Erik says if you pack it tightly it will quiet things down. That has been my experience, though I really thought at the time it would get louder. I just packed it tight for efficiency, being quiet was just a bonus. Its the most quiet exhaust I have heard besides stock (and it exits just under the tail where the license plate would be!).
no guarantee implied, results may vary, but it couldnt hurt!

"it exits just under the tail where the license plate would be!" Did you make a longer header? That's cool man, Do you have any pics of that? I didn't mean to speak for you about repacking the V&H I just haven't done it myself yet and I remember you mentioning it. I have a new gasket and ring in the mail (plus a VELOCITY STACK!) so I can take the whole unit off and drill out the screws that are stripped. I can't wait to repack that can. Do you think I'll notice the difference with the new packing? Performance wise I mean.

You can speak for me, others have and not in a nice way either!
Theoretically, repacking is supposed to increase performance (actually, more to the point, deteriorated packing decreases performance).

The picture's old, but the exhaust configuration is the same.

The V&H is bran-new. Can I get the packing at my Harley dealer. It's "really" loud. thanx Gear hate to keep bugging you. Also. like the spring support for the carb info from EZ. Would be curious to see how that is done.
Am I allowed to mention someone I got a great deal on tires from on here?

If the V & H is brand new there isnt much you can do (packing might help, but why take apart a brand new exhaust). I suppose you could pack it tighter, but in reality I think you're just not used to the noise. The V & H is fairly quiet (ask sycho how his V & H compares to my exhaust) its just that the noise is right below your ears. It takes some getting used too. Next to a Harley with moderately loud pipes, its almost impossible to hear the Blast!

Avoid buying anything at the dealer except genuine HD/Buell parts. They are bound to be expensive (not always, but usually). I'm 99.9% sure they wont have the packing.
My guess is your going to ditch the stock airbox? The info is here if you do a search for it. Its probably under the carb section, but learn to use the search. Its an invaluable tool and what I (and EZ) would do to get you the info (granted, we do know what we are looking for).

Mentioning a great deal on anything would be best to do in the appropriate thread. If a Badweb sponsor
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/17143.html
is likely to carry that item, then its not fair to them to mention your supplier.
When in doubt do it here or certainly in the Blastphemy section. We can delete it if necessary. (and to all) Remember, the custodians are not here to be kiljoys, but to help. We do have to remember who pays the bills though.

Erik, I think that exhaust setup looks pretty slick. It gives the BLAST a whole new look with all that clearance under it. What made you do it that way?

Just a note on the V&H repacking kit. I ordered it straight from V&H and total to order and ship to MD was about 17 bucks. Much cheaper and FASTER then going thru a dealership.

If you need the part number, I still have it.

The last two days riding, I noticed my neutral light coming on while I'm in 5th gear on the highway. It comes on gradually then is steady bright. Yesterday it was only in the morning, today it was both morning and afternoon.

It goes away once I shift down to first gear when I am off the highway and doesn't come on again unless I'm actually in neutral.

What would be the cause of this? And how can I fix it?

You would have to pop open the primary side and go deep into it, I'm about to do that for a similar problem.

Bonesdl1,
There are some threads about flickering neutral light, with pictures, in the Knowledge Vault.
What may be happening is you have a loose shift drum retaining bolt that is allowing you shift drum to move side to side in the crankcase causing the neutral light to flicker. The primary cover, crank nut and primary chain set has to come off to get to the shift drum retaining bolt, its the same bolt that acts as the piviot point for the shift arm.
While you are in the primary there are alot of no cost improvements that you need to do to improve the way your bike shifts and ward off some future problems that occur on our beloved Blasts.

Shopping list:
Primary gasket, primary inspection gasket, Adjuster o-ring, Drain o-ring, Shift-shaft Seal,Detent Plate, 2 Detent Clips, red locktite, Bottom Adjuster Shoe, 1qt Mobil 1 15/50.
While in there Chamfer edges of Stator Wire Protection plate to better protect wires. Inspect drum pin length for uniformity and gently, leaching red locktite at the base of the long pin(s)and gently tap back in to standard size - all should be the same length. Replace Detent plate and clip, do Shift Pawl adjustment, use the correct size drill-bit. Re-assemble per manual, do clutch adjustment first then do primary - going an extra 8 flats out, then when warm adjust by sound. I expect to find a loose nut and busted E clip/Detent Clip (they should make them out of Ti).

wow interesting bit of info ive discovered for myself.

bought an autolite plug from vato-zone... ive ran about 6 tanks of gas through it...

first three i was averaging 69mpg-71mpg

when i installed it i just threw it in without gapping it, coulnt find my gapper.

then i found my gapper and pulled the plug out to regap it, i went with a .40 gap, as thats what im used to running in my 86 GTi and has always given the best gas mileage.

im down to 60-61mpg now... DOH!!! after 3 tanks. i should have regapped after the first tank but i decided to order the race plug instead and try that one out, as autolites suck in the first place. (wish i could find a bosh that would work : ( )

so what are you guys gapping these things to for best mpg's? specifically the race plug

Gussie I'll let you know once I receive it which should be sometime next week. I'm not worried about it quieting down so much as getting rid of the tin toy sound it's making. But here is the info I have Part # 16105 SS2R FIBERGLASS REPACK KIT RET $9.00 Call to order with Customer Service 800-592-2529 VISA MC Discover.

Thanks EZ and Swampy, it sounds like this may be a fix that will either have to wait till later or I might be a bit out of my league on this repair. I have noticed that if I shift it down to 1st and back up again quickly it goes away and doesn't come on for the rest of my trip.

I think it's time I invest in either a hard copy or digital copy of the service manual.

EZ What is a flat that you refer to when making adjustments? I've never heard that term before.
