OK - knowledge is what will make you faster, including knowledge of your motor - your next steps are yours - leave alone or investigate - its up to you.

So I was at work today and thought I'd post a random question. On average, what does everyone's insurance run on their Blast's? With 2 cars and 2 bikes now I was going over mine and found that a full-coverage for 6 months is only $38. Is this low or around what most of you pay? I think it's a mighty fine deal.

Insurance is something you can't just compare to someone else. Your record, number of vehicles, family status, kids, location, and amount of coverage all have factors in determine insurance rate. Just because Bob in Texas can get a bike insured for $200 a year doesn't mean Steve in NY will be able to get the same coverage for the same price.

I don't know if anybody tunes in at all, but week of June 10th the feature video is of a Buell blast rider who's been to Bonneville and ran 110 on gas.

Yeah - that Terry P. - my buddy who gave me that LSR header when he stepped up in CCs - awesome bike. Erik Buell rode that puppy around California for a week about 5 years ago - had a great time on it. Terry has every right to be proud of that Blast - it will embarrass twins consistently.

Very cool video. Any info on what frame he uses? I bet that thing looks sick without the fairings. I want a tail like that so bad, I found a site that sells cafe(bottom stopper)tails for older Sportsters. I wonder if it coul be modified to fit the stock frame, what do yall think? I'll post the link if anyone's interested.

Why do they always switch from the belt drive to a chain when racing Buells?

I would think it's for gear changes.

Stock frame - Terry replaced the rear section to also help lighten the bike (and makes it more aerodynamic) which comes in less than 300lbs fueled, reinforced the rear swing arm

The chain drive is specially geared to complement his Baker 6 speed tranny to help reach those top speeds. Terry really knows his stuff!

"why do they always switch from the belt drive to a chain when racing Buells?" Yes, for easier gearing changes. Sometimes because of power requirements and sometimes "thats just what you do to a race bike"LOL!

So, here I am with my 2001 Blast, thinking about its issues. I've had the rocker box gasket replaced, and after 6 years and 2 head removals, it's starting to leak again, ever so slightly. Once I put the correct bolt in, and removed and reinserted the same bolts 2 more times, contrary to the "do not reuse" instructions, it's doing fine. The original battery is still just fine. I've never had the boot fail, however, I did replace it once because it looked like it would be failing soon. I think I'm around 35K miles or so, and it's been unsupported for a while now. I do have my spare.

Why am I posting this? One reason is 2 double-shots of 95 proof rum, and another reason is because so many people only post when their Blasts are giving them grief. Mine has been so good to me, and aside from the first 2 warranty covered issues, I have had no real problems with it. It left me stranded twice. First time because I was seeing just how far I can go before I actually run out of gas, and the second time when the belt broke 70 miles after I should have replaced it.

Ok, I feel better.

My belt lasts about as long as my front tire. Both times it broke while I pushed it forward after it was parked. Funny how it survived hard throttling, only to break while I had the clutch pulled.
