapakistan and I had to roll up a week early. Funny how they're sending 53-year-old nearly retired Navy reserve guys over now.

Lets see, I rode 1200 miles on a Buell Blast to see a '48 Tucker. Get to Gilmore Museum and guess what? It was NOT there. Out on tour they say. But no destination or classic car would ever be the only reason for a ride, it's the ride itself, so there is no sad ending to this tale. I still have a ton of miles in front of me and from what I hear, some very beautiful countryside to cover.

The Gilmore has more classic cars in one place than I think I have ever seen. Including a 1914 HD that Della Crewe and her dog Trouble rode from Waco, Texas to New York City in six months and 5,378 miles - making her the First Woman to successfully ride a motorcycle across the country.

I'm keeping my eye out for deer and other wild things...

btw - our new Scala Rider communicators are working very well so far as is the TomTom Rider - love the technology!

Happy Trails, will check in later, Mags

Hi Blasters,

Does anyone happen to know what the symptoms of a clogged pcv line would be?

Thanks,

Welcome Porkchop79

My favorite bar in Mackinaw City had a bartender named Porkchop.

Have you taken the slide cover off? That is the cover with the four screws that hold the slide diaphragm inplace. If you pinch the diaphragm, which is very easy to do, it will cause that symptom.

Did you get the needle in the correct spot?

Welcome Paralegalpete!

Thumper62:
What makes you think its clogged? Just suck and blow through it and see what happens. Its a fairly simple device which rarely goes bad. If its clogged crankcase pressure can build up and cause it to run poorly. In extreme cases it can cause the gaskets to leak (or worse). When in doubt, pull it out of the valve cover. Its not a high tech item.

Porkchop: Very unlikely its your TPS or auto enrichener. DONT mess with them. Besides some carb problems it could be a faulty safety switch. What would be more helpful would be to explain exactly how this problem came about. Did it start after any 'work' done? Did you make the problem worse? Is this the first time you've started it in a long time and now it has a problem?

PS: With this warm weather a Blast, if it will start, doesnt need the 'choke' to run.

Thumper62, they are a pretty simple item. The line does make a pretty sharp bend up on top of the rocker cover though, so it could kink and you wouldn't know it. BUT, even if it does kink, it shouldn't be 'airtight".
Symptoms of a kinked line would include Gearhead's list, as well as repeated blowing out of the PCV seal, and subsequent oil leakage around the blowout.
If I'm guessing correctly, you're looking at oil running off the top of the engine somewhere?? The line isn't kinked, the squirt-a-gasket stuff holding the PCV in place just gave out. Thoroughly clean it and reinstall with a good quality stuff.

also of note:
I've had to grit my #$%ing teeth and reroute the PCV venting to outside the airbox. It is a shlock mechanic fix, but I guess that's what this bike requires... -The new PCV did what the old one did.- I believe you've done this as well so just make sure your bend (above the rocker box) is not too sharp.

Alright fellas, i DID reroute my PCV, and i think the problem is that i put an in-line fuel filter as a means to keep contaminants from creaping(so to say) up into the bike during the first few sections of vacuum put on the line initially. So im thinking i will just go to a straight piece of hose from the pcv valve to the rear of the bike, thus, eliminating the fuel filter. I believe this is the root of my poor rides because i havnt checked but i didn't really "feel" any movement through the hose with my hand. So, im going to eliminate the filter and see how the ole' blast runs afterwards.

Thanks guys!

AND NOO EZ, lol, its not "DAS BOOT" i have checked it several times, it IS seated properly in the grooves and sealed correctly, in fact, upon inspection of the intake system, there is no noticable leak in the vacuum. But thinks for the reminders.
