Wow. Its been a while since I started a thread in here. Anyways. I have a tail light issue. When I turn the bike on, the tail light doesn't light. But if I hit the brakes, the light does come on. When I release the brake, the light goes completely out again. Shouldn't it be on for night riding? Don't want someone to run up my bumper  I checked the wiring connections from the harness back to the light, and it looks good. Not sure where to check next. | ||

So there are two bulbs, or the bulb has two filaments? I thought that depressing the brake, just upped the voltage. | ||

Bulb has 2 filaments, however, it could just be a worn contact, thus time to change the bulb - vibration will do that. EZ | ||

Interesting..i lost my tail light at night....the next day i took it apart and reseated the bulb and all was good. Just as a backup, i drove over to Maroney's Harley and got a spare bulb. Being a harley dealer, they didnt have the 68169-90A .. they looked at my Blast Bulb and came out with the 68169-89A...they said it had an extra support to hold the filament...so the 68169-90A has 2 supports and the 68169-89A has 3. Im running with the 68169-89A now. | ||

68169-89A Doesnt come up as a good part number. (?) Its also a common 1157 light bulb available anywhere they sell auto light bulbs (which could include the local convenience store). If you need one, there isnt a necessity to go to the dealer to get a working tail light, only to get a heavy duty bulb. | ||

Ooops, my bad...its 68168-89A I misplaced the package and just found it....i could take a picture of it compared to the old one and post...its got an extra support in the middle of the filament to add strength i guess. ira | ||

I have the same issue as Indybuell. I found that it's just a loose cable or wire. With the ignition turned on, I decided to move some of the wires around under the tail. Low and behold, the running light came on. If I moved the wires around more, it would turn on and off. Eventually, I took some zip ties and tried to fix the wires in a position that it would keep contact. The zip tie solution works most of the time. I still notice the running light turned off every so often. One of these days, I need to take the taillight and harness apart to find the loose wire. Hope this helps. |
